Scorched Earth

Mission:

Mizuki had spent the morning, not preparing herself for her normal guard duty, but for a dirtier job - pulling weeds. It had taken everything in her to not rip the mission in half when she had been given it earlier that week; what on earth was she doing miniscule gardening tasks for residents who usually gave her a wide berth in town as if she would launch an attack at any moment. She scoffed at her reflection in the mirror as she tied her hair up in a knot - thus keeping the long tendrils from getting in the way as she was crouching and bending over the earth. She dressed in simple black clothing - nothing to constricting as this wasn’t about increased mobility as it was comfort - she gave herself one last look, the faint scars showing where the clothing didn’t quiet cover but she averted her gaze quickly; she looked normal enough even if she was still dressed in all black. Not bothering to lock the door behind her she headed to the site indicated on the scroll - East side of the grove neighborhood garden center. Suppressing an internal groan she made her way there with ease.

The place was flooded with volunteers and school aged children running around with gardening tools, covered in dirt - Mizu clamped her mouth closed, avoiding their paths and swallowed hard as she found someone who looked to be in charge; at least the clipboard made it seem so. She was directed to a patch of ground that looked the most overgrown… she couldn’t help but notice she was the only one assigned to this section while everyone else was clustered together while they worked.

With a slight frown she turned from her observations - if they so chose to avoid her even when she was actively helping their cause then so be it. Her attention was now focused on the patch she had been assigned, she lowered herself gracefully down to her knees and began ripping up the weeds and root systems left by whatever plant life used to inhabit this earth. Even with the temperature controlled the sun that beat down on her exposed skin made her uncomfortable - it had been a long time since she so much as showed any skin besides her hands and face, having always worn conservative albeit tight fitting clothing.

She could hear the comradery being formed behind her, the bond that a days hard work could do to bring people together and gritted her teeth - irritated. Who said she had to stay here and take this? All she had to do was clear her area and be done right? Her hands paused mid-motion before they dropped onto her knees and rubbed themselves free of dirt before she stood and surveyed the area around her. It was much smaller than any of the range of jutsu she had at her disposal but, why not speed the process up a bit? Taking a deep breath in she focused her chakra in the pit of her stomach and felt it grow hotter until she spewed a thin line of fire out of her mouth in a half circle - lighting the entire area she had been assigned- on fire. Finally she stood up, the heat of the flames now encompassing the area and devouring what had been left of the vegetation - simply watching the flames dance for a bit before performing a few simple hand seals and extinguishing the flames with a small wave of suiton.

Her ability to switch between the two natures became easier than when she had first learned it - finally with her head held indignantly up she turned and left the area to go collect her payment at the mission office, giving not a second look back at the now absolutely silent group.
