Isamu's First Jobs (Missions) Empty Isamu's First Jobs (Missions)

Mon Feb 19, 2024 10:27 pm
Mission Info:

Isamu walked through the paths of Moon Country, taking in the sights of the island nation as he made his way toward an adoption center that his creator had sent him to assist. It was one that Denkiteki had visited some time ago and was where he had gotten the dog that was now following Isamu on a leash. The artificial man looked down at the small creature as they walked, his piercing blue eyes wondering why the strange man who had created him had such a pet.

Deciding that it wasn't going to be worth his time to try and understand the odd man that had created him Isamu turned his thoughts to the task ahead of him. The building the animals were in was run down, Denkiteki had put some effort into putting the building back together but apparently, it needed more intensive maintenance than the blind man was willing to provide, so Isamu found himself with the task.

The tall man walked with a wary gate as he made his way through the countryside, his pace just enough to not bother the dog he was walking. Isamu was dressed in a simple black robe, similar in appearance to Den's but not reinforced. His long black hair was tied back in a knot at the back of his head, keeping it out of his face. He wore no weapons, having not been given one by Denkiteki when he was first made. Wondering if he would be safe the man would constantly look about, trying to ensure that no one one was creeping up on him as he walked.

It took Isamu some time to arrive at the adoption center, the man's piercing blue eyes settling upon the dilapidated building as he drew near, wondering how these people got away with being able to run their business. Sighing, he walked the small dog he was leading over to the building. As he drew near he noticed a man who appeared to be about the age Isamu looked, though his body was worse for wear than the artificial man's. With a curious gaze, the middle-aged man approached, pointing to the dog and asking Isamui how he got it.

"My master told me to take it here, he said he wanted me to help you learn to care for her and also that you needed help putting your building back together." Isamu's voice was blunt and matter-of-fact. He wondered if he should perhaps be more friendly, but unfortunately, the memory link with his creator hadn't provided him with any insight on how to be sociable.

nodding, the man set Isamu to work as he took the leash from him and took it off of the dog. Isamu was originally distressed but soon found that the animal wished to stay near him and the middle-aged man.

As Isamu set about removing rotten and broken boards from the wall of the building he listened as the man explained to him his methods for training dogs, occasionally demonstrating them using Denkiteki's dog. As the day went on Isamu found out that the dog's name was Lady, something his creator had neglected to mention.

After removing a good chunk of bad boards Isamu began to work on setting new ones against the frame and nailing them into it, covering the wall of the building back up. He found the task difficult, his body relatively weak. Denkiteki had told him that he would eventually be as capable as a normal human, perhaps even more so, but for the time being he found himself to be quite feeble.

Occasionally the middle-aged man would help Isamu, noticing he was struggling. The man asked Isamu what was wrong, but the artificial man opted to lie and told him that he was recovering from an injury that had left him bedridden for some time. Taking the answer at face value, the middle-aged man continued to assist Isamu in bracing the wood against the frame before nailing it into place.

It didn't take long for the two men to finish the new wall. Den's dog watched Isamu and the middle-aged man the whole time, seemingly curious about the project they were undertaking. As he put down the hammer Isamu looked back at Lady and found himself smiling and chuckling, he wasn't sure why but he found the small dog adorable.

The man thanked Isamu for the assistance, commenting that it would probably be a while before the building was back in a respectable state but that for now less of the animals would be getting out. The two of them then walked about the man's property, finding a couple of animals that had gotten loose the night before and ushering them back inside.

With that task complete the man offered to take Isamu inside for breakfast with him and his wife. Eager for a hot meal Isamu followed the man into his home, sitting and eating as the man and his wife planned their day. He realized they planned to go into town and run some errands, but that the wife wasn't feeling well enough to go.

"I'd be willing to help with those tasks if you need a hand." Isamu thought it best to offer his services to these people as much as possible, as he had been sent here by Den to guard the place. While he wouldn't necessarily be present at the Adoption Center itself he'd be guarding the man who owned and operated it.

The couple graciously accepted Isamu's offer and began to explain that the man needed help going into town. It was the first birthday of their grandaughter and the woman had prepared a basket of goodies including baked goods and gifts. While the woman had wanted to travel into town and deliver them herself she knew that she wasn't feeling up to it. Isamu was more than happy to accept the task, he and the man left the Adoption Center shortly after they finished breakfast. Lady followed close behind, always staying slightly behind Isamu and to the right.

As the two made their way down the road the middle-aged man explained that his son and daughter-in-law planned to do a celebration once his wife was feeling better, so they would just be dropping off the gift when they got into town rather than spending time attending a party or anything like that.

After they dropped off the gift the man intended to go to a bar and hang out with some of his old buddies, apparently they would be playing cards and betting small amounts of cash. With the amount of money the man intended to pay Isamu after they finished this next errand the man believed that the artificial man would have a decent amount of cash to play with if he wanted to join in the fun.

For Isamu, it wasn't too difficult to agree. He hadn't realized that he was getting paid until that moment, thinking he was just in service to the man and his wife because Denkiteki had told him to go to their location. He didn't have any issues with losing the money if things went south, but it could be interesting to have a chunk of money if he ended up somehow winning a game he'd never played before. The middle-aged man seemed especially excited as Isamu mentioned he'd never played before, joking with the artificial man that he should be careful with how much he bets then.

It didn't take long for the two men and the dog that accompanied them to travel to the nearby town. Isamu was surprised by how many people were present, used to only being around up to two other people up until this point. The middle-aged man next to him laughed when he expressed how overwhelming it all was, before explaining to Isamu that the island used to have an even larger population a few years back. he started to explain to Isamu that not far from their location was a large ruined settlement that had once housed skyscrapers full of people.

As the man explained things Isamu felt a strange sense of familiarity, vague images of what the man described passing through his mind that almost felt like memories. Was this from the memory link he shared with his creator, or was the man just painting such a vivid picture? Isamu wasn't sure. As he pondered this they arrived at the house of the middle-aged man's son. Isamu handed the basket to the younger man and bowed, letting him know that he did his best to care for the gifts meant for the man's daughter.

Finished with that task, the middle-aged man excitedly told his son that he and his new pal Isamu were going to go play cards. Setting the basket inside and informing his wife, the son made his way out soon to follow the two older men as they began heading toward a different home.

Walking towards this new building Isamu opted to ask both men their names, finding out that the man who owned the Adoption Center was named Sota while his son was named Minoru. The artificial man introduced himself as Isamu, and the 3 men laughed for having gone so far as to travel to a poker game together without exchanging names. The father and son chuckled some more as they both handed Isamu the money owed to him for the tasks he had done so far, saying that they hoped he didn't lose it all in the coming game.

Arriving at the building the two men led Isamu through the front door and into a tavern where a large number of people had congregated. Isamu was led to a large table where several other men were playing cards and sat down with Sota and Minoru to either side of him. While Isamu was initially wary of the two men choosing to be on either side of him he quickly found them both whispering helpful advice to him as the game went on. It seemed they were both more interested in the game being fun rather than winning themselves, and Isamu quickly found himself winning quite a bit of coin as the day started to wane toward evening time.

as the night went on there were a couple of people coming and going from the table, but Isamu and his two companions were constants. At a couple of points Den's dog, Lady, would jump up onto a chair and sit facing the table as though she was going to join the game. This usually would cause people to laugh or start cooing at the small dog, finding her adorable and wanting to pet her. Seto and Minoru seemed mostly alright with the behavior but would get a bit annoyed when it slowed down the game.

As the day continued into night Isamu found himself enjoying the game, he was proving to be quite lucky at playing it and he company proved to be enjoyable for the most part. There were another two individuals who seemed to remain at the table throughout the night, an older woman who had been steadily losing cash throughout the night and a quiet gentleman who had made a few small wins here and there but they'd been offset by a number of big losses.

As the game continued Isamu got to know the two a little bit, finding out that the woman needed help traveling to a family reunion after the game and that the man was a traveler. It eventually got to a point where Isamu was buying them drinks, feeling bad about taking so much of their money and wanting them to be able to enjoy some of it at least. The woman proved to be able to hold her liquor but the man proved otherwise, quickly becoming inebriated.

Isamu found himself having to take a break at one point to take the man into a bathroom and help hold him up while he puked. As Isamu supported the man a strange package fell out of his pocket, which prompted the artificial man to reach down and pick it up. The drunk man quickly stammered and asked for it back, telling him that he couldn't open it. Isamu was confused by the man's sudden change in behavior, but rather than finding himself in danger, it seemed the drunk man was ready to start pleading with him.  Isamu listened with a confused expression on his face as the man told him that he'd give him a thousand ryo to not tell anyone about the package.

Not seeing any reason to decline, Isamu accepted the offer and soon found himself taking the money from the man. He noticed the man seemed a bit more sober as they left the bathroom and returned to the table. The strange man kept looking over at Isamu as the game continued but didn't seem to want to talk as much anymore.

The artificial man shrugged it off, deciding to keep the promise to the man even though he had already been paid. He made sure not to include the new money he had acquired in his betting either, not wanting to tip off his two new friends that he had suddenly acquired even more cash as he felt they were keeping track of how much he had.

As the night finally drew to a point where the game was coming to a close Isamu found himself with quite a sum of money. His two new friends congratulated him and informed him they would be heading back home.

As he pocketed his winnings Isamu nodded to the drunk man he had made a deal with earlier before making his way over to the elderly woman. The woman smiled and said she was ready to go if he'd be so kind as to escort her to her family reunion. The artificial man was more than happy to, even before he realized he'd be paid for this task too. The two of them then made their way out of the tavern, slightly drunk but not enough to be impaired thankfully. The two stumbled together down the street and through the town. It didn't take long for the two of them to exit through a small gate and head towards a small building just visible on the outskirts of the small town. As they got close Isamu noticed that there were a number of candles lit near the windows and quite a bit of noise as well.

Once they arrived at the doorstep the woman thanked Isamu for walking him and pulled out a purse. She quickly counted some small bills to give him and handed him another thousand ryo to add to the growing bag of cash. As the transaction occurred Lady would wait patiently next to Isamu, having followed next to him the entire time.

Thanking the woman for paying him so generously he would turn and start heading back towards the town. He planned to catch his bearings within the small place and then make his way back to the Adoption Center from there. He had been commanded by his creator to protect that location after all. Thankfully he didn't get lost and soon found himself back at the Adoption center before it got to late.
