On the prowl

Raikou was adjusting to Suna better now. He still felt irked by the feeling of eyes on him, and not the usual kind. He was now in a village runned by other ninja. He didn't like the idea to be tied down or forced to fight for them. He took jobs for a freelance angle as a rogue ninja, while keeping his background and history a secret. Either way, Suna was not a place he intended to stay forever, but it allowed him to not need to run and hide. There were others like him. Other rogues who sought out Suna as a place for refuge or to find work. Though he still was trying to control his own power and impulses, Raikou was able to do what he had to do here. He could train, rest, keep a low profile, sleep and get a good meal instead of hunting his food like he did so often. Not much game in a desert, or any edible unless you liked to eat overgrown poisonous scorpions.

He shook at the idea as he returned to his drink. He was now inside a softly lit bar, in a corner of Suna in its red light district-- the place a bit more suited for the rogues and cut-throats who would live there. It was an area where the Spire wouldn't easily see most of what went on, and the general area was where the more darker minded people gathered anyway. Raikou wouldn't of thought he was much of a drinker, but it seemed he picked up a couple of his master's bad habits as he began to discover the calming sensation of drinking socially.

Still, he made very few connections with people beyond his clients or his boss... that and the occasional woman he would spend a night or two with. He was a shameless rogue in the end.

The bar was roudy and more than a few rougher souls lingered there, but Raikou kept to himself for now, hearing the others conversations but also trying to enjoy the time he had to rest. He had done a good amount of work and training to harness his inner power, but it still surged within him and threatened to come out at times.

Another gulp of the amber liquor went down, which seemed to help keep his mind off of it. But what he would wonder about was his goal afterwards... He knew though he couldn't keep hiding in Suna forever. Nor did he want to.

On the Prowl Empty Re: On the Prowl

It was hot. It was so very, very hot. It wasn’t a humid heat but rather a dry heat and Velvetine groaned unhappily. She wasn’t much for a complainer, but goddamn it, it was fucking hot. She just wanted somewhere to cool off and relax and her she was, looking for livers if the damn desert They would be worthless and useless by the time she even harvested any here without her putting them in a corpse scroll. Would they even make it to her homeland? She couldn’t be sure and she couldn't remember ever asking- she couldn’t remember anything mostly because of the heat.

Then she saw it; more mirage than reality. An area where it seemed people were roaming but she wasn’t entirely sure.

As she continued this mirage gained solidity and it wasn’t a lie; it was really an area. She makes sure to stand straight under her cloak and her hood, and she makes sure to keep some distance. Normally, someone like her father would be against intermingling with the livestock but her mother had been quite the opposite from her own recollections-

“Darling here!” She could hear her mother’s jovial and happy voice, and when Velvetine paused by an alley and looked over, she could see phantoms of her mother when she was healthier, dragging her father behind her through the streets. They were mildly occupied now; not too busy, not too empty. “Look here- OH and there!” Her mother would chitter excitedly and her father, a massive man, would not resist. Turning more ragdoll than Shepard as she pulled him about and he kept most of his complaints to himself. They seemed more odd pair than anything, in public. “Are you hungry? Come, let’s eat!” As Velvetine passively followed these phantoms from shadow to shadow, careful to stay out of anyone’s way, she could see her parents interacting. Happy, content. Her father had no love being among the livestock but he made it a point to tell and drill into Velvetine that there were situations where one would do well by someone else to put their desires aside.

“Your mother likes to socialize and be among the people.” Her father had mentioned in passing once when he was describing the purpose of a shepherd’s wife, “We are supposed to remain neutral; her sociality makes things difficult but you must think of it. Rationalize it. Put the reason to it, if you are to be a well-rounded member of your community, my little dove.” He voiced as he parted out another order for a client, “It is easy to think of negatives, but it takes courage to think of positives. She needs to keep up appearance so her little outings to fill her need to be social are to be viewed as information collecting, espionage and creatively involving herself in the community so that when the livestock see her, they do not think of the wolf; they think of fondness and affection.” He voiced and Velvetine smiled, even now as she stood and watched the imaged run off into a darker alley and thorough a side doorway that she didn’t see at first. Velvetine, ever curious, followed and found herself in a softly lit bar.

She pulled her hood off and took off her cloak, walking into the cooler room, looking around it, and seeing rougher people. This community might do her well, for it was rotted just from the look of this place. She went up to the barkeep and they looked at her as her dusty pink hair wafted forward, “Do you have rooms for rent here?” She inquired.

On the Prowl Empty Re: On the Prowl

Fri Aug 28, 2020 10:45 pm
Raikou was on his second drink as he felt a bit more at ease. Everything was simple for now, but he kept his senses sharp for anything. The worst that happened was a bar brawl between two guys in the distant corner, but most people just ignored it. Again, this was an atmosphere where he could get used to in this part of Wind Country. Still, he was starting to miss places that were a touch more peaceful. The rivers, the forest-- he was starting to miss the sense of life that came from the world around him when he lived in the wilds. While he was more refined now and didn't hunt or stole to survive, he was missing some of the old scenery.

A sigh escaped him as he listened to the rabble of the surrounding drunks and chaos, not even bothered by it. However he sensed a new presence in the bar, a new person in a cloak that came wobbling in. By the scent of the person, it was a woman. At least one not stinking of alcohol. He glanced at the cloaked person as she seemed to wobble, probably dehydrated as she approached the bar keeper. She asked fro a room to spend the night as the bartender turned. "Sorry, we are not an inn. Can I get you something to drink or eat perhaps?" he asked.

There were other places to check for lodging, but this was a mere small town at the border of the land of Wind. Even Raikou had only traveled that far to check out a mission involving missing hawks. He had finished and would make his way back in time. However, he thought he earn some R&R with a drink and some down time in this dark shady pub.

"Hey there," Another man came up to the woman as she no longer had on her cloak. Even Raikou had to admit, she was a looker-- but naturally, there were always a few guys who were too drunk to be polite to one... at least before Raikou would try to hit on them anyway. For now, though he kept his distance. "IF you need a place to spend the night, I may be able to help you out...hm?" the drunk asked, the obvious hint was clear in his voice of what he had in mind.

While Raikou too was a similar creature of pleasure, he wasn't that thick or classless to hit on a woman who just walked in from the scorching desert. "Bartender," Raikou asked, interrupting the man, "Get the girl some water, and first drink on me, if you will. Or whatever she is in the mood for." Normally, the last thing a vendor wanted to hear was just 'water please', so figure he would help out by offering a bit of charity to the stranger. Not everyone could tolerate the heat, and despite his large and strong condition, even he had challenges navigating the scorching desert sands.

On the Prowl Empty Re: On the Prowl

"Sorry, we are not an inn. Can I get you something to drink or eat perhaps?" The Barkeep asked her and Velvetine smiled politely; she hadn’t thought that far as being on the road has made her a bit spoiled. She guessed. Most of the places she happened to walk or stumble into had some sort fo room in the back and it seemed her mother’s God had been looking out for her and watching over her to lead her touch places-

“Lord Jashin does not put us on a path meant to destroy us; he guides up to where we need to be, he guides us to struggle where we must so that we may be better.” She recalled her mother telling her and her sisters. She had been a quietly religious woman; something that had played a barrier against her father for quite some time apparently but it was not a topic either liked to speak upon.

As she picked up a menu from the bar, she intended to look it over and decide on what to eat as they may not have had a meal she was interested in. Then it happened; a man came over towards her. She felt him but with a body made of writhing, sensitive tentacles- she felt everybody, all around her, all the damn time. “Hey there.” The man said but he reeked of heavy alcohol and Velvetine frowned. The livestock that drank was always her least favorite; they were necessary rot. Without these ones, the ecosystem of restaurants and bars would falter if they were wiped out immediately instead of overtime, so they were an unwelcome and unliked evil. They were the worst type of livestock; their parts didn’t catch much and it wasn’t often a client wanted them. Just as often as a clarinet needed them, drunkards and drug-addled livestock were carved out gradually, sliced up carefully, and fed to livestock that was grateful to have them. Hogs and dogs. "If you need a place to spend the night, I may be able to help you out...hm?" The livestock asked and she frowned, as she mentally processed what to say next, another voice boomed back.

"Bartender," A voice spoke upfront he back and Velvetine looked past the drunk’s side as the Drunk tried to turn towards the other man.  "Get the girl some water, and first drink on me, if you will. Or whatever she is in the mood for." That was kind of him and the drunkard by her even pulled away- giving Velvetine and opportunity to look at the menu she wanted to preview so eagerly before. After a few careful scans of it, she smiled and showed the menu to the barkeep, tapping to two different meals, “May I have this stew and this dish as well?” She asked then smiled, “Please set them at the same table that man is at.” She requested after the man set down a glass of water for her. She grabbed the water and her cloak and went over to the table where the burly man sat and gave a polite smile, brushing her fingertips over the back of a chair across from him, “May I sit with you?”

On the Prowl Empty Re: On the Prowl

The gesture Raikou gave to her was partly a gesture to aid her. Sure, she was pretty and if the situation was different, he probably is just as guilty as the guy who had tried to hit on her. But in this case, he was more in control of his 'wild side', and she looked exhausted and suffering from a mild case of heatstroke. Welcome to the desert as that was usually the case, so he offered her a meal-- also a way to make the first guy buzz off. How long that would last? No clue...

.. however, what did surprise Raikou after he had made the offer to pay for her needs there, she came right up to him. She asked for the food to be next to him and he glanced up at her. It was hard for him to not really take in her dark skin and beautiful face. Her request to sit with him, he tried hard not to smile too much as he smirked at her. "Sure," he replied kindly and stopped from hunching over, despite his height.

As the bartender placed the order and told one of the waiting staff to bring their food, Raikou sat back as he looked at the woman with her water. She clearly looked like she seen hell, from the desert anyway. "What brings you here, anyway? Not exactly a place you come for site seeing, unless you are kind of running from something?" Raikou asked, his tone a bit smug but not intentionally. He just knew that most who came to Suna were rogues or those of darker avenues. Raikou may of been a charmer in his best, but he was trying to be genuinely kind to her. Either way, something seemed to bug her in some way or form. A person with alot on her mind.

"Name's Raikou, by the way. If I may ask, you are..." he asked, curious about her.

She probably would be what one would call a desert flower, as he could still sense some unease in the tavern. The guy who tried to hit on her earlier was still glaring at them both-- probably mad at Raikou for stealing a shot with her. He tried to ignore him. If he came over to cause problems-- then he wouldn't make any promises.

Still, he had to keep in check of himself. Not that he wouldn't do anything uncivil with a woman he just met-- not without concent anyway. But more so due to the 'urges' he had. The bloodlust, that was a curse that made him almost like a wild animal. For now, he didn't feel anything bad. He took another sip of his drink, and listened to the young woman.

He could hear the grumbles of others slowly die away as some said 'lucky bastard' to find the young woman talking to him. He had to admit, this probably what people called a 'desert flower' , and certainly she should be flattered to be called herself that.
