Soma Shin woke up early this morning for what he thought was going to be a relaxing day. He is going to be on the first response team today. So as long as nothing bad happens today he will be ok to take it easy today. Maybe get in some training and some relaxing. He lazily gets out of bed. Finds his outfit and his headband. He walks downstairs to the kitchen to make himself some eggs for breakfast. He eats his eggs then packs his lunch. He cleans up the kitchen and says bye to his grandfather who wishes him luck on the day. “Good luck Soma Shin, Make sure to keep an eye out, you are on the first response team today.” Soma Shin replies “Of course Grandfather, I will not do anything that would cause embarrassment to the Misaki clan.” “That is not what I am worried about, just be careful and protect Hoshigakure.” Soma Shin took these words to heart and reconsidered his stance on taking it easy today. He would instead of taking it easy today work on either training or just patrolling around the village. Soma Shin says bye to his parents and other clansmen around the house. He headed to the city square to start patrolling around the village of Hoshigakure. Soma Shin was very excited to be give the opportunity and the responsibility of being on the first response team. He thought that it was honor to be given this assignment especially being as young as he was and a new Genin. He thought it was strange that they would give it to someone who is more experienced. He wants to make sure to prove to his superiors that he can not only handle this mission but excel at it and be all that they expect him to be. He knows that his family is expecting a lot from him and that he needs to live up to their standards in order for his grandfather to teach him new techniques needed so that Soma Shin can be the best shinobi that he can.
Soma Shin started his patrolling at the palace. But nothing seemed to be happening and he thought nothing could go wrong today. He helped some people find things around town. Directing them to attractions or restaurants that are in Hoshigakure. He had lead a few people to the marketplace. He had taken a few to different places like some of the gardens around town. He would stick around the palace looking for anything that was wrong or out of place. He had to help a few people here and there but overall today seemed to be going great. He felt great helping out villagers he had gained a lot of confidence since becoming a Genin he would have never just gone up and talked to strangers before. He knew that being a shinobi not only meant protecting the village when needed but also meant helping everyone when he could in the village.
After the palace he went over to where all the temples and churches are. He did not really like to go to this area very much. The church and the shinobi have a rocky history and the people of faith always gave shinobi dirty looks. Soma Shin thought to himself though that he cannot choose who is worthy of his strength in the village. Even if the people of the church hated him because of what his family and he can do. He knew that it was not only the right thing to do but it was also something that would make his grandfather proud of what he has learned about the village and about being kind to all.
As he was finishing up walking around the temples and churches he decided he would head towards where the markets are. It was getting to be about the middle of the day so he thought he should find a place to sit down and eat. He had packed his lunch before he left his house this morning and was excited to eat the ham sandwiches that he had made. He would head over to a park bench for lunch when all of a sudden he saw something in the distance. What could it be? Is that smoke? Is someone fighting because it was most definitely smoke. Soma Shin knew he had to check it because it was not coming from the training grounds area so something was on fire. Soma Shin stood up and rushed towards the market district which is where the smoke seemed to be coming from. Soma Shin had to run faster than he has ever run before. He gets to the market area and starts looking around quite frantically and wondering where it was coming from. He quickly jumps on the roofs and starts to follow the smoke till he finally gets to the area and sees the flames of the building.
Soma Shin was the first Shinobi to show up on the scene. He sees people yelling and screaming. Soma Shin yells “Everyone, I need you to calm down and please evacuate in a calm and orderly fashion. We need to get a bucket line formed and start trying to put this fire out. Please if you can lift a bucket form a line to the well and start passing it down till it gets here. I will start looking for people inside and get them out.” This did nothing to calm down people. They were still panicking but there were some who were starting to bring buckets of water and pour it onto the store trying to put out the flames where they can. Soma Shin goes into the building. He sees tables and a little girl. This little girl was under a table screaming “Help my mom has gone to sleep and will not wake up. Help her please. I cannot lose my mom.” Soma Shin rushes over and puts the moms arm around his neck. He slow starts walking towards the door “Come on, I have your mom we can get out of here.” He walks them out as fast as he can but he had to move slow enough that the little girl could get out too. He gets them outside and lays the mother down and checks her pulse. “She is alive, just passed out.” He tells the little girl then continues she will be alright then makes the hand symbols in rapid succession. His hands start to glow with chakra and he puts his hands on the mother and heals her slightly. He healed her enough that she opens her eyes and is able to get up and move. “Please hurry home.” The mother hugs Soma Shin and kept saying “ Thank you, Thank you so much for saving my daughter's life.” And the little girl says “thank you mister for saving my mommy”. Soma Shin rushes back in and checks to see if anyone else is around there. He was looking for any sign of life. He did see someone else in the small restaurant so he went back outside to see what was going one. Soma Shin had to think fast about how to save the stores and restaurants around them.
A group of villagers are still forming a chain. They lower the buckets down the well and try to get it to the fire as fast as possible. Soma Shin can tell that this method is going to take too long to accomplish the goal of putting out the fire. The longer he thinks about it the higher the chances of a building around him catching fire and spreading further into the village. He was very worried about the village and did not want to cause a lot of property damage but he was very unsure what to do. He started to think of techniques he might be able to use in order to put this fire out quickly and without destroying a lot of buildings. He was also worried about hurting some of the other citizens in the area. He was curious how long it had been since he had shown up and why there were no other shinobi yet. He thought of a technique, it is not one that he had much practice with but it is no or never if he is going to save what is left and put out this fire. He needed to get the area just right and make sure not to get any of the other buildings with this technique. “Everyone please step away from the building! I am going to try to use a technique to put the fire out in one go. Please step away to avoid getting injured or put in any sort of danger!” Soma Shin watched as the people around him started to scatter. He gathered his thoughts and calmed himself and that is where he started to make hand signs boar then he touched the ground. All of a sudden the earth started to flip and turn upward around the area that the flames were at. The building started to crumble even more and get buried by the earth that was turning and flipping around. Eventually the whole building came down and was smothered by the earth that Soma Shin moved. Smoke snuck it’s way through the cracks of the earth. All you could see now was earth broken up all over where the restaurant used to be. Smoke was still bellowing out but all the flames had finally subsided and Soma Shin was able to control the technique enough to save the stalls and buildings around him. “What have you done to my stall?!?” A man comes up yelling at Soma Shin “ I am sorry sir but I had to stop the fire from spreading. This was the best I could do with my abilities”. The older gentleman walked away obviously still angry but the other salesmen, cooks, and shopkeepers came up and thanked Soma. This made him feel like he did a good job and a good deed for not only the village but it was something that would make his family proud.
Soma Shin was very tired after this but he still had to do his job for the rest of the day. He finished his day continuing to patrol around. He continues through the market and through the watery gardens. He saw some shinobi training and some people at the gazebo. He was very relieved that the rest of the day went smoothly. He went to report what happened during his patrol to his superiors and to find out what his next mission would be. He hoped he would get a few days rest and would have time to do some more training. He was proud of himself and the abilities that he showed off today. He went home afterwards and sat down for dinner with his family. He talked to his grandfather and told him about what had happened today. “Soma Shin you did not only make the village proud but the family. You will make a fine shinobi and a fine Misaki.” These words resonated in Soma Shin’s head “thank you grandfather.” These words stuck with him for a while even after he had gone to bed. He knew that if he got his grandfather's approval soon he would get the misaki clan’s approval and they would be ready to show him some of the crystal techniques that are special to his clan. This idea of him being able to use the clan's techniques got Soma Shin’s blood pumping it as always been his dream that he could use it. He wanted to learn to help people and be able to defend his family and his village no matter the enemy. He knew that if he could master his grandfather's techniques he would be a great asset at the battlefields and for Hoshigakure in general.
