Rotty Rotten Forest Empty Rotty Rotten Forest

Mission Details:

Link to Mission

Senshi blinked lazily as he stared at the mission office doors, he was taking what the Chuunin had told him during his second Chuunin Exam mission to heart. He needed more training and experience and what better way to do that then the conduct more missions. They were after all the best way to build experience, and most of them had hidden meanings behind them. Like the missions that took him running all over the village collecting trash or delivering mail. They seemed like dumb chores but if one were too look underneath the underneath then they would see that they were teaching the shinobi how to quickly navigate their village.

They were getting the shinobi out there interacting with people and learning what was in what area. Teaching them to know the land that they were defending. Senshi had sat down and mentally gone over every mission he had run so far and what he had learned from them all, and to say that he was surprised by the amount he had learned would be an understatement. He was willing to bet that he probably knew the village better than Reizo. He had also managed to get his hands on his teammate’s mission records to see how he compared to his peers. He had been surprised to learn that he had completed many more missions than the other two, combined.

Max had completed one D rank and the team C rank that they had done, while Reizo had completed the single team C rank mission and four of the six B rank chuunin exam missions. At least Reizo had begun the Chuunin exams but he was doing it without any real mission experience. Senshi was actually slightly disappointed in his two teammates for not pushing to assist the village with missions more. This had lead him to investigating every Genin’s mission’s record. He hadn’t been able to get names, but he had been able to see that he by far had completed more missions than any other Genin in Kumo right now. Only one other Genin had done more than five missions.

Senshi sighed pushing his thoughts about his comrades and their failure to complete more missions away. He didn’t understand how he needed more mission experience when Reizo, had completed less missions and yet was getting ready to start his second chuunin exam soon. Maybe the other Genin just learned a lot faster than he did? Shrugging Senshi finally entered the office, it was five am and he was intent on completing as many missions as he needed to really learn what it meant to be a Chuunin. He would serve is village well, regardless if others did the same. He approached the mission desk unsurprised to see that the room was mostly empty and saluted the Chuunin crisply.

“Genin Kobayashi Senshi, reporting for a mission sir.” The woman nodded tiredly throwing him a scroll, Senshi noted the rather large pile of scrolls that he had as well. It seemed that several more missions had been issued and approved. Which left the young Genin salivating slightly at the thought of completing them. He finally had things other than training to do, and he wouldn’t waste any time in completing them. Turning crisply on his heel he had out of the mission office reading the scroll as he went. It was a simple mission but Senshi could already see the hidden benefits to it.

While removing some growing trees in the Rot forest seemed like boring, menial labor on the surface it was easily clear to the Genin that learning to navigate the rot forest, and becoming more familiar with it was the main goal behind the mission. Many people were afraid of the rot forest, and for good reason, but Senshi could understand how the higher ups would want to ensure that the Genin were not afraid of it. They needed to be able to operate in it without fear clouding their minds, and they needed to trust in its defenses. It was also an added bonus that removing the trees would be hard, back breaking labor for most new Genin. A sure way to toughen them up physically.

Senshi shrugged the thoughts away as he took off towards the village gates, he didn’t really need help improving himself physically but he would take what he could get. While he didn’t fear the rot forest, he did find it odd and the chance to be around the zonbified creatures was rare. He knew that he would have to be careful not to disturb or harm any of the creatures as they were an integral part to kumogakure’s defense systems. With this in mind he showed the Gate guards his mission scroll and headed out the gates. It didn’t take him long to navigate the short way to the start of the rot forest. He paused on its out skirts looking out over them all, a bland expression on his face at the gruesome sight.

He had seen worse, as these bodies were already dead. Seeing someone die, killing someone was a much worse task. You had to see their face, the pain they were going through and know that you had caused that. That you had ruined any dreams that they had hoped to achieve. Senshi had taken to researching all the information he could find on the people he had killed. The five prisoners, the guard for the temple robbers, and finally the first kill of them all; the art thief. He had learned what was available about their pasts, what they had been doing, their hobbies, but most importantly of all the things that they had been passionate about. The things that they had wanted to accomplish.

He wondered if the Raikage did the same thing for the people he had killed and placed out here to create the rot forest. Senshi resolved that he probably didn’t have the time a Genin like he did to waste one something like that. Especially since there were a lot of bodies out here. He finally spotted the first of the two trees he needed to removed and headed over to it, he didn’t have Bastuodosodo on him since she was currently in the shop being upgraded. But frankly he was fine with that, the large blade would probably cause too much damage to the surrounding area if he used it. Better to go with his smaller tantos to remove the tree.

He dodged and weaved around the corpses, being careful not to step in any of their spilled organs or other messes that were around. The area reeked of death and Senshi did not particularly want to have to wash that smell out of his clothes more than would already be necessary. He finally approached the tree and drawing his tantos he circled around it several times ensuring that there were no zombies close enough to be harmed. Finally he charged his chakra into the blades, wind chakra dancing along the blade and sharpening them. A small whistling sound could be heard as the specific design of the blades to use sound based jutsus also activated.

With a small smile at the comfortable feel of his weapons in his hands he swung twice watching as massive portions of the base of the tree disappeared with each slice. The tree was about seven to eight feet in diameter and Senshi could see that with each slice a full foot of wood was removed. He quickly sliced twice more before cutting off his chakra and sheathing the blades. He could see the tree tottering dangerously in the wind and he shoved it with half his strength watching as it started to fall. If he were anyone else a small curse would have escaped his lips as he saw a one of the zobified creature in the path of where the tree would fall.

Instead he simply gave an annoyed sigh and formed a single hand seal disappearing in a blur of speed and catching the tree before it could land anywhere near the zombified creature. Hefting it up he moved it around for several seconds until he felt that he could carry it with enough balance to make it to the lumber yard. It wasn’t heavy for the exceptionally strong Genin, instead it was merely awkward because of its huge size. As he started to head back to the village he had to continuously adjust the huge tree in order to make sure he didn’t fall or hit it on anything. It took him well over thirty minutes to get to the lumber yard, drop the tree off and start back towards the rot forest. At least he would have plenty of time to get some training in for the rest of the day once he finished this mission.

The mission was easy, and would be completed soon. Honestly the most time consuming part of it, Senshi decided, was the fact that he had to run back and forth from the lumber yard to the rot forest. If he’d had a team to do this with then the mission would have been completed significantly faster. Senshi rather wished that his two teammates wanted to do the D rank missions with him, but neither really seemed interested in it. Which Senshi found rather odd, didn’t they need the money that the missions awarded them? Or didn’t they want to help the village by completing the missions and gaining experience for themselves?

Senshi gave up on trying to understand his two teammates, they were obviously very different from himself. Despite that though he knew they were both incredibly strong and more than deserving of their titles as Genin of the Hidden Cloud Village. Still he did wish they were more interested in completing missions and advancing both themselves and the village as a whole. Villages were built on wealth and wealth was determined by the amount of missions a shinobi completed. Senshi wondered briefly just how much money he had brought to his village with all of his work.

He didn’t have time to truly consider it as he was exiting the village gates and headed back into the rot forest. This time he had to spend several minutes looking around before he found the second tree. As he approached it he was very displeased to see that it was surrounded in corpses. He would have to be exceptionally careful to ensure that none of them were injured in the course of his duties. The mission scroll had been very clear that he was not to harm or damage any of the corpses in any way, or else he would fail the mission. And the last thing Senshi would ever do was fail a mission. He quickly decided that the corpses were entirely too close to use his tantos.

That was fine, he was plenty strong enough to knock the tree down without them, and it just meant he would have to get a little dirty. Moving around him knelt down and began digging up the roots of the tree. He started at the base of the tree quickly removing several layers of dirt all around the tree until the tree’s roots were mostly showing. He moved back to the base and dug down until he found the base of the tree, creating a rather large ditch in the area. Leaning down he gripped the trunk of the tree and grunting he moved quickly and explosively. The tree resisted at first but his initial work of clearing away the dirt made it just that much easier. After a second the tree came up from the ground sending a shower of dirt and other debris flying everywhere.

Senshi panted for several seconds surprised by how difficult that had been. He held the tree awkwardly as he headed back to the village to drop it off at the lumber yard as well. It was more awkward to carry than the last tree since he had the roots to deal with now. He finally arrived back at the lumber yard dropping it off and heading towards the mission office. He was covered in dirt and extremely dirty, but he didn’t realize just how bad he smelled from spending so much time in the rot forest. As he entered the mission office he was surprised to see several of the people in there scrunching their noses up in disgust at him. Shrugging it off him quickly filled out his report before handing it in. It was time to go get some decent training in for the day, he would complete more missions tomorrow.
