The Reforging - Page 3 Empty Re: The Reforging

Fri Mar 10, 2023 2:21 am
Stepping out of the building she couldn't help but musing on the cipher she had picked up, how odd it was that rather then encode the true message within another message they had opted to simply send a string of random letters and numbers, foolish was an understatement, at the very least they could have sent the code within a message that could be misinterpreted, a simple case of using a variable number of words within a sentence could have been enough to convey such a short message without too much trouble, it was to her benefit of course, but the incompetence irked her, she didn't mind a challenge or indeed even being outwitted, as long as the attempt was made with some degree of competence, this just stank of fools playing a game well above their capacity. Still there was little she could do at the moment, so she reluctantly began to make her way through the city towards the guard barracks, the early morning sun still barely peaking over the horizon even as the burgoning movements of the day began to stir within the city.

Making her way through the city she couldn't help but continue to observe the oddities of this village, the few explosions she had failed to prevent last night had left a physical mark upon the city, the occasional building showing signs of damage, a blocked off roadway or cracked pathway, and yet none of the people seemed phased by it, even more so as she thought back on the events of the night she couldn't help but wonder how so many people could move so cheerily in the morning when certainly the vast majority of the cities population had been reveling at the festival last night... her thoughts shuddered to a stop as her mind began to tick over, she had forgotten something, something rather important that had only just come back to her after the events of the night.... in fact she had forgotten two things, the first, perhaps the more important one in many ways was the shopping date that she had arranged with a rather beautiful young noble lady the morning of the day before, something she had not only been somewhat looking forward too, but also something that would allow her to gain some possibly helpful intel on the guests that would be traveling under her care to the wedding at the next town over. Whilst the topic and the job had been floating around in the back of her mind she had, in all honesty, forgotten the commitment. Having barely slept more than a few moments last night, if you could call being passed out from splitting your mind in two twice over and containing an explosion capable of leveling the entire town, sleep, she had mentally still been treating her time as if the morning was yet to come. Looking up at the sky she estimated she had perhaps an hour at most . This cipher and poisoning was certainly something Rin needed to investigate further but she was short on time and really couldn’t manage to delay any longer than she already had, and to make matters worse she still didn't know how to remove the mask and outfit she was wearing.

Perhaps it was her chakra flowing freely now somehow conveying her emotions and intentions to the mask, perhaps it was the morning sun finally rising over the horizon, perhaps it had simply been long enough for the mask to deem the performance over, or perhaps it was a million other reasons, but for whatever the reason, just as she thought that she felt a subtle click from the mask, a shudder as if something had changed, and putting her hand up to the mask she felt, just at the faintest brush of her hand, the mask release falling off of her and into her hand. Rin had to blink at the sudden increase in the light, though she hadn't realized it at the time it would seem that in addition to the visage obscuring function the mask offered the mask had also been filtering the light levels. She likely would have spent more time pondering the nature of the mask if, a strong breeze at that moment reminded her that the mask had, for whatever reason, been keeping the rest of her attire in place. Now that it was gone the attire as a whole had become a lot less secure, the wind reminding her it was best to find somewhere to change before she suffered from a rather embarrasing wardrobe malfunction.

Looking around for a nearby location she could take advantage of she found that she had, by some cruel quirk of fate, found herself in this position in the middle of a residential district, thankfully she had not found herself stuck in this situation within the slums which, whilst she could certainly handle herself in a fight, especially now that she was free to make use of her chakra at will, she didn't fancy having to change her attire in such a dirty and tightly packed space where her body would be on view for the numerous shady men that lurked throughout such locations. Sighing internally at the necessity of her next actions she began channeling chakra to her feet, pooling it there for a moment before releasing her hold in it, intending on giving her just enough lift to bring her to the top of a nearby roof, giving her just enough cover. Unfortunately for Rin she noticed just a moment too late as that same echo of her own will executed the same technique a moment after she released the hold she had on her own technique and propelling her far up into the air.

Appearing in the sky a few dozen meters above a building a few blocks over Rin couldn't help but let out an indignant squeak as she, doing her best to keep her clothes upon her body, tucked herself into a ball, trying her best to keep some modicum of dignity even as she plummeted to the rooftop Rin let out a surprisingly girlish squeak as she impacted the roof of the building, doing her best to roll with the force as she came to rest against the lip of the roof.

Rin had to suppress the urge to let out a cry of rage and anguish, she had spent so long held back by the curse of the sage of endless night, had thought herself free to finally use her chakra once again, had truly believed for that short brief moment that she could finally relish in her own freedom, that she was free of the myriad curses and limitation's placed upon her, and now suddenly she was right back where she started, her years of finely honed senses and abilities rendered... well not useless but certainly ineffective. For a moment she could feel herself on the precipice of a breakdown, of giving up on this life and ending everything in one final firy rebellion against whatever cruel fate the heaven's had in mind for her... but that was foolishness, she knew that, even if this was a setback, it was a small one compared with what she had already faced, she would overcome it just as she had overcome all the others, and, though she may not know how, she would grow all the stronger for it.

Uncurling herself and shakily pushing herself up from the rooftop floor she stood, dusting herself down and wincing at the bruises she had aquired from her fall. Gritting her teeth she took an inventory of her personal condition. She had managed to cover much of her body in scratches and wounds from the force of the impact and subsequent tumbling journey across the rooftop, thankfully nothing was too badly injured, a dislocated finger on her hand, the only notable Injury that wouldn't simply heal itself in a few moments from the passive effects of her incredibly pure chakra cycling through her body. That too would be a negligible injury in all honesty, were it not for the fact that she was still limited to the one arm. As it was her ability to independently ensure the digit was moved back into alignment and set properly almost entirely nonexistent without resorting to the use of an advanced technique of some sort, of course she was now free to use her chakra reserves without fear of the corruption's retaliation within her, and even with the strange echo that had formed within her chakra she had the reserves and control to perform something so, compared to identifying a bizarre new poison or stopping a city destroying release of explosive chakra, simple.

Closing her eyes for a moment and focusing her will Rin stepped over to the lip of the roof's banister and placed her hand upon the short wall, the dislocated finger pointing down against the edge of the construction. Turning her attention back inwards she began to pull chakra to the wound, pooling it around the wound and allowing it to coalesce there around the wound. She watched carefully, waiting until the chakra had just become thick enough to start mending the bone and ligaments. Right when the cells began to shift back together she tightened her grip on the chakra within her hand, freezing it in place and binding the hand in place at the same time before with a rough jerking motion she pulled the dislocated finger back into place using the wall as a point of leverage. The pain was excruciating, the lack of a proper way to manipulate the digit back into place and the complexity of the joint in question made the entire process a hundred times more painful than what doing the same thing with a shoulder joint would feel like. Certainly it was the sort of pain that would make most men, women, and children faint, but to Rin it was simply a pale echo of the pain she had felt in the past. She barely noticed the pain itself, her mind drifting back to that day, to the events in the ruins of the cursed sands, the tearing sensation as she felt a piece of herself being slowly and brutally removed in a way that would cause as much pain as possible. The blatant disregard for life that stared back at her from those cold distant eyes, the horrifying emptiness within them that seemed to stretch on for an eternity, swallowing her up with abandon and leaving her to float alone in an endless see of inky blackness where the horrors that swam deep within the mind of an eldritch god were simply diversions from the terror and horror of the cursed corruption that had been used to violate her body against her will. The seed of corruption that had been placed within her, slowly spreading and stealing more and more of her body for its own. The slow inevitable erosion of herself, the hindsight that that same corruption would utterly destroy even the person she was in order to birth the same monster that had created it.

Rin shook herself back to the present, unsure how long she had lost brooding on the past and a future that would never come to be, she felt cold, empty, and that was good, she had no need to feel... whatever she should be feeling at those thoughts, at those memories, now was a time for action, and so, her finger set back in place, the dense collection of chakra she had packed around it slowly healing the broken ligaments and minor fractures, she began to change.

The Reforging - Page 3 Empty Re: The Reforging

Fri Mar 10, 2023 2:21 am
First trailing her finger up the side of the wall she began to cycle her chakra, careful to infuse it with a blend of yin and yang chakra that would serve her purpose, the fabric of reality rippling open ever so slightly as space opened up before her, revealing an array of clothing of all shapes and sizes, a short exertion of her will and the space began to ripple, expanding to cover the rooftop and manifesting an array of equipment and items that she kept of hand for use on jobs and missions. The once large treasury of equipment and clothing had slowly diminished over the years, the drain on her resources and the damage accumulated from long days on the road slowly eroding the options she had until there was little left within the space, but thankfully her clothes hadn't yet been so thoroughly depleted that she didn't have access to at least a few casual clothes appropriate for such a shopping trip.
Wandering through the small makeshift wardrobe she examined what options she had, her eyes settling upon a pair of trousers, loose fitting and loose in style, they were far from the most stylish of garments, nor did they have any sort of decorative flair to them, but she was always happy to have pants on hand. They were also loose enough that she could wear them without worrying about them slipping down and exposing herself, which was always a plus.

Moving to the next rack she looked over a selection of shirts, her eyes landing upon a simple white button up, though unlike the other shirts it was made of a soft cotton rather than a stiff linen or cotton blend. She'd only worn the shirt once before and that was during a mission where she had needed to change into something more comfortable than her usual armor after a particularly grueling fight. It was a nice shirt, but not one she would wear on a normal basis.
Satisfied with her choices she moved to the racks that held shoes, picking out a pair of simple leather sandals. They weren't the most comfortable of footwear, but they were light, easy to move in, and would work well enough to get her through the rest of the day.

Finally she moved to the final rack, selecting a set of yukata style robes that were originally meant for formal occasions, but with the amount of time she had spent wandering around town in them, she usually ended up wearing them more often than not. She knew she would end up buying some new robes eventually, but for now these would do, the fabric was a bit stiffer than most of the robes she had, and the color scheme wasn't quite as muted as the ones she normally wore, but they would do well enough for the time being.

With her selections made, Rin began to dress herself, slipping out of the red robed costume she had been stuck in for the night and moving quickly to the rack where she had laid her clothes. She pulled out the white button up and slipped it on, then selected a pair of white cotton socks and pulled them on, followed by her sandals. She then moved to the section of the rack that held undergarments, selecting a simple pair of cotton boyshorts and pulling them on, finally moving to the last section of the rack, the one that held the yukata robe.

With her attire selected she snapped her fingers, letting the small wardrobe space begin to contract as she stepped out of it and back onto the roof, letting out a soft sight before looking back up at the sun, gauging the time. She was going to be cutting it close now but she should be able to make it on time. Jumping down from the roof and chaneling her chakra to her feet as she prepared to cushion the impact she landed with a soft thud, already moving as she darted off.
Rushing through the streets she managed to make it to the shop she and Sarah had agreed to meet at only the day before, though even that short time felt like an age to Rin, the many, many events of the night seeming to have taken far longer than the short time they had actually taken place within.
She wasn’t late exactly, but Sarah must have been excited for the shopping trip since she was already waiting when Rin rounded the corner, quickly attempting to smooth down her outfit self consciously as she strode up behind the girl that was lounging against the side of the building. The girl had put a lot of effort into her appearance for just a simple shopping trip, but Rin wasn’t going to complain, she was wearing a brilliant emerald green summer dress layered under a bright blue coat, an odd pairing, but one that somehow looked wonderful on her.

"I'm so sorry if I'm late," Sarah said with a smile, "it took me a bit to find a nice place to change and get my things together." the girl's genuine albeit absurd apology bringing a smile to her lips. If anything she was the one running late and yet this sweet innocent girl was apollogising to her.
Rin smiled back, "don't worry about it, If anything i'm the one thats late; you're here early enough that I might have missed my chance if I'd been even five minutes later. Lets go!"

Sarah nodded in agreement and they walked towards the shop hand in hand, not saying much else until they were inside. The shop was fairly small, nothing more than a few shelves stacked high with various items and some comfy looking chairs. A young woman sat behind the counter, she looked like she would be in her late teens maybe, and she flashed them both a smile as they entered.
"Hello there! Welcome to the cobbler's cobloaf a little shop of my father and I," she said warmly, "what can I help you two with today?"
Sarah grinned, "well I'm thinking we should start with some new shoes, these ones are all beat up and too small for me anymore."
The lady smiled again, "oh good choice, let me see what I've got for ya, I do have a wide selection!"
Sarah began to walk over to the shelf closest to where she stood and Rin followed close behind. "How tall are you, sweet? What size shoe?"asked the woman kindly
"Uh, about 5'7," Sarah replied and then paused briefly before adding, "and I wear a women's 8 1/2."
Rin didn't bother replying, instead she went straight to looking at the shoes on display, a pair of simple black flats caught her eye and she pulled them off the shelf. They were cute, simple and plain other than a basic embroidery around the base, and with plenty of support; just her style. She held them out in front of her, examining their design and size, feeling the soft leather, and nodding in satisfaction before setting them down next to Sarah's now empty shoes.
"Alright, those will work nicely. How about you?" the woman asked Sarah, holding up the same shoes Rin had picked out for herself, "these would look great on ya, but I don't think they'll fit you quite right." the woman added, eyeing Rin's selection.
"Oh they're for me actually" Rin replied shyly, it had been a while since she had bought anything nice for herself and the shoes had called to her.
"Really? Well, I hope you enjoy them" the woman replied as she turned back to Sarah, handing over a pair of shoes that were a few sizes larger than Rin's own.
Once Sarah had slipped her feet into the new shoes she gave them a quick test to make sure everything felt good, then turned to Rin to ask her opinion.
"They feel comfortable and seem sturdy" Rin answered honestly, "but they're a bit big, how do they feel on you?"
"They're perfect" Sarah said smiling, "they're very pretty and I love the way they look on me."
Rin smiled back and then glanced at the shelf again, "I still like those others better," she said pointing at a pair of heels with an elaborate decorative pattern along the top, "what do you think?"
"I think that one would lovely on you, but I'm partial to these myself" Sarah replied.
Rin blushed at her words and looked away, "I suppose you're right."
The woman set the new pairs of shoes aside by the counter and started ringing up the pricing for them, which made Rin's stomach churn slightly, she hadn't brought anywhere near enough money with her for this shops prices. Thankfully Sarah was footing the bill for this trip so Rin could relax, and besides she really did want to buy those shoes, but it still hurt her to spend this much on a pair of dress shoes, even through someone else.
Once the woman had bagged up their purchases the pair continued outside, Rin speaking up with a smile. "Shall we continue on? We still have a lot of shopping to do to prepare for the wedding"
Sarah nodded eagerly, "yes, absolutely, theres a wonderful little dress maker's shop around the corner that i would absolutely love to have a look at, let's go there next!" she said happily, starting to lead the way.
Rin sighed in relief and followed after, "I can't wait to see what you pick out!"
"Me either" Sarah giggled, "I know the perfect dress for you though." she said with a flirtatious wink.

After a short walk through the city, Rin and Sarah arrived at the small shop Sarah had mentioned, it was similar to the earlier shop, a small business selling a variety of clothes and accessories. This one however seemed to focus more on dresses rather than outfits, there were a number of mannequins displaying different styles, and several racks filled with fabric samples and an assortment of fabrics themselves.
Rin paused to take it all in, the small store was packed full of wonderful clothing and decorations. There were so many beautiful options it was hard to choose where to start.
"Go ahead and have a look, I'll be right here," Sarah said gently, "I'll make sure no one bothers us."
Rin nodded and stepped forward, moving from rack to rack to examine each piece carefully, wondering if she could afford anything, or even if she should pick something from somewhere so... fancy.
Sarah came up beside her and murmured quietly, "you should probably try on a few things before you commit, unless you're certain about something?"
Rin frowned at her, "are you mocking me?"
Sarah laughed softly, "of course not, it's just a bit more fancy than you seem used to. I wouldn't want you to buy something without knowing what you look like in it first."
Rin was quiet for a moment, considering her words and the implications behind them, but she eventually nodded, "okay, I guess you have a point."
Sarah smiled warmly, "good, follow me then, you'll know once you see it."
Rin glanced at her curiously, unsure why Sarah was being so helpful, but she decided to accept the offer and followed the shorter girl up to the dressing rooms anyway.
There were three separate rooms with wooden doors leading into them, each room had its own curtain that could be pulled across to allow privacy for changing. Sarah moved quickly to pull hers across and then waited patiently for Rin to step inside. The room itself was decorated to match the rest of the store, with pale pink walls and a fluffy white carpet, making it feel like a sort of private living space. Once Rin had closed and secured the door behind her she turned to face Sarah with a questioning expression.
"What is this?" she asked, confused.
Sarah smirked, "A dressing room. You haven't seen one before?"
Rin shook her head, "no, I've never needed one before, I always knew what I liked."
Sarah shrugged, "this happens sometimes, especially when shopping for something so fancy. Come on, I need to get you changed before anything else.
Rin nodded and moved to the nearest mirror, she wasn't entirely sure why she was doing this, but it felt strange to change in front of Sarah like this. She undid her hair quickly, letting it fall out of the ponytail she'd worn the whole time they'd been walking around, taking a few moments to inspect her reflection.

The Reforging - Page 3 Empty Re: The Reforging

Fri Mar 10, 2023 2:21 am
She was surprised at how attractive she looked, she had long cherry pink hair, full lips, and a striking blue eye that seemed to draw people in. Her skin was a light shade of tan, a natural color that contrasted beautifully against her hair. She lifted up her arm to examine her figure and saw that her body was slender and toned, though not overly muscular. She ran her hand down her sides, feeling the softness of her chest and abs, wondering idly if her breasts were large enough.
Sarah stepped up beside her, "why don't you try on some things and see what you think?"
Rin nodded, "okay."
She pulled off her robe and slipped her arms through the sleeves of the dress, pulling it over her head and letting it settle around her waist. When she looked back at Sarah, she was wearing a similar style, but in a darker shade of pink, almost purple.
"Wow," she breathed, "you look amazing."
Sarah smiled at her, "thank you, it's a nice dress isn't it?"
"Yes, it's lovely, I like the color." she replied, "but I think I prefer yours better."
Sarah laughed lightly, "it's okay, I'm sure we can find something you like too."
Rin stepped out of the dressing room and looked around, there were so many different dresses to choose from. She took a deep breath and moved towards one of the mannequins that was dressed in a beautiful red dress, she reached out and ran her fingers along the fabric, feeling the texture under her fingertips. It was silky smooth and felt wonderful, she wondered what it would feel like to wear it.
She stepped closer and examined the design closely, it was simple and elegant, but she could tell it was made from high quality materials. She ran her hands down the front and admired how smooth it was, feeling the way it clung to the curves of the mannequins body. She could see herself wearing it, it would be perfect for a party.
She stepped back and looked around the room again, trying to decide which dress to try on next. She had to admit, the thought of wearing something so expensive was exciting. She shook her head and tried to focus on the task at hand, she couldn't waste time thinking about such things, there were other dresses to try on.
She moved to a nearby rack and picked up a pale green dress, it was simple and elegant, but she couldn't help but feel it was too plain. She put it back and moved to another rack, this time picking up a black dress. It was a little more daring than she was used to, but she guessed that was what Sarah wanted her to do. Taking it back to the changing room she pulled it over her head and looked at herself in the mirror, it was a little tight, but it was still very flattering, shrugging and deciding she would rather something that fit her better she slipped back out of the dress and back into her own attire before she stepped back out into the main room and looked around again.
She didn't want to stay in the dressing room too long, when there were so many dresses to look at. She moved to a nearby rack and picked up a few more dresses, trying them on as she went. She found one that she liked, a deep red dress with a plunging neckline and a slit up the side. She held it up and admired it, feeling the way the satin material clung to her body, feeling the way the material would no doubt hug her curves. She moved back to the changing room and slipped it on, taking a moment to admire herself in the mirror, this one fitted like a dream. Taking the dress off and setting it aside for purchase she moved back out into the main room and looked around again, she couldn't believe how many dresses there were, she didn't know where to start. She moved to a rack of coats and jackets, picking up a few long coats that she liked and trying them on before putting them back and moving to the racks of shoes. She picked up a pair of high heels and tried them on, they were perfect, so she took them with her and set them on the counter, darting back into the change room to pick up the dress she had set aside before bringing it back to the counter.
"I'd like to buy these please." she told the woman behind the counter, "and I'll take that one too."
The woman nodded and picked up the dresses Rin had set aside, adding them to her pile of purchases. She rang up the items and handed them to Rin, "that will be twenty-five hundred yen."
Rin nodded about to pay the woman when Sarah popped back up beside her, "don't forget your coat." She said, adding one of the coats she had been admiring to the pile with a beautiful smile before handing the girl manning the desk a small collection of coins as she paid for Rin's selection yet again.
"You really don't have to do that" Rin protested, "I can pay."
Sarah shrugged, "it's fine, you're my guest. Besides, I've already bought you a dress, I think it's only fair that I get to buy you the rest of this as well."
Rin smiled and thanked her, taking the coat and dress with her as she and Sarah left the shop. She was a little surprised by the prices, but she supposed they were probably worth it.
***
They walked back through the busy streets of the city, enjoying the hustle and bustle of the city. They passed through a large square, lined with shops and stalls, where people were shopping and eating lunch. Sarah noticed Rin looking around and pointed to a small café, "why don't we take a break and have some lunch?"
Rin nodded and followed Sarah through the doors, sitting down at one of the tables and taking a menu from the waiter. She looked over the selections, but decided she'd rather eat something different, "what would you recommended having?" she asked the waiter.
He smiled and pointed to a dish on the menu, "the katsudon is very good here."
"That sounds perfect." Rin agreed, "please bring us a couple of those." She said, looking at Sarah for confirmation, a slight smile and a subtle nod from he was enough for Rin to hand over the menu to the waiter with a faint smile of her own.
The waiter nodded and left, returning a few moments later with two steaming bowls of rice topped with a rich brown sauce. He placed them down in front of Rin and Sarah, "would you care for anything else?" he asked as he took the remaining menu.
"A glass of white wine would be nice, thank you." Sarah said, smiling at him, hesitantly Rin nodded to her and she smiled back, adding politely "Let's make that two glasses".
He nodded and left, returning a moment later with a bottle of wine and two glasses.
"Thank you." Sarah said, taking the bottle from the man before he could serve them himself and pouring a glass for each of them, she handed Rin hers.
Rin took a sip of the wine, it tasted sweet and strong, "it's delicious." she complimented her, "thank you." She took another sip and felt a warm glow spread through her stomach. She looked around the café, noticing how the other diners were enjoying their food, the atmosphere seemed to be very relaxed. She smiled, taking a bite of her katsudon, it was wonderful, so much better than anything she had eaten back home in the sands.
After finishing the meal, they walked back through the streets of the city, stopping at a small shop that sold sweets. They browsed through the shelves, picking up a few things and leaving with small bags of treats. It was strangely relaxing, she had been operating in crisis since even before the events of that day in the sands, she genuinely couldn't remember the last time she had so freely wandered a city without some sort of crisis hanging over her head... although she supposed the mysterious poisoning and plot to fill the city with haphazardly designed explosives might count as a crisis, but they didn't really affect her all that much, they were a crisis for another person, she was merely here to get paid.
"Well I suppose that we should go our seperate ways for the time being" the voice rang out piercing through her thoughts as she looked up from her musings. It was Sarah of course, the previously assertive and outgoing girl now looking rather shy as she stood there under the afternoon sun. the afternoon sun? when had it gotten so late in the day? Rin was surprised at herself loosing track of time like that but she supposed she had been enjoying herself on the little shopping trip, even if she was, at least in part, playing a role for the girl. Rin nodded with a touch of genuine disappointment in her voice before agreeing, "yes, I suppose we should. Thank you for everything, Sarah, it was a pleasure to meet you."
Sarah smiled and nodded, "you are welcome, Rin. I hope to see you soon, have a pleasant journey." She bowed slightly and turned to leave, pausing just as she was about to pass out of earshot, "oh!" she said, turning back, "I almost forgot, I have something for you." She reached into the pocket of her kimono and pulled out a small box, wandering back and handing it to Rin.
Rin smiled and took the box, opening it to reveal a small pair of fox earrings, gorgeous silver metal woven as if it was silk around a small diamond that had been cut to look like a flame. Whoever had been responsible for the artistry must have been truely talented because the gem sparkled in the light, seeming to almost flicker as it was turned one way or the other "they're beautiful." she said before pausing as she realised just how expensive these must be, "thank you, Sarah, they are lovely." She said, her voice sounding odd to her own ears. She had handled expensive items before of course, but it had been a long long time since anyone had given her such a gift without some obvious benefit to themselves.
Sarah smiled again, "you are welcome. I hope to see you soon, if not sooner." She bowed and turned again, walking away. Rin watched her go, feeling a warm glow spreading through her stomach again, for some reason she found herself smiling as she thought about the girl's words.
Letting out a slight chuckle as she watched the girl go, admiring the coquetish way the girl swayed her hips back and forth as she left, no doubt hoping to gain Rin's attention. Rin couldn't help but feel the entire shopping expedition had been good for her, the distraction from all the events of the night had certainly been needed. Turning with a happy smile on her face she wandered off in the direction of the cities guard house, deciding that even if she had enjoyed the break from her job she still needed to continue her investigation... at least that would have been the case had it not been for the short older woman she stumbled into, knocking her, and her day's shopping over.

Rin was almost too stunned to react, she had not sensed this woman at all, even now with the woman standing right in front of her the older woman was like a void, to her spiritual senses it was as if ther was, quite literally nothing there. Once again she was reminded of the strangeness of this village, town, city... she didn't know what to call it anymore in all honesty. But what she did know was that, despite her lack of any discernible chakra signature, this little old lady, radiated the aura of a long time practitioner of the shinobi arts, albeit one who's tallent seemed to be focused more on stealth and support techniques rather than honing her own phisical capabilities. Still, it didn't hurt to be polite.

"Oh my goodness i'm so sorry, are you okay, I didn't hurt you did I?' she asked kneeling to help the elderly woman pick some of her groceries up off of the ground.
The woman smiled, "oh no, dear, I am fine, thank you for your concern." She said, bowing her head slightly in thanks. "I am just glad that my shopping bag wasn't damaged." She added with a laugh, shaking her head, "it is a shame about all of these, though, they were very nice."
Rin nodded, "Let me at least buy you some replacements, it was my fault these were spoiled after all."
The old woman smiled, "oh, I couldn't ask you to do that, dear, I don't think I could afford to replace them." She said, shaking her head.
Rin smiled, "you are most kind and generous, but please, I insist." She said, placing her hand on the old woman's shoulder, "let me help you."
The woman smiled, "I would be honoured, dear." She said, taking the offered hand.
Rin helped the older woman to her feet, "are you sure you are alright?" she asked, looking the woman over again. The woman smiled, "oh, yes, dear, I am fine, it just startled me when you bumped into me, that's all." She said, shaking her head, "it happens sometimes."
Rin nodded, "I suppose it does," she said, "I am really sorry about that."
"Oh, dear, it is quite alright," the woman said, "I'm just glad you are not hurt."
Rin looked down at the ground, "if you say so..." she said, "come, we should get going, Im sure you have a lot to do today, it wouldn't be prudent of me to keep you waiting after spoiling your groceries"
The woman smiled, "oh, dear, I am not worried about my groceries, I will be fine, and besides, I don't have much else to do today, I was planning on just sitting at home with a cup of tea and a good book." The woman said, likely not catching the hint that Rin, whilst she was more than happy to make up for the accident, especially now that funds were ceasing to be such a pressing issue, was still on something of a tight schedule. Still the woman happily took her arm for support and started making her way slowly along the street towards the nearest market.
As they walked, Rin had time to notice how the woman moved, she was very graceful, her movements smooth and unhurried, the woman clearly knew exactly where she was going and where she needed to be, every step she took was precise and well thought out, as though she had done this many times before, and yet she had somehow managed to bumble her way into Rin's path without her noticing, even now she was, spiritually speaking, completely oblivious to the woman's presence.
Rin had to admit that she had never seen anyone move with such grace and poise, even the most skilled and experienced shinobi would have been hard pressed to match the woman's movements, and yet, as she watched the woman move with a grace that was completely unparalelled the woman seemed to ocasionally stumble, her movements falling short of where they should be as she took a step her legs were too short for or her arms too long for, the woman seemed to be a walking contradiction, yet somehow, she never fell, she always found her balance, seeming to be entirely unaware of the fact that she was tripping over her own feet.
***
The old woman led Rin through the crowded market, buying replacements for the spoiled vegetables, picking out fresh ones that she could see would be ready to eat soon and a few other things that she needed, she then paid for her purchases and thanked Rin profusely for her help, bowing deeply.
"It was my pleasure, I am merely happy to have helped atone for my indiscretion, though I'm sure you could have done with some help carrying these in the first place" Rin said, smiling. "Did you need help taking them back to your house?" she asked, gesturing to the bags of groceries that the woman was struggling to carry.
The woman laughed, "oh, no, dear, I am fine, I can manage quite well, it is only a small amount." She said, shaking her head, "I am just a little stiff today, I think I must have slept at an odd angle." the woman said, smiling, "thank you, though, for your kindness, I am sure I will be able to repay you one day."
Rin smiled, "oh nonsense, that is quite alright," she said, continuing to hold the woman's shopping as she walked her out of the market "I am just glad I could help, now lets get these back to your home for you" she said, turning to leave the market.
The woman smiled before muttering something about stubborn youth under her breath and following Rin out of the marketplace, giving the occasional direction when prompted.
The pair wove through the village streets, the old woman rambling off different tidbits about the village absent mindedly as they traveled towards her residence. Rin found herself, perhaps somewhat unwillingly learning new facts about the town, the people who lived there and their daily lives. It was a pleasant distraction from her worries and concerns, and she soon found herself enjoying the conversation.
By the time they reached the old woman's house, Rin had learned quite a bit about the town and its inhabitants and was feeling much more relaxed, the concerns of the previous night and her current problems sitting calmly in the back of her mind as she took this chance for a brief respite from the stress of her life.
"Well, here we are," the woman said, waving to the small house that stood on the outskirts of the town, "thank you again for your help with the shopping, it really wasn't necessary my dear." The elderly woman said, reaching up to grab the bags of various foodstuffs from where Rin held them. Rin let them go, there was no real need to carry them through into the woman's house when it was only a few feet. What caught her attention instead was the woman's garden, what looked like it had once supported a thriving landscape of fruits, vegetables and herbs had become overgrown and infested with weeds, the plants themselves looking sickly and wilted, and the whole area was covered in a thick layer of dust, as if it hadn't been touched in years, deep within some of the more overgrown sections fruit slowly rotted away, the tightly wound brambles and weeds keeping even the animals from feasting upon the over ripened fruit. That was no good, it was perhaps another sign of how poorly this village's ruling class treated its citizens, the woman's land could be kept clean and tidy with only a few hours work a week once it had been returned to a more reasonable state, and yet it had been left to grow out of control, the city reluctant to spend the funds even when it would bring them more food, and perhaps importantly, more good will from the people.
"Oh, don't worry about it, I enjoyed talking to you, and I am happy to help you out whenever I can." Rin said, smiling, "I hope you enjoy the rest of your day, I'll see you around sometime, I'm sure." She said, waving politely to the woman until she had gone inside, waiting until the woman's door had closed before stepping over to her garden, this wouldn't take her long and it would help the woman immensely.

A few moments later Rin had finished tidying up the woman's gardens, and had even gone so far as to find a few chunks of valuable ores and jade that had been cluttering up the garden in odd places. It was quite strange how the winds of fate and karma so often intertwined to gift those who took the time to help others... of course at the same time they loved playing such kindness for fools, she wouldn't make a habit of such things, but it had payed off this time and that was what mattered to her.

Breathing out a deep sigh Rin glanced up from her place at the desk, a deep weariness overcoming her as she realised how long she had spent writing; where before the sun was only just peaking above the clouds now it was well into the noon day sky. The noises of the heavily defended outpost were in full swing and she only just realised how long she had been writing.
