I've Come To Make An Announcement [Open]

It's been three days since Kizmaru Senju's abdication and Murata's been crushingly busy.
Much like her predecessor, many of the elders of Kirigakure are immediately quite concerned with her personal life. An unmarried young woman who goes by a single name? That won't do. Murata conceded on the latter point - taking on a first name is the least of the sacrifices she can make. The first had come to something of a standstill. Being immediately rushed into marriage with some ambitious clan's darling son was too much for her right now, especially with so much on her plate, and she has rebuffed even requests to 'keep her mind open'. The Yuki elder especially seemed wholly irritated, and Murata wonders idly whether Kizmaru's wife would be leaving the village to go with him or if they had in some sense separated at this point.
She'd always thought that the First had done away with the elders, but she sees now that even without a formal council to exercise power through, a leader still needs structures of power and allegiance. In the time after the First's disappearance the clans had organized enough to exercise their influence by the time the young, vulnerable Kizmaru stepped up. It's a wonder the council had not been formally re-established already.
Not far from Murata's new desk, by the drawn curtains of the window, Dreamer shifts his weight in a way that suggests worry or impatience.
"Something on your mind?" Murata asks the ANBU. Murata has not known him for long, but she has a sharp eye and he has a subtle way of communicating that complement one another well.
"We need to be at the station in twenty minutes."
"I did not forget," Murata sighs. Even worse, she's putting it off. Murata leans back in the cozy blue chair and crosses her arms. It's a damn good thing it's so ergonomic or her spine would be reduced to dust by next week. Perhaps she could outfit the First's old office with a standing desk for days she doesn't have meetings... if that ever happens. She could get lots of exercise from that and running up and down the stairs.
Murata picks up the Mizukage's hat and robes from where they hang next to the desk. "Alright. Let's go."
Murata sits at the desk of the radio station, waiting for the go-ahead to begin speaking into the mic. She feels the eyes of the staff appraising her, the first members of the general public to know of her position. There's the go-ahead signal. Murata's eyes go to her written notes, her voice broadcasting across the various radios of the village.
"Good morning," she says. "My name is Sugi Murata."
The name 'Sugi' feels strange on her tongue, but not so alien that she could never get used to it.
Her speech concludes, and is followed by an interview, in which her answers as to politics are non-committal, if truthful. The village hears for the first time the details of the Kage Summit, confirming the rumours going around, although Murata's account is less hostile towards the other Kage than Kizmaru's was. Still, it is an account biased towards Kirigakure's perspective. The Summit was held as an attempt to release Konoha from Kirigakure and talks went all of nowhere.
...then there was a failed assassination attempt by Sunagakure's Ragdoll on the Second Mizukage. This bit of information draws a long pause from the interviewer.
After the interview, Murata steps out of the office, for the first time wearing the hat and robes of her station. A small retinue of photographers and ANBU trail around as she looks out into the village's streets as Mizukage.

Travin had been sitting at his office going over some of the paperwork for the day. Lucky now that he had Rune with him it made the paperwork go by quite easy. It seemed that Rune was quite good with paperwork, and dealing with people as well. To the point that Travin had been using him as a stand-in even for the many meetings, he would normally have to deal with. Freeing up his time for training and dealing with his shinobi affairs. To make matters even better it seemed as though Rune enjoyed the work as it gave him purpose. Unlike Cole who seemed to find fighting to be his hole purpose. Travin had made several notes on the two and came to the agreement with the rest of the clan to give them their freedom as they felt they could be trusted, and together they were a very deadly combo. That the clan could use to their benefit.
Bruce walked into the room and looked over to Travin “Sire it is time” Travin gave Bruce a nod. Knowing what he meant his friend Murata had been named the third Mizukage. An honor to say the least and a position that Travin believed his friend would excel at. “Very well Bruce I will head out immediately. Rune you can come or stay it will be up to you” Travin would tell the two before walking out of the office and over to the elevator to go to the ground floor. In the elevator, Travin thought back on his encounters with both the second Mizukage and his friend now the third Mizukage.
His encounters with Kiz were brief, to say the least, but he saw that the man had worked hard to get to where he was at and had taken every opportunity he could to get there. Something that Travin could respect and could tell that the man truly cared about the village. While his friend Murata was new to the role Travin knew her well enough to know that the village came first for her. Something that Travin also agreed upon with her, and with this realization Travin knew what he would do at the news conference.
Travin took a seat near the front in the VIP section. He watched as Murata walked out on stage and introduced herself to Sugi Murata. Travin was thrown for a loop at first since he didn’t know she had another name other than Murata, but it just goes to show how much you really know about someone. After all, it’s not like he could judge he never told anyone about himself either. He always believed that you didn’t need to know everything about a person to know if you can trust them by their characters alone. He had known about the next part of her becoming the new Mizukage via the Jounin and anbu grapevine. He didn’t know if anyone below jounin had heard though and could tell from the looks on the people’s faces that it had been a fairly well-kept secret throughout the village, but what more do you expect from a village full of shinobi whose job is to keep secrets.
Travin listened to her honer Kizmaru for the work he had done for the village raising it back up out of an almost wasteland to what it is today. However, this was the first time Travin had gotten confirmation on what happened at the Kage summit. Before he realized it his chakra was flaring slightly as were several others within the crowd who was angry at the fact that Kenshin would try and assassinate their Mizukage. An act that Travin knew could not go unanswered, and he would look for any chance he could get to get vengeance for this act even without orders.
Once everyone was done with the questions or was told they were done anyways, Travin knew the questions never stop. Murata and her Anbu team walked out of the radio station and looked down on the streets of Kiri. Travin made a few handseals and teleported to the other side of the crowd, as he knew it was a bad idea to just appear next to the new Mizukage especially after everyone just found out about the assassination attempt on the second. Travin would walk over to the Anbu escorting the Mizukage and wave at her “I’m Travin Rentei head of the Rentei clan May I speak to the Mizukage” he would ask the anbu closest to him.
If Travin was allowed to approach the new Mizukage he would walk up in front of her, and kneel down in the street. “Lord Mizukage, I hear by swearing my loyalty to you and the village, as well as that of my clan. We are your weapon against our enemies and you need not fear to use us” he would tell her. With all seriousness in his tone as he looked into the face of his friend and now leader of the entire village. Murata would be able to see that Travin meant every word and would never turn down a mission from her.

"Can you find the golden pearl?" It was with that offer a game was afoot. That old man with tanned salt scarred skin. The retired sailor had captivated Yuri with the offer of potential winnings. It was a small and simple bet with potentially big winnings. Just four hundred Ryo for the chance to win a golden pearl. She'd never heard of such a thing, but she'd heard of black pearls and white pearls so her interest was piqued.
The game was set, a simple wooden tables, three half shells set up as cups to hide the shell. The old man was on one side, and Yuri was on the other. At the side of the street they play, trying to avoid blocking the traffic. The old man began, hiding the pearl under the leftmost cup. It became a flurry of Swift movement. Slides and half circles, cup switches and every single sleight of hand trick in the book. So enthralling she wasn't even paying attention to the whole thing of the new Mizukage.
"GOT IT!"
Her arm lashes out, forcing the sailor to howl as she grabs his right arm across the table, raising it up. The golden pearl flying out of his sleeve with a disheveled shock as it flew through the air and into her empty hand. Turning her head to look at the pearl, and finally noticing the important looking the event. Letting the man go, she turns to watch with an awkward look on her face as.

The sailor was already fleeing, the four hundred Ryo and the table already grabbed. Yuri's jaw dropping at the brazen retreat. Her heart sunk, though she couldn't explain why until she saw a little fault in the pearls golden surface. Unwrapping it revealing a ball of chocolate.
"HEY!" She yells, indignant as she turns towards the fleeing sailor and stamping her feet. A chill goes down her spine as she remembers she had important people passing by. Though they probably didn't notice her. Yeah, probably. That was what she was thinking as she turns back to watch them. They probably didn't even notice her doing all that. This was super important and she was just a kid. Yeah they definitely didn't notice. That was what she was thing herself.

Murata turns in anticipation of Travin, sensing his chakra incoming. A murmur goes through the small crowd. The ANBU before Travin inclines their head and allows him to pass, Murata already looking expectantly to her young friend.
"Kirigakure deeply appreciates the loyalty of the Rentei Clan as always," Murata says. She understands now why Kizmaru looked so awkward about the formalities, but understands the social function of it. It's good for her politically for the heads of the major clans to be seen publicly pledging their service. Murata motions to Travin that he may rise. "Walk with me!"
Just as the retinue begins to move once more (presumably with Travin in tow), a scruffy sailor barrels past with hurried apologies, and one of their genin darts past in hot pursuit. Murata looks after them and leans down to rest her palm on the ground, a red wolf appearing next to her in a puff of smoke. Adzuki looks around with an expression of interest, wagging his tail at the attention as a few photographers snap pictures.
"What's the situation?" Adzuki asks, tilting his head curiously. Murata stands and inclines her head to the running genin and sailor.
"Make sure everything is alright with them, please."
"Yes ma'am!"
Adzuki follows after Yuri at a rapid clip, and Murata continues on her way, hoping there isn't anything too serious going on.
"Everything going alright for you and the family?" Murata asks Travin amicably, resting her hands in the pocket of her coat underneath her robes.
Adzuki quickly catches up with Yuri, the red wolf looking askance to her with friendly eyes.
"Good morning, young master of Kirigakure! Who are we chasing?"

Travin stood once more once he was told to by his once friend and now the leader of the entire village. He was proud to be one of if not the first to swear his allegiance, and couldn’t be happier for his friend, as a smile broke his face when she asked him to walk with her. “It would be my honor Lord Mizukage” he would tell Murata with a grin, as he took a spot slightly behind her and to her right. While he didn’t know if this was something new for Murata or not, as neither of them had ever really sat down and talked about their past, having everyone looking and questions thrown at him was nothing new for Travin. He didn’t really care for it and was the reason why he was grooming Rune to take over the family business, but it was something that you got used to. Granted the crowd was never this big, but he was not the MIzukage that just gave massive news to most if not the entire village.
They hadn’t walked long when a scruffy sailor and a genin barrel passed them. It was something that took most of everything that Travin had not to stop on the spot, but he was in the light of the people and standing next to what the people needed to believe was the most powerful shinobi in the village, and while Travin had never fought against Murata he knew her strength as they had done several mission together, and he knew she was no pushover. However, in this situation, it was best to allow her to handle the two. Which she did by summoning a red wolf in the middle of the crowd and sending it off to make sure that everything was fine. Not the way Travin would have done it, but probably a lot better of a way than Travin would have done it as well. Seeing how Travin would have probably grabbed the both of them and lifted them into the air by their throats with his snakes and calmly asked them what they thought they were doing. Giving that it was probably better that he let the new Mizukage handle it.
With the red wolf taking off after the two the group started to move once more. While walking down the streets Murata would look over and ask if everything was going alright with his family. Taking a single moment to answer “Yes, we have a few new clansmen from out of town join the main branch of the clan in Kiri. I’m working with one of them who seems to have a great interest in business so that he can handle the day-to-day while I work for the village, and the other is showing great interest and understanding in combat. I’m hoping to mold him into a powerful soldier for the village.” Travin would tell Murata as he looked around at the people. While they were both covered by Anbu Travin still didn’t like the feeling of everyone watching them with so many vantage points. “How are you liking being Mizukage so far” he would ask as he looked around at the roofs and alleyways.

"PUPPY!" That was it, the fastest way possible to get Yuri to split her focus from the pocket change she'd been robbed of was a dog. The frown on her face quickly swapping to a goofy grin as she stops and takes a knee. A bit too familiar as she nods.
"I was doing a little game with that old man but he tricked me and ran off with my money so I'm chasing hi-" The problem was she'd stopped. The old man had taken the chance to disappear, though he couldn't of gotten far, he was still just an old man. "Well I lost him now. Though..." Was it really more important than Adzuki "It's only a few hundred Ryo, plus he didn't seem like a bad guy, he probably had a good reason if he stole it. Though where did you come from?"
She stands up, resting her arms behind her head, and turns around going back to that whole presentation thing or whatever. She wasn't paying the most attention to anything besides the word 'Mizukage'.

"Glad to hear it," Murata says cheerfully. That would be the two new Rentei genin, then. Hopefully their development will be fruitful and allow Travin plenty of time to attend to his various responsibilities. He is one of the people in the village who is just as busy as she is. "Well, nothing dramatically bad has happened so far. It's been lots of reading and lots of meetings. Speaking of, I'll be calling a meeting of the Jounin and ANBU this Friday to discuss the state of the village. I'll be sending out an official notice shortly, but please let Gonk know."
There has been quite a lot of whispering in her ear about what to do with aggression from the other villages. She'd like some discussion that isn't behind closed doors, especially now that news is out in the open of Sunagakure's moves against them.
Down the street, Adzuki quirks his head curiously at Yuri's distraction. He stops when she does, though he looks a bit put out that they have stopped.
"Still, so dishonorable to steal from a young girl!" The wolf dips his nose to the ground and sniffs about the alleyway with a look of intense focus. "I have his scent now. If I ever catch it again, so help me...!"
He walks with Yuri back towards the street. Murata and Travin have moved a small ways forwards, but they are still within eyeshot, with the crowd murmuring behind them in their wake, discussing their impressions of the new Mizukage.
"I was summoned by my Lady to see to it that you weren't in trouble! Do you have further needs of my services?" he asks, looking up to her attentively.

It was as Travin figured nothing too crazy just yet, mostly just meetings. However, a village meeting with the anbu and jounin of the village was pretty big news. It seemed as though his old friend was not wasting any time in getting straight down to business. “I will let him know” Travin would tell Murata. As they continued to walk down the street, he was starting to wonder just where they were going as no one seemed to quite know just yet as far as he could tell, but the road was blocked off, so someone had to know.
Travin thought about Gonk for a few minutes as they walked. He hadn’t really seen hi friend in a while, but he knew that he was busy with clan stuff, and Travin was waiting to see when and if he would need help. Travin would keep his ears open for anything that the Mizukage would have to say as well, and he was also curious as to what happened to those two people that she sent that fox after as well.

"Relax, I'm sure he had a good reason, though it's a bit worrying if he felt he couldn't just ask for money, I wonder what his deal was. We had people like that where I was from, though they were a bit different, too proud so they'd basically do all the odd jobs for money, though people were more generous than they'd usually be to make up for it. You know how it is, accidentally slipping more pay than you agree on right?"
It was more the shock than anything else that made her react like that, and honestly a bit of curiosity about what his situation was...though she shouldn't try to pry.
"Can you tell me about your lady? Since I won't get the chance to see her I'm kinda curious what she's like and all."
Engaging in a bit of casual following, as she tries to catch up to and follow behind the Kage apparent and the hanger ons.

It soon becomes apparent that the little group is traveling towards the Mizukage's estate. As they near the gate by the hill the hanger-ons begin to disperse, the ANBU murmuring that the Kage and her subordinates have quite a lot of work to get to and she will be able to answer more questions at a later time. Murata lingers by the gate to briefly talk to a few more people before turning to bring Travin with her to the estate to speak more privately.
"I've sent a letter to Kumogakure to arrange a meeting. I believe that they are our best option for having a friendly neighbor going forward," she says as they head through the courtyard, sighing. "I understand the importance of self-sufficiency, but being left with no allies in the world by Aloide was a bit unnecessary... if the Raikage is agreeable, I'd like to send a handful of our Genin over for some friendly competition. Cloud did very well in the exams, I think it would be good for our own to train with such talented kids."
Murata's words are delivered with a confidence in her own vision, but she addresses Travin as a friend and confidante, leaving herself obviously open for his advice and input.
Meanwhile, not far away...
"From where you're from? You aren't from Kiri? Hey, I'll tell you a secret, I'm not either!" Adzuki chatters to Yuri as they walk, tail wagging. "I like her. She gives me good cuts of meat when she summons me, and she treats me with just as much respect as she does my big siblings," he says, raising his chin proudly, quite clearly believing that he obviously deserves as much. "C'mon, I'll take you to say hi!"
While Travin and Murata are still walking through the courtyard in the shadow of the estate, Adzuki arrives with his charge, the ANBU allowing him and Yuri to pass through the gate to join them.
"I have brought her, safe and sound! This young one was troubled by a thief, but it's taken care of!" Adzuki reports, sitting down in attention as Murata blinks in surprise at the company, making brief eye contact with Travin to see if he recognizes the genin that's dropped into their lap.
"Thanks, Adzuki. Go find Goro, he'll grab something for you," Murata says to the wolf, giving him an affectionate but professional pat on the head. The wolf nods farewell to Yuri and trots happily off to see to his reward, and Murata addresses her, relaxed and casual. "Everything alright? I don't think we've met!"
