Winter is Coming [Travel]

Gathering her belongings, Yushia carefully and neatly stows away all her camping equipment and other essentials into her new Gakuran uniform. The seals tucked away underneath made the packing up process move along more smoothly than she anticipated, but is no less grateful to the designer of the article of clothing. She smothers the flame at her firepit until only plumes of smoke belch from its confines and makes a last minute check of everything before she dons her haori, carries her gear, and makes her way outside to the front gates of Yugakure.

Partway out from the gates, she looks back for a moment and stays for a long while. When she notices no further movements, she turns back forwards. Perhaps she'll encounter her new acquaintance upon her arrival somewhere at the borders. However long their fateful reunion may take.

Thereupon she's met with a modestly weathered, masculine face and dons a shabby, blue and white jinbei. He hears a set of oncoming footsteps as he raises his head from the straw of wheat he fiddled with prior in his mouth. He pushes himself off the carriage's body and nods to the young wanderer.

"Morning, Miss," He hails. "Plannin' a trip somewhere?"

Yushia nods. "Yes. To the Land of Snow, if you will. You can drop me off at the borders."

"The Land of Snow, eh?" He fiddles with the straw in his mouth briefly. "Pretty far from where we are. And cold as a witch's teat, at that—ah, pardon me. Not that I'm saying I won't take ya." He scans the luggage she brought with her and shifts his gaze toward her attire. "Hmm. Your village shinobi and not the criminal-looking type either… wanderer?"

"Technically speaking, yes."

He sighs. "Thank the kami," He mutters beneath his breath. "Alright, that'll be about… eight-thousand Ryo for the journey."

"Done." She adds, rifling through her pockets before handing over the exact amount to the chauffeur. Holding the bundle together in one hand, he uses the other to thumb through the stack a couple of times over before he nods to himself and pockets the money.

"Excellent, need help with the—" When he looks up to ask, he already finds Yushia stowing her luggage into the back of the carriage without any trouble. Before he could make a move to at least open the door for her to enter the wagon, she opens it for herself and sits herself inside. He shrugs to himself and strides up to the front of the wagon and makes himself comfortable. "Hope you had a big breakfast and somethin' for entertainment. Hyaaah!" He jostles his hands and whips the reins. The two horses neigh and whine, stomp on the barren soil beneath them before they move forward with the rhythmic, low-echoing clops of their hooves.

Yushia positions her scabbard under her left arm and over her shoulder. Then, she tucks her arms between the sleeves of her haori and leans her head back against the cushion of her seat. It takes several minutes for her to adjust to the odd movements and outside noises before her mind finally finds the comfort it needs to sleep. Before her mind whisks her away to an abyss of dreams, she decides against the notion at the last-minute and decides to remain awake throughout the journey until her body decides enough is enough and she succumbs to the sleep that she will need.

Until then, she waits patiently with a quiet eagerness.

The Land of Snow seems so much closer now. No longer a distant memory.
