The missions that he had received  this time took him out to do small tasks all across the village, but  a request put in by a landlord…his landlord that apparently had some deadbeats that were taking up space in an apartment building…coincidentally he lived in the same place so he sighed and accepted the mission without much hassle as he knew that freeloaders were common when you have a village that accepts refugees almost each and every day.  The day was at least sunny, with the wind not too harsh so it was at least a desirable temperature, and that would be more beneficial to those he had to remove…he would have hated to have to do this on a day where it was freezing outside.  The apartment building was only five stories tall and Yamato lived in a corner apartment that was meant for a small family, doing this allowed him a bigger area to express his own individual freedom and to keep things his way and privately.  His apartment was on the fifth floor, and the target of eviction was Apartment 66 on the second floor, these apartments were small…they were cramped and more often than not they were hideouts for hooligans and temporary housing for refugees as Hoshigakure was always expanding due to its influence.  The landlord was already notified and was waiting for Yamato just outside the apartment building, tapping his foot and looking rather impatient.

When Yamato approached the landlord filled him in on who the freeloaders were.  Apparently they were exactly what Yamato thought…Refugees from out near Konoha, a single family with two kids that were about to start receiving schooling, the mother works at a local bakery but has not been at work for a bit while the father was apparently a worker in a metal fabrication shop that was outside of the village and has not been seen back at the apartment in weeks.  The landlord was scummy…he informed Yamato that he had tried several times to be polite, even receiving letters saying that they were having trouble getting the ryo…but the squat man did not care…he just wanted his ryo and apparently he already had another person ready to take over the apartment within the week.  Yamato sighed and extended his right arm out, palm up to be given a key.  He was informed that there was not to be any bloodshed and that if he messes anything up, then it will be added to his rent.  At this point Yamato was already ready to just go tell the piggly little man to fuck off so he just kept his mouth shut and walked inside as he was not really given a time limit or told he was being supervised.  As he made his way up to the second floor with his hands in his pockets he noticed the stares he was receiving…the people here were from all walks of life, but the usual demeanor of residents of Hoshigakure was generally that if a shinobi was involved…it was bound to get bad fast so they just turned away or walked from Yamato’s sight quickly.  The second floor was more or less the same and as he arrived at the apartment in question he knocked with a force that demanded respect, but at the same time it was not urgent.  His heightened senses told him what he needed to hear…whimpers from the inside.

He sighed, knowing that what came next was never a good thing…

He pulled the key out as he heard from behind the door “please…no…don’t do this…we will get you the money…”  Yamato did not stop himself as he called out with a comforting tone, not a hard and cold tone.  “My name is Yamato…I am a shinobi of the village I am coming in at the request of the landlord. Please do not attempt to resist, and please do not forget that I can catch you if you try to run or hide…”  There was a click as a door lock could be heard, even after he had unlocked the main door the bolt that secured the door to the wall was put in place and he had a choice to make…he could continue to work with an understanding for the people inside…or he could force his entry.  “Do not make me have to use force, I am here to talk first and take action after.  Be reasonable…”  He said as he heard a cry from inside, it was that of a child…just one as he could tell that they were scared.  “I am not here to hurt any of you…”  He responded to the cry and waited a moment until the lock was pulled away from the door and then as he opened it into the room he could see that there was a woman with two kids behind her, she held a knife and looked ready to defend herself as Yamato walked into the room.  “What is it that you want…we told that bastard of a landlord that we would find a way to pay him.  So why send a shinobi to collect…are you just some damn thug?!”  She looked frail, her posture was shit and the knife she held looked dull to say the least.  He kept his eye on her as he quickly scanned the room, it was in general disarray and there was trash scattered about…it was filthy to say the least.  She caught him looking around and yelled at him.  “SPEAK!  I KNOW YOU NINJA ARE AT LEAST RESPONSIVE!  I WILL KILL YOU IF YOU COME AND TRY ANYTHING!”  She looked ready to lunge at him and Yamato held up his hands.  “How long has it been since your husband left?”  He asked suddenly, it looked as though they had been living like this for a while now and Yamato could guess what happened.  The woman dropped to her knees as she lost her energy…something was wrong here.  The children tried to comfort her and it looked as though they were scared, but there was a fire in their eyes…they were determined to protect their mother.

Yamato sighed.

“You cannot stay here any longer…pack your things…or whatever you have left.  You will be coming up to the fifth floor.  Apartment 350…do not worry about anything, whatever Ryo you have, keep it.  I remember when I first moved to Hoshigakure myself…the fire in your eyes…” he pointed at the two children, no older than ten, possibly his tone was inflection as he got down to one knee.  “That fire, the drive to do what you must for your family…I will nominate you both for the shinobi courses…now hurry and gather your things and get to the apartment,  there are two rooms that are free to use…a bathroom and food.  I will go inform the landlord that you all have been evicted.  We will talk more about this once back at my apartment.”  He then excused himself so he could inform the landlord…the man was surprised but more than happy to hear that the pests were properly dealt with.  He then bid the man goodbye as he made his way back up to his apartment where the small family was already making use of his bathroom, getting clean and his laundry room was occupied.  He set some rice in his cooker and made lunch for the small family as he found out a few things as they all soon joined him.  The father/husband of the family went out to work and never returned back home with only a note delivered to say that the man that was their bread winner had gone off to greener pastures and the matriarch no longer had the strength to fight back tears.  Yamato let her have her much needed release as the kids also fought back tears, he looked at them and they began to cry as they all ate.  Yamato was the first to stand up and clean his bowl of rice.  “You are all free to stay here as long as need be, what I have is yours…do not go into my room nor take any of my things…that is all I ask.  I will investigate the disappearance of your father soon.  However, I must return to my work as a shinobi…I will be back later today.”  That was all he could say as he pulled another mission scroll from his gi while exiting the apartment.  His next task was to help a restaurant rehabilitate and grow with upgrades.  The restaurant that put in the request was called the “Silky Noodle” and was a ramen bar, with a big attraction to an older audience…but the owner was hoping for more of a younger audience and as such requested someone young to partake in the mission.

Yamato made it to the city square in a relatively decent time and as he walked into the ramen bar he understood what was going on. There were people in their mid thirties and early forties taking up space and it looked like it was during their lunch rush.  He made his way up to the bar and placed the mission scroll down and waited for the owner to come forth, which took about ten minutes, which was a lifetime as he practically bathed in the smells of the ramen and scents of the people around him.  When he finally came to Yamato the man looked a bit disheveled and Yamato had half a mind to just fuck with him a little bit. But he was different than when he was still acting as Miyamoto Terumi and as the lunch rush started to settle Yamato talked with the man a bit and learned a little about his business.  It was founded in Konoha and had links to most villages almost as if it was a franchise and the need for ramen was that great.  However, the general consensus  was that the overall look was too comfortable to those that were outside of their twenties.  Yamato took a moment to look around and then asked about the typical wait times for customers.  When he was starting out as a shinobi he remembered helping businesses that were friendly to the shinobi force, but seeing as times have changed and now it was just the norm for the businesses to work alongside shinobi…it became imperative that a knowledge in style and even some architectural knowledge would be needed.  Yamato remembered when he was researching the rebuilding of his home village and now that his goals have changed he decided that it would be best to use his knowledge in helping out someone that looked to help the village through their cooking as a service to the village that he now protected with his life.  “Ok so first things first, we have to maximize inclusiveness and speed.  I think instead of an upfront bar, you should create booths at the kitchen area where the ramen can be made and delivered without much need to stay there, make it for single occupants only so you can maximize output and input.  The booths in the main seating area should be widened to allow for maybe more of a hot pot and allow customers to create their own ramen as they are sitting.  Doing so would change up the overall theme of a “ramen bar” but would attract the younger audiences you are wanting.  What do you think?”  Yamato asked him as the members of the staff had various looks on their faces, but after a few minutes of heated discussion the staff sighed and others looked happy with the outcome as the owner nodded and informed Yamato of their positive decision to make the upgrades as he stated.  They would be closing down for the week to remodel after the day was over.  It looked like the job was completed to a satisfactory degree and the man signed off on the scroll before Yamato took his leave.

On his way out he twirled the last mission scroll around in his left hand and sighed before opening it to look at it for the last time.  This time his day would conclude with him finishing up a construction crew that is currently building a new section of housing near the gates.  And expanded building to place refugees and those that have little ryo to allow them to live without breaking their backs or their banks to contribute to the village.  So he set off in the direction of the construction, he remembered the place when he was traveling to let a refugee in not but maybe two days prior…at this point Yamato’s daily schedule was filled with having to make amends to various issues in the village…there were a LOT more than when he was last around so it was a little baffling that the shinobi had any free time on his hands to do anything other.  The walk took about ten minutes or so as the former Terumi took it upon himself to make sure to help those that needed it more than how he used to in the past.  Once at the construction site he could hear the foreman giving orders, Yamato traded his usual utility belt for one of the contractors.  He was given a hardhat and some gloves but over all was left to his own devices, but was given the warning that if he slows down their timetable he would not receive any more work with them and they would be sure to screw him over in completion for the mission.  So as any normal human would he sighed until the foreman came up and told Yamato to get up into the building and to assist the fourth floor builders as they finish putting up the wall now that all the pipes and electricity has been wired through the place.  The fourth floor was lacking manpower and if they were late today it would mean they would have to push back their completion time back another day which was…not acceptable.

Yamato used his enhanced agility to make it up to the fourth floor and introduced himself, and was met with a nod and then a pointing to the sheetrock so that they could start putting the walls up.  He was able to pick the sheets up by himself, making the work even faster as he set the wall, one of the other workers that was going to help him instantly just went to town hammering home the sheet to the wood.  The workers were absolutely impressed with his speed and strength, and so the fourth floor actually was catching up to the higher floors in record time, the foreman actually was astounded and visited the worksite as he inspected the rooms.  Everything was looking to be in order so he moved on, but soon evening came and the floors were all done except for the fourth.  Yamato was pouring sweat as the workers assisted the shinobi in his work, eventually though they began to fall even further behind so Yamato took it upon himself to finish the last four rooms alone while the others caught their breath.  The foreman was calling for them to come down but Yamato was stubborn and would not let it end this way so he was making progress and even as he was one of the very few that remained it gave the construction workers pride to see a Chuunin of the village sacrifice their energy and do the work that was holding them back all day.  He managed to impale his hand with one nail, smash several fingers and even crack one sheet of sheetrock during his time working, but by the time that the sun finally dipped into the horizon and the lights were all gone…he hit the final nail to secure the wall in full.  He slumped down to the floor and breathed deeply for a moment, even in the dusty work environment he was happy with the result.  Blood, sweat, and energy was used in totality and the foreman actually came up to check on the shinobi, laughing with gusto as he saw the scene in the final room and even going as far as to help the shinobi up and give him a bottle of water.  He thanked Yamato for his hard, diligent work on the site and wished he would have a hundred men like him and he would never have to worry about time constraints again.  He asked for the mission scroll and signed off on it before eventually helping Yamato off the site, giving him back his belt and then making his way off site as well it was a job well done and the work he put in that day would actually come to his aid later…he would be seen as a strategic, hardworking, compassionate man that would do his best for the village he called home…Miyamoto the volcanic shinobi…the wonderboy Terumi was gone, and left was a new man…a model citizen of the village.

He returned home to his apartment after dropping his mission scrolls by the shinobi offices and receiving not only his payment, but also an even greater reward as he had passed a milestone and was finally stronger…all that work he had put in was finally starting to pay off.  Walking into the apartment he could see the lights of the rooms were still on, he took his time and made himself a bowl of rice and ate slowly before finally showering off and tossing his dirty clothes into a basket for cleaning at a later date…the shinobi was finally allowed to rest after such a long day and when his head hit the pillow in his room, that bed became a cloud and the shinobi drifted off into sleep…

This was just a normal occurrence for the young man that had seen a little of his younger self that day.  He was still in some ways…that little kid from all those years ago.
