Lumber Mission

Akarui got up early the next day feeling well rested From a good night’s sleep. He washed his face and changed into he mission gear. He could hardly contain his excitement as he put all his gear on while looking at the mirror. He had changed a lot since last time. He looked much more grown up compares to last he took missions.

Leaving the house Akarui made his way towards the Hokage building to see the mission board. It wasn’t very crowded, only a couple of four man cells and a few chuunin judging from their vests.

”Not many E-rank missions posted today.” Akarui scanned through the board. He saw a few that he could do but they were all mundane. He wasn’t complaining, it was fact. He felt like some fresh air so he decided to take the lumber mission.

Leaving the Hokage building, he made his way out to the forest as per the instructions to where the ‘Logging zone’ is. He found his was soon enough due to the sound of chopping and trees falling. Upon arriving at the scene he saw a heap of men and women chopping down trees then dragging it to a neat pile.

”Excuse me sir, I’m here as per village request. Point me to an axe and I’ll get to it.” Akarui said as he approached a man with a clipboard who clearly is in charge.

“Hello young man. Good to hear. You’ve come to the right person.” The man said with a smile. He pointed at a wagon with spare sharp axes within. “Just grab yourself one and find a tree"

So Akarui went and grabbed an axe from the pile and set out to find himself some trees to cut. It didn’t take long to find a few to the side. Lining up the axe at the bottom, Akarui took it back and swung down with force. The axe bit deep into the tree with a thwack. He took it out and came down on the spot above the first cut.

Using those first two hits as a guideline, he managed to keep chopping between them accurately. After getting half way through the tree, he started again on the other side but lower.

Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!

It all took him half an hour to cut to a point where he could topple the tree with a push. After which he went to get a chain with hooks he saw other workers using. Then he had to hook the tree with the chain and drag it to the stockpile area. Akarui spent the rest of the day taking down trees with an axe and pulling them into the pile. It was strenuous work which he surprisingly enjoyed.

By the time the supervisor blew the whistle telling everyone to stop work for the day, Akarui had cut 27 trees himself. He felt exhausted but satisfied as he went to find the Supervisor.

“Thank you for your hard work. If you change your mind about being a Shinobi, I’ve got a job for you.” The supervisor laughed as Akarui bid farewell.

Akarui reported back to the Hokage building mission board before returning home.
