Desecrators of the graves Empty Desecrators of the graves

mission

There had been evidence of suspicious activity at one of the graveyards, and Travin was supposed to go and stand guard at it with a partner for the mission. From what he was told it was a bring them back dead or alive mission. Travin didn’t have any problem either way and he was capable of accomplishing the task either way as well. He thought as he strapped his shoulder guard on his MistWalker Armor, and checked his gear to make sure that everything was intact and good to go. Walking outside Travin saw that it was a misty night and could only imagine from here just how bad the graveyard would end up as. It was still a little chili but his armor was enough to keep him warm with its sleeves down and hood up.

Travin took off from his house jumping from roof to roof to make it to the meting spot. He was told to meet his team at the backside of the graveyard for an easy entrance that no one would be able to see them take from the streets. Dropping down in the grass by the giant tree in the back of the graveyard. Travin would keep his eyes open as he squatted down leaning his back against the massive tree. He took note of the mausoleum’s lining on the left side while the rest of the graveyard was filled with tombstones. They sat in rows starting in the front and making their way to the back. The paths that separated the tombstones and Mausoleum formed a H path with a row running down in front of the Mausoleum with another running up the center of the tombstones and a third path running from the other two.

Travin would wait for his partner to show up. He had gotten here a few minutes early just in case whoever was doing things in this graveyard showed up early in the night to throw off everyone. Since Travin didn’t know if they knew anyone in the missions office or not. After all it would not be the strangest thing he had ever heard of before.

Desecrators of the graves Empty Re: Desecrators of the graves

Murata consciously allows herself to be heard as she follows Travin's chakra signature towards where he's positioned himself in the graveyard, smiling to him in acknowledgement as she drops from the branches of the tree a few meters from him. The silent movement this village prides itself on has been enjoyable to learn and put into practice, but her allies have gotten testy when she's seemed to appear from nowhere. Since she's grown more accustomed to using her sensory techniques, the chakra around her sings in a constant low-level chorus, which some would likely find annoying. To Murata, it is cause for great joy. She still cannot make out the words or the images, not without touch, but the hum soothes her.

"Good evening," she says. Murata's chain armor gleams slightly in the faint light, and her face is a touch red from the chill in the air. "It was a pleasant day for you, I trust? This was all I was scheduled for, so it was nice to have some time for myself." A conversational, pleasant tone - small talk with coworkers.

At first glance, her mission partner reminds her of Gonk. Another serious-faced early bloomer, though this one has traded the curious blue skin for curious blue eyes. They had been provided small, brief files on one another with the mission details, just enough for recognition - age, photo, rank, clan. No clan was listed for Murata, of course. Taking a single name had been fairly normal back home, but it seems less commonly done here, and it is always awkward to fill out forms. She is not sure what she would ever claim as a surname, however.

The mission briefing had also contained some details on what had been occurring in this graveyard. There had been no witnesses of whoever had been breaking in, suggesting either bad luck or a particularly slippery suspect. Several headstones had been entirely smashed, and other ones dug up and remains stolen, largely targeting Hozuki.

Desecrators of the graves Empty Re: Desecrators of the graves

Travin was leaning against the tree waiting when a pale athletic woman dropped down from the tree. “Good evening” she said as her feet hit the ground. Travin turned and smiled “Hay, and it's not been too bad they gave me the day off as well. Figured it was so I wouldn't be tired on these late missions” he said in response to the women. It wasn’t hard to know that she was his partner for this mission. After all he had been given a short file on her letting him know about who he would be partnered with with the most extensive details on appearance so they could pick each other out in a crowd if need be. Travin knew that she would be easy to spot walking by at this time of the night, as her tattoos and scars would give her away to him.

He had been sitting here thinking about what would be the best way to catch or kill this guy if it came down to it. He knew that Murata was a sensory ninja from her profile just like she probably knew that he was a genjutsu specialist from his. Which is probably the reason that they were sent to find this guy. She would be able to find him and he could take him down alive inside of a genjutsu. That is as long as the guy wasn’t some highly trained shinobi in genjutsu anyways. He doubted it but it was still possible and on the off chance he still had his trump card. Which would be to just kill the guy and call it a night.

Well you're the sensory ninja how you want to go about finding this guy. The file didn’t mention any of your abilities outside of being a sensory ninja” Travin would ask Murata. He would let her take the lead as she would obviously be better at finding people than he was. “If it helps my doujutsu, Seigan is able to see chakra, so I won’t be completely useless when it comes to finding him. Just tell me where you want me” he would add before turning back and looking through the graveyard looking for signs of movement.

"My file prioritizes my sensory abilities? I suppose they are a more precious commodity here," she says. "I have been much longer acquainted with weapons." Her heavy club sits slung on her back to support her assertion. Fish Eagle, her poleaxe, has been left at home for this mission. This is another task where she has been instructed to bring their target in alive, if possible, and she knows that the weapons you wield influence the possibilities of violence that bloom in your mind. Fish Eagle does have a blunt end, of course, but it is a much crueler one than her kanabo, as mean as the weapon on her back may look.

Murata 'takes' the lead by staying quite still, comfortable in her sheltered position by the tree. As much as the graveyard is a curiosity to her, she would rather peruse its names during the daylight hours, when she does not have greater priorities assigned to her.

"We will hide," she says, "and watch. If we reveal ourselves, our quarry will become cautious and skittish, or abandon their project entirely for the night and waste our time." Murata hops up to grab a low-hanging tree branch, pulling herself up higher into the canopy, voice trailing quietly downwards to her companion. "Follow me. I can watch the entire graveyard, so there is no need for us to split up."

Murata makes her way near the top of the tree, comfortably hidden among the pine needles and fog. Distant city lights gleam through the mist, the rest of Kirigakure carrying on as normal. The graveyard below, blanketed in thick mist, is an enigma to her until she forms the Seal of Confrontation and spreads her awareness across the grounds. It has been closed for several hours now, and had been for much of the day due to damage from the previous two nights, so there are no straggling mourners to distract her. The flames of Travin's chakra are clear to her, and several signatures, outside the grounds and likely quite innocent. For now.

"It is novel for me to live in a city where so many people are up and doing business the late hours," she muses, gaze falling over the lights of the village while her sensory awareness remains on the graveyard below.  "Convenient for the odd hours demanded of missions..."

Desecrators of the graves Empty Re: Desecrators of the graves

Travin followed Murata up the tree and the higher they went the colder it got and the thicker the mist got. Making it harder for Travin to see anything down in the graveyard, but that is why he was following her lead for this mission. He had worked with a few sensory shinobi in the past and knew what kind of abilities they had. He knew that if a sensory shinobi wanted to find you they would find you. It didn’t take them long to get to the top of the trees, as Travin took a seat on one of the branches. His eyes would glow blue as his Seigan activated. He knew that the mist would make it hard for him to make anything out down in the graveyard, but if Murata could point him in the right direction he may be able to find the chakra signature of whoever was messing with this graveyard.

Travin nodded along as Murata commented on how novel it was to be in a city where people were up all hours of the night. He took a minute to think about what she had said. He had grown up in the village and was used to random people walking around all night and had taken quite a few late night shifts with either guard duty or something like what they were doing now. “So if you're not used to the big city life. Then you can’t be from inside the village. If you don’t mind me asking where you grow up at. I was born and raised inside of the village.” It would be stated as an innocent question with no emphasis on anything in particular outside of just being curious.

Desecrators of the graves Empty Re: Desecrators of the graves

Murata seems perfectly at ease with the question, even eager to provide an answer, though she does not have much to say immediately.

"I grew up in Wolf country. The cities there were not quite like this one." Her months spent in Matsurajo had not been during a happy time. Perhaps the people go out at night more often there now. She hopes so. "I am better acquainted with the countryside."

The graveyard is quiet. Something she had meant to do earlier occurs to her - something she had been thinking about since she had figured out how to use the Shadow Clone technique a few days prior. She pulls up a sleeve and forms a one-handed Dog seal, placing a Mark Seal on the inside of her wrist. She rubs her thumb over the slight tingle of the seal until it passes, and then resumes concentration on her sensory technique - the little dot pinging at her awareness now, distantly. She draws no attention to the act, casually continuing their conversation as she does so.

"What was it like to grow up here, if I may ask? To us, shinobi were ghost stories. It fascinates me that such thriving cities could be based on the profession."

Desecrators of the graves Empty Re: Desecrators of the graves

She was from wolf country, a place that Travin had only heard of and knew nothing of the land. It did make him wonder if it was full of wolves though as it was a pretty common thing naming places after what is around. Such as hidden mist villages because of all the mists, or hidden sand villages being in a desert. Even the smaller villages that he knew of followed a similar idea with places like the hidden waterfall village was hidden behind a waterfall. He wouldn’t ask though thinking that following that logic that it would be obvious that there would be a lot of wolves in the area. Either way he was trailing off in his mind and returned to focus in time to hear her ask him about what it was like growing up in the city. It was a harmless enough question and it would only be fair that he answered as well.

“ It's about the same I think. Running around the village playing with the other kids and training with my family.” With a pause he would think about what else he could say. “Other than that I myself didn’t really get a lot of experience coming from a line of shinobi I was training by the time I could walk. Due to that there wasn’t a lot of time to play” with out knowing what else to say about it without going into his personal history too much he just kinda trailed off.

He kept his eyes on the graveyard the entire time he was talking with Murata trying to find any source of a chakra signature within the graveyard.

"That's so young! What do they teach you first?" Murata says. "I do not remember much of my birth family, but I know I helped out in the fields and with the animals. I must have been the same age..." she trails off, eyes turning sharply towards a location in the graveyard, shrouded in mist. "We have a guest. They just climbed the west fence, sixty meters down." Murata pauses for a moment, gathering more information from the visitor's movements.

"They seem to be carrying something heavy. A sledgehammer, perhaps." That would explain the smashed headstones. She drops from her branch, silent as the grave, landing on another below and creeping along to the fenceline to begin to move along it, towards their target. Confident in her ability to regain sensory on their mark once she has moved closer, she allows her focus to drop so she can begin another technique. Immediately she begins to turn translucent, beginning to vanish completely from Travin's sight save for the eerie specter of her chakra picked up by his Seigan.

"Do your best to immobilize them. It does not have to be for long. I will make this quick." She flashes him a confident smile just before her Hiding in Camouflage technique overtakes her face, and once she is totally hidden, she dashes along the fence towards the interloper. She wonders, as his signature reappears within the reduced range of her sensory, why she has always been placed with younger peers on missions. It naturally places her in the role of the leader, where she can certainly perform, but it isn't very comfortable for her. Perhaps this is what they mean by 'fake it until you make it'.

Desecrators of the graves Empty Re: Desecrators of the graves

Well we started off with the basic hand to hand combat and kunai training. Then as I got older and learned to use my chakra we moved into training me for when I unlocked my Seigan. Which mostly consisted of me learning a lot of book work and genjutsu'' he said with a smile knowing that there were not a lot of people in their line of work that liked book work. He was about to ask Murata when she first started training to be a sensory ninja, as it was something that Travin was always interested in but never really had the talent for it. When Murata let him know that they had movement in the graveyard. Someone with something big just jumped the fence. “Well time to get to work” he half mumbled as he followed Murata down the tree.

She let him know that the man had something heavy, probably a sledgehammer since that would explain the broken tombstones. She then told him to immobilize the guy before she started to turn invisible to the knacked eye. Travin gave her a nod knowing that he would still be able to see her clear as day with the chakra vision that his Seigan gave him. However he also noted that he would have to keep an eye out for that trick later. Since he didn’t walk around with his Seigan on all the time someone could still use it to get the jump on him.

Travin moved as quiet as he could till he was able to clearly make out the trespasser. He then quickly made some hand signs at his max speed Bird, Dog, Tiger, Bird and then pointed at the man. “Hay what you doing here” he would yell out at the guy. Who naturally like anyone else turned to see who was yelling at him. He would see Travin pointing at him before he would try to run away. However, at that point it was too late. The man would be paralyzed and stuck standing still. Inside of the genjutsu he would see Travin standing in front of him, eyes glowing with an eire blue light. Then Travin would touch him on the shoulder and the man would fall back into a casket that was already in a grave. “Lets see how you like” he would say as the man would realize that he was unable to move. Because he was trapped inside of his own corpse, as he watched the lid close on the casket and would be forced to listen to the dirt fall onto the top of the casket, unable to move an inch.

Once the sound of dirt had stopped hitting the casket he would be back standing in front of Travin again. “We will do this till you learn your lesson” Travin would tell the man before touching him once more and watching him fall back into the casket.

Desecrators of the graves Empty Re: Desecrators of the graves

The man growls in irritation, chakra surging through him as the genjutsu splinters apart like scenes from a ruined film reel. He's on the younger side, but haggard and thin, with patchy-looking skin and unhealthy blond hair. The missing-nin life has been visibly unkind to him, and he has grown the disposition to be unkind in return. He's dressed like he's been working on the docks - likely how he's gotten into the village - and he has a shovel slung to his back.

"Rentei," he hisses, tossing the sledgehammer aside and starting to form handseals, chakra flaring, the air crackling with building electric charge. He has the air of a man who is cornered, desperate, and doing his best to be intimidating, as though fluffing himself up like an animal appearing to look larger. "Those knockoffs of yours will barely buy me a week's food, but I'll enjoy prying them from your skull for that, kid -"

Thunk. There's the dull sound of taijutsu against skin. The man teeters precariously, eyes going unfocused, and then he crumples. The charge in the air vanishes.

Murata drops her camouflage, looking down at their quarry with slightly raised eyebrows. For a moment, she lets her hand hang in the air where she had struck him, surprised it had been that easy. She crouches beside him, and then scoops him up to haul his unconscious form up on to her shoulders with a low huff of effort.

"Would you look at that," Murata says. "Full pay for a half hour's work. We are not a bad team."
