The Exam - but with ice

Finally...the day of the exam had arrived.  To say he was nervous was an understatement.  Still, he did his best to get ready in the morning, so as to make the day pass as easily as possible.  Each student had recieved a designated time in which to perform in front of the examiner.  They simply had to show them that they could perform the necessary jutsu as learned in the academy as well as some simple written tests.  In truth for once Xuexing had the smallest amount of confidence.  It wasn't the written test he worried about; it was the practical.  All around him in his room was scroll after scroll detailing every small detail they had ever gone over, along with the normal eating and bathroom habits of no less than three teachers.  One never knew what they might ask, and he wanted to be as prepared as possible...what if they wanted a spy, he surely would be fantastic at that.  So, his morning went studying over the various details and practicing his hand seals in between to make sure he was as ready as he could be.  It was while he was studying the topographical map of the Land of Fire that he heard his mom shout that he had better head off.  Looking at the time he gasped and threw as much as he could in his back before rushing off.  Barely with a goodbye he was out the door and rushing down the road to the academy.  

He'd arrive not long after at the academy took up a place in line as designated by one of the helpers and went back to reviewing his scrolls on genjutsu and its applications in espionage.  There was no genjutsu in their practical, but still he wanted to make sure he was as prepared as possible.  Still, he wouldn't have to wait long before it was their groups turn to go in and take a written portion of the test.  Going in he would take his seat with the test, and flip over the paper.  Writing his name at the top with confidence, he would move his way through the different questions.  The same questions that had caused him stumbling blocks throughout the start of the year, seemed to flow easily.  It was rare for him to be this focused and confident....but he had also taken practice tests that he had made up himself all night.  He rubbed his eyes, and though he was tired it was proving that the effort was well worth it.  Finishing up a final question on the trigonometry of a thrown shuriken in the estimated wind conditions of 4mph, (The question had been explain the foundations of bukijutsu) he would stand and hand the paper to the instructor in charge of proctoring this portion.  Smiling he would go to walk cooly out of the room only tripping once over his own feet and go await his name to be called.  Half the test done, now all the remained was the practical.

It only required a little amount of time before his name was called once more.  Moving to a classroom he found himself alone with a proctor.  The proctor seemed to be about middle aged, with a kind face.  He smiled as Xuexing walked in and provided him with the necessary instructions.  It seemed simple enough, he was required to perform the clone and transformation technique, and as a bonus point, he would also allow him to show off one other basic jutsu that he felt that he had mastered during his time at the academy.  Taking up his position he would take a deep breath, and begin to form the hand seals.  They would go quickly, muscle memory taking over more than any thinking, and in a puff of smoke he would transform, looking almost exactly like the instructor.  Slightly taller and thinner, and his hair was still black instead of a dark brown the instructor would make notes on his paper, and ask him to start the next jutsu.  Letting the transformation technique release he felt his nerves beginning to pick up, a fine bead of sweat moving down his forehead.  Next up was the clone technique, Taking a deep breath he would amke the seals though with more of a stutter this time, upon completion the same puff of white smoke would appear, only to show a version of Xuexing that looked like it had been dunked in ice water.  Its skin a shade of blue and teeth chattering.  

The instructor still with his warm smile would make notes and ask Xuexing to try again.  He did and was able to finally make a passable version of the jutsu.  The proctor making notes as he watched the boy also perform the surface walking technique without issues.  He'd make notes and finally announce that the boy had passed.  Giving him a certificate he would send him off to enjoy the day that he had become a shinobi.  He would sigh thinking that the boys home room teacher owed him a drink, he'd been most patient.

Running home, he would proudly announce to his parents that he had passed, and for the first time in a very long time...he did not feel the familiar chill that always plagued him.  Perhaps it was just the joy of the day, or having used up a lot of his chakra for the exam, whatever the reason it would go down as one of the best days of his life.  He went to bed that night with a smile, and was actually eagerly looking towards the next few days.  Once the final pass/fails was gathered they would name out the genin squads.    It was with these thoughts on his mind that he wondered who he would be paired with, and how he would finally have a core group of friends.  He couldn't help but imagine how cool they all would be, surely talkative and normal people....it was all so exciting.
