Thu Aug 31, 2023 10:47 pm
- E-Rank Mission - All It Takes Is Dexterity:
- Mission Name: All it Takes is Dexterity
Rank: E
Mission Location: Universal
Challenges: N/A
Task: A notice has been stuck up on the mission board from a local who believes he is the greatest marksman in the world. Whether it is with throwing knives, bows, or shuriken. He believes that he can outshoot anyone who challenges him and has even put money down on it.
The rules are simple, you choose the projectile or thrown object, whether it be natural or improvised, and you choose the means on how to compete. The only requirements are that you must choose something that travels through the air from a person as the form of challenge, and they must reach a point which can be measured in some form. Whether this is through measured lines, sundials, or cat meows.
Please note: due to past attempts, the following is not allowed:
- Choosing the marksman as the object to be thrown
- Making the marksman wear a blindfold while the other person is competing
- Yelling "Look over there!" and pointing, then throwing while the marksman looks away
- Attempting to eat the marksman (That person is not allowed within a 100m radius of the marksman at this time)
Word Count Requirement: 500
Reward: 1,000 Ryo / 5 AP
Character Requirements:
Character Exclusive:
It was not long when she and Valeiru chanced upon a guy challenging anyone to try and best him as a marksman on the little rest stop by the road. He was hollering and jeering, pointing to a paper tacked onto a public board. ”Come on! Anyone? I’ll let you get the first shot for free - a gift from me! Hahaha!” The voice was somewhat deep, befitting a man of his size. Saya sighed and frowned. For some reason, his boastful attitude irked her and she was quite close to throwing in some ryo if only to shut him up.
”Feel like making a bit more on the side?” She asked her companion. Well, she asked but was already making a move to register her name and Valeiru’s to the list of challengers. All of the names were crossed out, she noticed. They all probably failed. It felt like she was cheating because of her previous days as a shinobi, but she remembered having to utilize her skills from time to time because other wanderers she had encountered had some training as well.
Seeing as this guy had beaten all of his opponents (and what an amount of people it was) Saya had an inkling that this guy used to be a shinobi and was making money off of his skills. Not that she could fault him for that; she just hated how loud he was being. ”We’ll take a shot at you.” She announced and picked out some dango sticks that had been piling up from a customer who seemed to enjoy watching the spectacle.
”You two?” The man eyed both of them, seeing their body frames and sizing them up. He clearly did not think much of their ability to throw things nor their aim. Shrugging and allowing both of them to stand behind him and making sure that they were quite the distance away from him for some reason (it was almost as if he was concerned that they might eat him or something), he made and completed the rounds. There were some bullseyes from him, but the rest of his attempts were all in the first ring around the center.
Saya nodded and did her turn, soundly trouncing the man’s record. Not all of her thrown projectiles were in the center but a majority of them were, and that was enough to say that she had outdone the man. She then looked towards Valeiru and expected the same result.

Valeiru looked between the man who was shouting in his deep booming voice and Saya as they were walking up towards the mans booth or tent. He watched as Saya wrote their names down and then tilted his head as he watched the man before him.. Boisterous and loud.. and cocky to a fault. He grinned as Saya began to throw and nodded slightly as he gave her three slow but genuine claps of encouragement. "Good Job Saya. Remind me when we get back home. Well. I should say when Arantima gets home to have him teach you a few things if you are interested.. He is a Weapon specialist."
Valeiru watched as the man angrily paid out Saya and then he turned to Valeiru.. Valeiru smiled warmly and instead of picking any standard weapons from the pile Valeiru instead takes out the Ryo from his own bet with the man and selects five coins. Valeiru gestures to the man to select five of his own and so they began. Vale would not fire his Coins straight like the marksman would instead he would throw his coins to bounce off of the Marksmans coins before landing on the target board.
The game was not so much one of beating the marksman at his own game but making the man fail worse than he himself did. If he had been Arantima he wouldnt need to play such a game but still he knew enough from his shared mind with Arantima that he could pull this much off at least. The Man Made Valeiru throw his last two coins before himself and when the MArksman found that the coins moved too fast for him to bank off of like Vlaeiru had been doing he Snarled and went about paying him as well.
Valeiru swung his pouch of ryo back and forth after the marksman had filled it some more and Valeiru walked over towards Saya "You did pretty well for yourself there.. You have some experience with these things it seems." He looked her up and down more than once with a soft squint to his eyes before shrugging and heading back towards the path. "We may yet find a use for you in Yugure Saya.. We may just yet find a use for you."

Valeiru’s compliment and a prospective learning opportunity sent a shiver down her spine. It was like traveling back in time, to the days when she thoroughly enjoyed challenging herself into acquiring new knowledge and skills. Saya instinctively perked up and returned his grin. It felt so good to throw a projectile and have it hit near her intended target. For a moment, she was happy.
”Really? He wouldn’t mind it?” Her voice was colored with hope and excitement. The thrill of an accomplishment surged through her, only to be frozen as she remembered - she was but a simple nomad. Attached to no singular country, no people, no friends. At this realization her expression drooped just a bit. It was hardly noticeable for those who hadn’t spent enough time with her. ”It’s okay if he doesn’t though. I’m not quite sure if I’ll want to bother him about it.”
Saya easily let the next few moments slide through. Valeiru was impressive, using coins as his choice of object to throw. It sailed through the air, interfering with his opponent’s own coins before ricocheting toward its intended mark. She couldn’t help herself. Saya’s hands clapped together enthusiastically, awed by the technique performed to outdo the “greatest marksman.”
The vainglorious man was red in the face. He had been thoroughly humiliated by the two of them. Saya could see the ill-intent in his eyes, the scenarios coursing through his mind right now. From the way his hand shook as he placed the reward money in Valeiru's hand and the way his jaw ticked as he tried to laugh off the loss. She caught his eye, raising a brow and tilting her head as if to ask, "Do you really think you want to do this? You've seen what we can do." The man coughed and backed away, tearing off the sheet from the board. Looks like he wouldn't be doing his business here for some time.
After they were paid handsomely for actually beating the man, Saya easily kept a public smile on her face as her companion neared her. ”A use for me?” She asked, curious now as she started to move in the direction of whichever Valeiru chose. ”Please don’t use me as a sacrifice for some kind of jutsu. I think I’d rather participate in some kind of survival tournament.” Giggle. It was a joke. But she was actually half-serious about it. Just because she enjoyed the latter half of their day together didn’t mean that her suspicions of them completely disappeared.

Valeiru Shook his head gently when Saya mentioned using her as a Sacrifice or for a jutsu. "No.. That wont be part of your future if we of Yugure have anything to say about that. You were accepted as a guest by Mizuki.. I want you to understand something about her. She is older than she looks or will let on. Her past has been filled with things she would rather not see any other person have to live through. What those things are are not for me to say, but why I am sharing this with you should be evident... You are safe at Yugure. None of us would dare lay a finger on you in harmful ways."
He chuckled as he watched the marksman rush off into the distance as he smirked and rubbed the back of his neck. He jutted his chin out back towards the road they still had to travel. His entire demeanor was one of mirth and genuine joy, as if that small interlude back towards the edge of Yugure. "He is someone who.. Comes naturally towards teaching, though few students meet his exuberance for such activities.. He is a man with few rules but those rules are adhered to as if to not do so would result in his immediate death, as if he were to stop breathing."
Valeiru looked at the road before and behind them both, then looking back to Saya, his senses penetrating her outer form and deep into the literal heart of her. His senses extending to her blood and how fast it flowed, if her heartbeat was faster or harder or steady. He walked gently, leisurely almost as his hands tucked in behind his back. His stride may be long, but he was not in any sort of hurry as he continued along, He closed his eyes and continued walking along, using his senses to guide him as his counterpart always did when he was alone.. Arantima would often use his ears over his eyes to move.. now so Would Vale.
