Would it kill either of them to show at least some trace that would let him know that he at least somewhat made an impression. But I suppose that it would, since neither boy seemed rather responsive to the extremely impressive display of power that easily outclassed anything that they could do. Maybe they were just jealous of how much stronger Damon was than either of them. Or maybe they just missed it entirely. And so the Uchiha began to sign the handseals Monkey → Bird → Dog → Ram but did not channel chakra into the technique. Instead, his chakra fizzled away as it retreated back into the depths of his body. Yurei had spoken up about what had been bothering him. The death of a father. Chills spread across Damon’s body as the news sunk in: another boy would be left with a void that only a father could fill, feeling scared and alone. He had already been moving closer to Yurei in order to place a reassuring hand on the boy’s shoulder. However, upon further investigation, he noticed the tears falling from his eyes. Damon could not help but notice the dampness that he felt dripping slowly across his own cheeks. Simply hearing the news had turned him back into the boy who had lost his own father, sympathy flooding over him. He would wrap his arms around Yurei protectively as he offered him a comforting hug, saying nothing for a moment before replying, “I’ll definitely be there.” He stared forwards over the head of the shorter and younger boy at nothing in particular. Damon would then let go and take a step back before regaining his composure, and using his forearm to clear away his own tears. This was quite the unfortunate coincidence. Neither of the others even assumed that Damon was an orphan, as the subject had never come up. He had dodged the opportunity to bring it up when Akio had mentioned that his parents had been arguing. Speaking of Akio, it was his turn to respond to Yurei’s simple request. Damon was already thinking of how he was going to make sure that he had enough money to afford a traditional black kimono. His own father had never gotten a funeral, because no family members could pay for it. Instead, he had been given a community lot, unmarked and unknown. Nobody would know what he had to go through. It may be morbid, but Yurei was at least lucky in this manner. At least his father had been loved by more than just his son.

Still very tired from the genjutsu Akio would be caught off guard by Yureis sudden drop of the information. Blinking twice before he said anything, he’d tilt his head and place a hand on his own neck. “And here I was complaining about my arguing parents… Jesus. I’m sorry man” He’d awkwardly pause before standing up and saying. “I’ll definitely be there”

Soon night would begin to break into daylight, the sun peeking out from the horizon as it did so. “We should probably all get some rest” Akio would say. “I’ll see you guys tomorrow, Yurei… You should really get some sleep”

Yurei was taken aback by Damon’s sudden hug. The Uchiha didn’t seem so open that he would outright cry and hug the pale boy, but Yurei was more than happy to receive one. That’s what he needed right now. He smiled. This time it wasn’t forced, but genuine. So long had he tried to appear happy and give the two the satisfaction of learning their jutsu with a smile, but maybe those smiles were too obviously fake.

Yurei wrapped his arms around Damon, returning his warm embrace. “I’m lucky to have you guys,” he said, finally releasing Damon from the hug after a moment of comfort. “I’m glad you’ll be there,” the boy nodded, wiping away his tears, “Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

The Uchiha boy looked up at the sky as life began to form, bringing a brilliant color of orange and blue to the otherwise dark sky. The stars faded as the light from the sun grew, and nodded as Akio began to depart. “Yeah. Yeah, you’re right. I need to get home,” he said, sniffing. “Thank you, again,” he said, smiling thinly. “It’s, uh, in two days from this evening. I’ll see you there.” Yurei nodded, waving goodbye to the two boys as he made his way home. The genin walked slowly out of the training grounds as the warm sunlight crept over the horizon. This would be a tough two days, but the sun reminded him of those who stood by him.

Well, seems like everyone else is going home. Although it was true that they had all been out and about without sleeping, which is something that Damon needed to catch up on. However, it would not be happening within the next couple of days, at the very least. There was so much to do and seemingly so little time to do so. He wanted to be chuunin as soon as humanly possible, and Damon had been getting very little sleep in preparation. Which seems very contradictory, however, between missions, training, and everything in between, he barely had time to do things he wanted to do, such as be with his friends. He had no family with whom to spend time, after all.

He waved to the two boys as they departed once the moon did. The sun had risen, although it was still rather low to the ground. This left him alone in the training grounds just at the break of dawn. Just one last time, he thought to himself. Preparing himself by taking a deep breath, Damon began kneading fire chakra in the pit of his stomach once more. He then signed the handseals Monkey → Bird → Dog → Ram, expelling fire chakra from his body which enveloped him for a brief moment, as he looked towards the sky and shot the jutsu in a flaming spiral. He looked at it rather fondly, but not because he liked fire. No, he liked having control over the fire.
