Sakana's First Chuunin Exam Empty Sakana's First Chuunin Exam

Mon Jun 05, 2017 9:01 pm
One. Two. Three. Four. Pause. One. Two. Three. Four. Pause. This was the rhythm of Komorgi’s breathing. Sakana had just laid in bed listening to him for an hour or so, waiting in anticipation for his first official chuunin exam. No more preliminaries, no more training for now, the day has come and there was no turning back. Well technically he could but where was the honor in that. He was dead set on becoming as high ranking as he could  and the next stage in his journey was chuunin, after that jounin and then… well who knows what could happen by then. Heck maybe Sakana will not even make it that far, kumo is the land of the warlords and if he’s learned anything from his reading is that, while the empire will grow for a while, all great things come to an end eventually. It might not be tomorrow or even in his life time but it will happen.

Sakana had only been back to the village for a few weeks but it kind of felt like forever, he missed his friends but he made some knew ones to fill the void. The past few days had felt like adventures, the first day he journeyed into the kumo mountains, upon arriving he met Ao, a tiny talking turtle. One thing led to another and long story short, Sakana can now call on ninja turtles to aid him in battle, plus he has some exploring to do now that he wants himself to become the turtle master. And while that was a long term goal it actually seemed possible in the moment. And after that heartfelt day came a fun one. The Meijin and his stolen dog became mailmen for a day, doing a civilian job for the good of the village. Both these experiences were amazing but they weren’t ninja related, this chuunin exam today was ninja related. It would be one of the deciding factors in his future.

And then the biggest thing of his life happened, the previous night. It was the last night he was normal. The Meijin was chosen to pick up a package, but unknowingly to him him the package was a giant turtle that weighed a couple of tons, and now since Komori placed it inside him, it was his responsibility to control this thing, which is apparently really evil. Thank God it was still sleeping inside him, Komon and Senshi must have really hurt this thing bad to put it in this deep of a slumber. But he could feel it inside him, it’s mass amount of chakra at bay, he was terrified of what would happen when it awaked. Hopefully it stayed asleep  for the rest of the day, he really needed this chuunin exam to go well. Sakana knew he had to bring Komorgi back to Komori some time soon since the chuunin missed his dog, but he wanted to hold onto him just a bit longer.

Alas, he did need to wake up and get a move on for the day. As he moved he felt weird, like he was controlling two people at once instead of just himself since his chakra is totally different than the bijuu. Feeling different was not a foreign feeling to Sakana, he was an outsider from the day his parents dropped him off in the village with nothing but his name. Since he was used to the feeling it made all this a little easier, and since not many ninja knew about this, he should be able to try and be normal to the outside public. Since he was off to a chuunin exam he threw on the standard shinobi gear and grabbed all his gear, he needed to be ready for anything since the last exam was fighting. Once he had it all he headed out the door, with his painter set slung over his shoulder, as well as his katana and his pack that had all his smaller gear in it.

As he walked he thought about the power inside him, on one hand he was supposed to train it as soon as possible, but on the other he didn't want it to be cause him any trouble today. As long as he didn’t make a scene it should be fine. The path to the testing center was always a long boring trip, he was usually alone with his thoughts while traveling. At first he wondered what this bijuu sounds like, what its been through, why it tried to destroy the village and so many other question. Like what would happen when he would be able to harness its power? Would Sakana turn into a turtle? He sure hoped not, he was pretty lucky he did get a turtle who used water style though, what if he got the fire cat he had read about? That would’ve sucked since he can’t use any other element than water. He walked into the building that looked like every freaking testing center building, they all had blonde women working there too, they all looked alike, like the nurse joy’s in pokemon. This exam was a special one they told him, there was no need for his ninja tools which made him sigh since in relief since  this wasn’t a fighting exam. This exam was stated to be a genjutsu exam, where he would find out his true passion for wanting to serve the village. So he walked into the room, the only thing different about these training buildings was the rooms inside them. The first was a maze, the second a environmental terrain, the third a small room and this one a blank room. This exam would also probably be really beneficial for himself since he didn't really want to know what he wanted to when he got older.  Maybe he would be a teacher, maybe he would be raikage, maybe he would be a solider or maybe something else. He really had no idea but he was going to find out.

So he was told to go sit in the middle with his legs crossed and it would start so he listened. Once he sat down he closed his eyes and his world started to swirl.

As he opened his eye he was on a boat, on the sea. The it was actually a storm. Each crashing wave would rock the boat, little by little. Sakana would look down and notice that his clothes were different, he was wearing an admiral's uniform, which probably meant he was in the navy. So was this what he was meant to be in life, an admiral of a boat? He wondered if this is actually what he wanted since he wasn't a fan of being on the front lines. All around him were other sailors (probably his crew) who were using buckets to try and get water off the ship to stop it from sinking. Sakana looked out onto the ocean. Even in this big storm he felt so alive. Maybe it was his bloodline inside him but the water just felt so natural. At this time he would have casper white skin, baby blue eyes and deep deep blue hair. Thank god his disease was not harmfull or he probably would have been dead already, instead his bloodline made him feel empowered. So after thinking over the water he looked around at the sailors trying to get the water off the boat.   While he known he should help them he knew this wasn’t real so it didn’t totally matter, he walked inside operations deck in the ship, he saw a world map on the wall along with a note on the deck. The note read:

“Dear Admiral Meijin,

You have been tasked with traveling around the globe to go to each country and try to set up diplomatic relations in hopes of expanding our trade routes. This is a non hostile mission, but you may use force if needed to protect yourself.  “

That was the gist of the message. There were some more details telling of what route he was to take and the different protocols for different encounters. So that was one way in how he was to serve the village. It was kind of what he imagined it would it would be like but there was some twists to it. Like even though he was able to explore he was still on a mission for his village which was a good compromise so he would probably get to explore officially and maybe even get paid for it down the line. That was a fair deal especially since it looked like he wanted to be tasked with a crew. Maybe he didn’t want himself to be alone after all. Not that any of that was real but the thought of it all was nice. That was the key to all of this, none of it was real but it was all supposed to seem real, to show what you wanted your future to be like or what what position you think you would be forced into. This is what he wanted to do he was sure of it. He wanted to travel the world, revisit places like Ame and venture into the shadow lands if he was ever daring enough. He would meet so many people, many take on a few apprentices. His ship would be something he was very proud of though, it didn’t have a name yet but it was going to be amazing. Made from the strongest metal, the sail shined from the finest silk with the kumo symbol etched inside it. Then there were the defenses, cannons, bombs and some special chakra weapons sat ready to destroy their next victims. While he was looking for a peaceful journey, he wasn’t stupid he would have a weapons as a method of defense for himself and his crew. He wasn’t about to let him or his comrades die. His boat seemed perfect in his head but he would need to be at least jounin rank and rich to buy it. He would have a lot of missions to do in the future since he was going to need an insane amount of ryo to have his boat built, plus he would need gear to be able to survive on his own on the mainland. This boat would be his baby, and he would only pick the best crew to take care of her. And if he was a team leader of some gennin he would make sure to show them how to take care of the boat in case something bad would happen to him and they would need to take over his legacy But that really was enough thinking over things like that. He was here to serve his village and become a chuunin not worry about a boat and the time of his death which he hoped was not anytime soon. .

After he finished fantasizing about his boat Sakana would wonder if the exam would be done here. He seemed to know what he wanted to do and wondered if he should dispel it. Although not probably not the best idea he headed outside in order to see the progress with the storm. But as he headed outside he found no storm, or even a ship deck instead the scenery turned rural environment. The ship doors were replaced by military green tent flaps. All around him were tents, this meant he was probably on a battlefield. It reminded him of his time at the village hidden in the rain but he could tell this was a different place because there was no rain. He walked around for a bit not knowing what to do in this situation. Was he supposed to fight someone? That seemed rather pointless for a genjutsu. So he walked around confused for a bit longer, he took in his surroundings to see if he could determine where he was in, the climate was on the hotter side, the terrain was a bit rugged but nothing out of the ordinary, until he saw something that gave it away. Around one hundred or so birds would fly in the distance. Sakana was in the land of birds. Which naturally meant it stank really bad of bird umm poop all around him.  Not that scenery mattered to the main point of this anyway but the poor Meijin did not know that and what he did not know could not hurt him. But what was the main point of this seemingly pointless battle scene? Sakana would walk to the nearest soldier to try and find out. As he approached him the man seemed to be a little afraid as he bowed to the Meijin. And he asked if he was ready for the battle the next day since, he admitted he was a little nervous due to being posted on the front lines and wondered if Sakana had any tips to calm his never. The Gennin was confused about a few things, first being why he was being bowed down, second why this man was asking him for war advice and third why were they placing gennin on the front lines now. All these questions were answered when Sakana saw his reflection in a puddle, he was older much older and he was wearing a jounin patch on his war uniform. This would have had to mean that he was promoted in some time, and explained why the chuunin was bowing to him and asking him war advice, and why he was to be on the front lines. Sakana just told the man to be careful and to make sure to help your comrades as that was probably going to be the most important thing on a battlefield. He was still really confused though as to why this was apart of his chuunin exam. He figured that maybe he would be a leader one day and maybe that’s how he would serve the village but that just seemed so generic. Like why would that be his examination?  There was no reason to fret though, Sakana knew he would be able to dispel the genjutsu on his control so he had no time constraint. It also occurred to him that everyone on the outside world, his proctors could see him now, they could see his confusion. He needed to figure out what he was doing here if he was to pass the examination.

He started to wonder around, nearing the edge of the camp, until he saw one tent that stood out for him, actually in a classic game objective type of way, he saw a gold beam shooting over this tent. Well that was a big enough of a hint. So he tried to walk over, but he was burdened by many tents and anxious shinobi on the way. There was a mix of smells in the air, some of sweat, some of blood, and the worst being the stench of death. Since he was thinking really hard and not paying much attention he lost his footing and fell into the mud in front of him, he was filthy. So this simulation made up in his head was a huge war, Sakana wondered why he would think up a war since he hated wars, but maybe it was because in his head, in knew in some sense or another that he was not going to be able to run from fighting forever. And he would eventually need to stop running and face the terrors. Upon nearing the tent he saw that it was much larger than the other ones and seemed to have symbols of power on it, it was either the leaders tent or the operations tent. Normally he would go out of his way to avoid these sort of things but not today, today he was literally here to discover his future. The glowing light seemed to fade away as he stood in front of the tent. He started to push his way inside. The first thing he saw was a huge board with a map off the layout of the land. It was like the classic movie trope where they use little red and blue figures to signify where the enemies were in relation to us. But what surprised Sakana more was the familiar face standing over the model. It was the Jounin Senshi.

So that meant this was obviously the operations tent since Senshi was on the path of a leader when they last encountered each  other and he was more than capable of war as seeing as he took down one of the legendary tailed beast with the help of Komon. Finally someone could explain to him why he was here and what was happening. The Meijin started to converse with Senshi about the war strategy and the Meijin just kind of went along with everything until Senshi called the boy their secret weapon. Sakana was confused for a few moments until he finally understood what this meant. What this whole war simulation meant. The bijuu, Sakana had almost forgot about it since it had been sleeping since he got it, was the key. That was also why Senshi was here. He had told him due to Sakana being a jin he had immense power. And even mentioned in their previous real world encounter that  he would be the village's best fighting chance against enemies and he had figured it out. That is why this part of the simulation was a war to show that he would be the villages warrior in battle once he had managed to train the beast inside of himself. That was a long time in the future though. As he was about to leave Senshi told him to use the chakra cleanse technique to get all the mud off of him self. As a jounin he would most definitely have that technique but since he was a genin he had not gotten around to training that yet. Now was probably the time to do it then. He focused his chakra and imagined all the dirt just flying off him. He did the hand seal and try the jutsu. But he was surprised to see the dirt still on himself as he tried. He had forgotten how hard it was to learn regular techniques since he was so in tune with water jutsu these days. It took a different type of thinking to use regular chakra than water chakra, especially since he was a Meijin and the more he trained at this power the more it helped him with water techniques. There was no doubt in saying once he trained his Meijin abilities further he would be the strongest water style user in the village. So he had to try again. This time Sakana closed his eyes and focused on the expelling the dirt from his body. He raised his hand to use the hand seal and focused really hard until he felt he would be able to do it so he performed the hand seal and watched as all the dirt flew off from his body. Sakana thought about himself in that moment. He was at a disadvantage in war due to his bloodline but he would be able to wreck pretty much anyone except earth style users with his water chakra fire style users would not even really have a fair chance against him. But that was not why he was to be a valued soldier. He was to be a soldier because he was thought to be able to dominate battlefields with the power that Komori had sealed inside him. He had heard tales of the bijuu destroying villages before and he had that power inside him. He as on the front lines because he was supposed to crush down their strongest opponents like they were nothing.  That was a tough task for the kid to handle at the moment but he knew in time he would be able to master the power and be a powerful ninja, but for now he would settle with the beast just staying asleep inside him. After all he was a giant turtle and turtles did sleep a lot. As Sakana had watched Ao sleep for almost 24 hours straight once before.

As Sakana walked out of the tent the scenery changed again.

This time he was in the grand mountains of kumogakure. As he looked around and saw the trees, and the incline of the mountain he knew exactly where he was at this time. He was around his turtle friends. Making his way out of the forest behind him he headed towards the camp in which he had first meet his turtle friends. But instead of just the kumo turtles being there, there were a lot of turtles, from all different nations and lands. Sakana wondered why they had all gathered there. He started to walk at a moderate pace to try and get towards the grand tent where Xo lived in the hopes of finding Xo and many Zo too. He started to investigate the turtles around him. There was one turtle, he had red skin and steam coming out of his nose, he must have been from the land of volcano. That was odd, Sakana wondered what they were all doing there. Looking around he saw some more turtles, mainly adults since the children probably stayed home for safety reasons. The most surprising thing to Sakana was that the turtles seemed perfectly fine to see a human around, there was none of those shy timid looks he got when he was first here. Some of the turtles actually seemed to smile at him which was actually pretty weird. And once again there was that glowing light over Zo’s tent. Thanks he thought to himself as if he was not going there already. He skirmished his way toward the tent, looking around him he saw so many different symbols on the turtles backs indicating that they were from numerous amounts of different nations. He saw the symbol for snow and wind and many others. He still wondered what they were all doing in kumogakure and more importantly why they were all happy and not fighting like their rivalries he had heard so much about in the past before. All around he saw young and old turtles talking, male and female. Any combination you could think of, they were there. And they seemed really happy, like someone had taken their crappy lives and turned them upside down for the better. Sakana  was having a tough time figuring out what this part of his brain was trying to show him so he started to head to Zo’s tent a little faster. This time he made sure to watch his step and not fall in the mud like before, although now he could expel the dirt off himself using the chakra cleanse.

As he neared the tent he saw Ao hanging out and talking to a bunch of the other little turtles. He almost stopped to say hi but the kid looked so happy and he really did not want to be the one to take that smile off his face. So he entered the the tent, and upon arriving inside not only did he find Zo and Xo like he planned but he also saw all a bunch of other turtles inside. He assumed these were all the clan heads and second in commands. Upon arrival he was greeted by all of them, like they had all known his name. Like he had done something important.

After some conversing he found out he had done something important, the reason all those turtles were there was because he had united all of them. In his expedition he made trade routes and brought all the turtle tribes together. This must have been a personal goal in the genjutsu exam since this did not benefit the village much. Maybe for surveillance or something like that but there was no way to be sure. Anyway he felt that he was was most likely done in this region since he saw what he could accomplish so he exited the tent.

Once again the scene changed. This time he found himself in a familiar place. The Kumogakure Academy. And he was walking into a class room. That is when he saw a bunch of academy students jump out of their seats and greeted him as Sensi. Oh boy, that meant he was a teacher.   Sakana had always imagined being a teacher as a back up profession if none of the other ones worked out. So while it was an unlikely option it was still an option. The board said Suiton 101, which meant he was here to teach this young students water style Jutsu. He probably would be the best choice to teach water style things anyway since his bloodline and all. So the best way to show water style jutsu was outside so the Meijin took all his students outside. He filled the pool he had used to teach himself water clones up with water. It was nice to see the layout of this was all still the same in his head, it showed his perception skills and that he hadn’t really forgotten anything about his surroundings. Then he explained to them how water style worked. He said that water style was to be an extension of their body, even though they could not physically feel the water they should still act as if it was themself. He explained that using elemental chakra was different to normal chaka and that these students needed to learn that first before anything else. After much much more explaining he decided to show off a little. Since this was a genjutsu and he should be able to accomplish things he can not in the real world, he wanted to make a giant wave of water shoot across the training grounds. So Sakana expelled the water chakra from his hands and all around the ground started to get flooded by water, in front of the students so that they would not get carried away by the current.

Sakana then had the students try to just expel some water style from their hands in order to test how much control they had over their chakra network. So as the students started, the Meijin walked around observing what they were doing. This imaginary class of his was very ranged in ability. Some of them were shooting streams of water from their fingers, they would be quick to master their power. Then you had the moderate ones who could shoot only one stream. These kids still had some potential but would not be the stars of the class unless they worked way harder in their studies. Of course you had the people having trouble, they could only really shoot droplets from their hands. And then Sakana sighed as he looked at a few who were blue in the face and had nothing to show for all the energy they were putting out. These kids were going to have a really really hard time as ninja, some of them might not even pass the test. That would be a sad day if they failed, Sakana did not know anyone from his graduating class that failed so it was rather rare .

Not wanting to single anyone out the teacher walked back up to the front and started to explain not water style tips but just general chakra control tips to all these academy students who needed it. He started to talk about chakra first. How it was this amazing power inside each and everyone of them. Some of their chakra networks were stronger than others too. But it did not really matter all that much during these early stages. All that mattered during these moments was hard work and dedication. He then went on to explain that you needed to build up some chakra in your fingers before you can expel it from your body. This was especially important when a ninja is just starting out due to them needed to focus harder and harder until this all became second nature to them all. After they practiced for a while Sakana offered them a deal. Anyone who would shoot a water stream could go home. So one by one around ninety something perfect of them left and only the stragglers were left behind. He would stay with them for another hour or so until he was satisfied with their progress. These kids probably hated him but they needed to be trained. Plus if one of them would have the guts to speak up he probably would have let them off on a breal. Nut alas none of them did and the training course went on as normal.

Sakana knew he was being hard on these kids in this fake reality but he had to. With the wars and other things he envisioned he knew the world needed more ninja. More ninja to protect the village. The Meijin’s expectations for a water style user was actually so high none of them would ever achieve it. None of them would ever be able amplify the chakra like he was able to due to none of them having the Meijin power. The Meijin ability was actually kind of funny since it was a blessing and a curse. It was a curse because he could only have one elemental affinity, which would put him at a major disadvantage in some fights. But it was a blessing becaise it would allow him to become one of the greatest water style users in all of history. It did get lonely sometimes being the only person he knew with his power. He often wondered if there was anyone else like him in the world. Maybe he would unite the Meijin’s like he united the turtles. But that was a tale for another time, something he really was not supposed to worry about at the current point in time.

Sakana thought to himself that this genjutsu was probably done and it would be time to leave the testing area. So he knew he needed to use the Genjutsu release technique. He had heard of this jutsu being used without hand seals  like the hidden mist technique he learned so he would have to try and use it like that. Sakana closed his eyes and thought to himself that he wanted to wake up now. He opened his eyes and still saw the kumo training grounds. This was because he was treating this gen like he was sleeping and not like a powerful chakra move. So he closed his eyes again and started to build up a mass of chakra, much like he was instructing those students to do just moments ago. After he felt like he built up enough chakra he sent a wave of it flooding to his head to try and release the genjutsu. Now when he opened his eyes again he was in the white room from earlier. He had done it, he had used the genjutsu release without any hand seals.

As Sakana started to stand up from his indian style sitting he started to think about what the exam taught him in total. First he started on a boat. A large boat that was commanded by him and his goal was to make diplomatic relations and set up trading posts in other countries. This showed him a goal that he wanted so badly and it would also benefit him in the process. Although the scenery showed him something, the storm meant that his goal would not be easily achieved and many obstacles would try and rock his boat. It was a perfect metaphor for the situation. The next one would was the war setting. The setting was in the land of birds (not that it mattered.) This was an environment Sakana took no pleasure in. He hated war but he learned hear that he was to be a weapon to be used at the villages disposal. A goal the village had for him but he did not want himself. The icon in this one would be Senshi since he was a familiar face that could tell him what was going on in that warzone.  It made sense for it to be Senshi too since he was a hardened warrior. The third one was merely a self goal and did not benefit the village. He united the turtle lands and assumed he had fulfilled his goal of becoming a turtle master. But he could not be sure of that, and since it was just a gen it did not really mean anything. And then there was the final vision. He was a teacher, this one was a bit of a mix. It helped the village in a minimal way and also he kind of liked it if he was being honest. All of these visions showed him how to benefit his own goals while helping out the village in the process. In his head he knew he would have to do tasks he hated (like war) due to the new beast inside himself. He was surprised to not have a vision about that thing, probably due to the fact his brain knew little about it at that current point in time. That would be something he would have to check out in the library. But he would have to be careful because he wanted to keep it as much as a secret as possible.

Sakana would say his goodbyes to the blond woman at the entrance and head home. He told he would be notified of his progress soon and be told if he had passed. As he headed out the door Sakana still kind of hurt due to the bijuu chakra inside him and he was told to rest so an emotional genjutsu probably did push the limits of what his mind could handle for the day. The rest of the day was going to be a sad day, he had to return Komorgi to Komori. He loved that puppy so much and to see him go would break his heart. That dog practically followed him around everywhere and would be as attached to him as he was his own owner. So Sakana reminisced about them being mailmen as he twirled some water around his fingers on the walk home. He noticed he had been doing that more and more, it was mostly a nervous habit type of thing. He knew water calmed himself down so he just started twirling it when he got nervous. Currently he was nervous of giving the dog away again. So as he headed in his house he picked up Komorgi and all his new things, which included food, a leash, a bed, a sweater and more things, all pink of course. They would go on one final walk together until they had to say their good byes. This was not easy to say the least. They walked along that cobblestone path that Sakana always hated. As they got to Komori’s house Sakana would knock on the door and no one would be home. Sad day, so Sakana checked if the window was still unlocked and sure enough it was. So the Meijin let the dog lick his face for a few moments before placing him and all his things inside the house.

As he turned away Sakana would almost cry but he was stopped by the grumbles in his body, it was coming from the bijuu inside of himself. He needed to learn about this thing. Like now. Sakana remembered where the nearest library was and headed there. The path was empty so he was all alone with his thoughts and the turtle inside.
