A Day of Training (Open) Empty A Day of Training (Open)

You have to play fairly, you have to obey the rules. This all children learn at a very young age. Why, what does that mean, what makes you do that, what are the consequences of not playing by the rules. In the context of playing with others, if you break the rules you prove to be untrustworthy and undesirable to play with. So the opportunities to play would diminish. And you have to play to become good at it, which in turn leads to winning. Which means that you have to sacrifice results in order to learn, you have to sacrifice winning in order to win in the long run. Lose in order to learn every way to win. As long as you can keep progressing, you can win. As long as you live... In the context of shinobi, for whom losing some of their games means death, remaining desirable to play with translates into remaining alive and capable and the concept of rules changes from those in a game...

Similar thoughts would swirl in Naoki's mind and he would smile as it occurred to him that such ideas are hardly original, that it is all rooted in survival. Where did all of this even begin - he would wonder, taking a look around. Well, he found himself sitting on a bench in the sports field next to the great academy of Kirigakure. And there were children here. Some of them were playing around, but most were training. You see it was a Taijutsu practice day, one of the events organized by the academy to improve the quality of the village's ninja by training the youngest of them. That included both the students of the academy as well as Genin that were currently not on a mission. Some few dozen students and less than half of that many Genin were synchronically copying movements, attacks and blocks, even shouts, of a handful of instructors on the field.

The deputy Mizukage looked to be wearing rather generic blue trousers, shirt and a Jounin jacket. At least that is how he had set his manipulated fabric to appear for that occasion, but the effect was that based on apparel alone he did not seem any more unique than most of the higher ranked ninja in the area. He would observe as the training moved on to the next stage and the crowd was now practicing close quarters combat moves with kunai. He was not required for this part or the previous parts of the practice, but just like several other Chuunin and Jounin came to observe anyways. For Naoki, watching the young ones learn and grow gave him comfort in knowing that there is some peace through his actions and that next generation to maintain that peace is steadily growing. But, like the rest, he did not come here for that only reason. Any Chuunin and higher, not currently on a mission, were requested by the academy to assist with the exercise. You see, the next stage was where the students and genin would form groups and do combat practice against the teachers. And the academy had only so many teachers, so Naoki and the other older ninja attending would help the young ones train and by taking on a few of them.

The day was going to be a glorious one, and yet fall knew it. Thus, many things were going to happen and while the sun rising across the face of the Shinobi it was time to get up.  The curtains opened, but it wasn't very wide enough for the young human. He got up from his bed, prepared for what was to occur. The field was in his head, and no matter what it was, the time came for him. Fall went toward the bathroom and got along all his natural daily bases. It was a moment where he thought, and thinking what he should do after the training sphere. Once complete, Fall headed downstairs and ate a bowl of food grain. He looked up and saw his uncle sitting across the couch reading a newspaper. Fall nodded and smiled. He was glad for him and grateful for raising him up carefully. Later, sometime figuring out what to wear he finally found the look. A black straw hat and a full black robe hitting until his sandals. And his sack, filled with Kunai and all sorts of tools. Once made his mind, Fall was to leave and head to the arena.

Nevertheless, before he forgot, he would give his uncle a smooth hug and while his uncle would give him a farewell speech. " As you know, I am turning an old man, and things need to be different. One day, I will be gone, understand I won't be here no more. Gone like a whistle, float like a boat remember that and assign it through your notes. It is not hard, but it's something for you to know. Run out there and cause a change in people's life, then they will respect you without no comments" Fall smiled and giggled at his uncle. He sure was unique, and inspirational after all that's who he was. " I will thank you, Uncle." He left the household and headed straight to the field without any hesitation. What was he going to do first, and so many people simply like him training and learning. It was his time to shine, and time to prove he's a great Shinobi. He settled to do twenty push - ups, and it did quite seem hard, but fall pushed through it no matter what. After bouncing up and pounding his chest, he would continually go on doing it until he somehow managed to take a small break sitting against a tree.

"Now parry!"

Gripping the cool metal of a kunai in her right hand, Asami Miyamoto followed her drill instructor's command and brought the angled blade of the weapon up in a defensive flourish. Then, holding her position, the young kunoichi waited as the instructor, a tall broad-faced man, walked up and down the line of genin and students to assess their form. The man stopped here and there making comments about a sloppy grip or inadequate stance until he came to Asami. His gray eyes looked her up and down but apparently found no fault in her form as he turned to go.

However, in a movement faster than the genin's eyes could follow, the man rounded on her with a balled up fist and animalistic shout. The man's fist stopped an inch away from her face and she flinched involuntarily breaking her once impeccable form. The sneer on the instructor's face told Asami all she needed to know, she'd messed up.

"Work on that, Miss Miyamoto," he growled before returning to the front of the group and continuing with his orders. "Annnnd eyes!!"

Her cheeks still flushed red in embarrassment more than fatigue, Asami followed the man's command and stabbed upwards in an attempt to gouge out an invisible enemy's eyes. The young girl looked like any other genin with a headband hanging loosely around her neck, a white tank top with the emblem of Kirgakure emblazoned on the front and a pair of black tights that reached midway down her calves. Yet still, she felt like everyone's eyes were on her watching her every move and, more importantly, her every mistake.

Ah, the joys of being a teenager...

"Alright, you welps," the teacher finally called out after half an hour of drills. "It's time for real combat practice. You'll be put into groups and matched with a more experienced shinobi. This will test your teamwork in the face of a far superior opponent."

The teacher once more made his way up and down the lines of assembled students and began pairing them off with chuunin and jounin until only Asami remained. As always, it seemed that the young girl would be the odd one out. Thankfully, the instructor found a solution sitting under a distant tree.

"You there, red hair," the instructor bellowed. "Double time it over here, you and Miss Miyamoto will be squaring off against our distinguished guest."

A curt nod accompanied the instructor's words as he indicated a black haired male sporting the garb of a jounin. For some reason, the man indicated looked familiar to the genin, but she found herself unable to put her finger on exactly why. Nonetheless, she wove her way through the small groups of genin and towards the black haired man. Hopefully, the red-haired boy would do the same. Regardless, however, she would stop a respectful distance away from her soon to be opponent and gave a deep bow.

"It's nice to meet you mister," she chirped, rising from her bow and gazing up at the man whose hair she now realized was not black, but rather a dark brown. "My name's Asami Miyamoto."

The red-haired boy beneath the tree never bothered to obey the instructor's orders and as such invited the gruff man's wrath. Stomping off to confront the boy, the instructor screamed words at the youth, which Asami had never heard in her life, but they certainly sounded intimidating. So, having introduced herself, she could not help casting a wayward glance over her shoulder at the unfortunate boy who did not seem to even be flinching under the instructor's increasing hostility. The whole interaction was really quite strange, it felt like something out of a storybook or maybe a movie.

What kind of Kirigakure shinobi was dumb enough to disobey a superior?

The young girl's gaze did not, however, remain on the instructor's ceaseless upbraiding for long. No, she returned her gaze to the brown-haired man who had yet to say a word. She, for her part and though she found it rather difficult, remained silent and waited for the man to speak or, frankly, do anything other than stand there. The whole situation reminded her vaguely of a certain woman who possessed the power to freeze nature in its tracks.

Oh well, if the past couple months had taught the still blooming genin anything it was that patience was key.

Yes, her patience would pay off...any minute now, any minute. All around the pair sounds of combat broke out as teams of two and three genin tested their mettle against a far more experienced shinobi. Kunai clashed, fists swung, and swords clanged, but Asami remained rooted in place. The man dark-haired man across from her had responded to neither her well-intentioned greeting nor the sounds of battle around him. The young girl concluded this whole thing was a test; clearly, the man was testing her willpower and she wasn't about to fail a test, not again. No, she would meet the man's stony expression with one of her own—when it came to stubbornness Asami invariably held the high ground no matter who she faced and this time would be no different.

Casting a sidelong glance to her left, the genin spied one of her friends from the academy, Asuna. The tall lanky Asuna seemed to be having a hard time dealing with a heavyset jounin who parried and blocked any attempts the girl made and thus forced her into a series of failed offenses and weak defenses. The jounin had yet to break a sweat while Asuna and her partner were drenched in sweat that mingled with the pitter-patter of rain that had begun to fall. Bringing her gaze back to the dark haired man, Asami took a deep breath, she would not be bested by him.

Unfortunately, the longer she looked at the strange mute man, the less and less she was sure she'd seen him before. When she first saw him he had looked so familiar, like something out of a dream. However, she now found herself questioning that judgment. Perhaps it was because he looked like one of the sailors who had worked with her father? She couldn't be sure because while he did look like a seaman he clearly lacked the physique for it. No, he wasn't a sailor? Perhaps he was just some random jounin? That would make sense. After all, someone any more important than a jounin wouldn't spend his time staring off into space when he had a task before him.

Yeah...

Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock...

Now, here was a worthy opponent for Asami; the stoic figure before her had yet to flinch even as a kunai from a sparring pair to his left came dangerously close to giving him an impromptu nose job. Asami, for her part, took a step forward to avoid being dragged into what had turned into a melee of genin and jounin behind her. The jounin, based on the frenzied screams of the genin, clearly had the upper hand, but it was still quite the fight nevertheless. This, of course, contrasted sharply with the showdown of wills Asami still found herself locked in. The dark-haired man was stubborn, the young genin would give him that. However, he was not stubborn enough.

That said, the whole thing was getting more than a bit strange. The man had not moved a muscle save to breathe and probably maintain his normal bodily functions. After all, it would be truly strange if the older man fell over dead from something silly like forgetting to breathe. Comical though it might be such a thing simply couldn't happen. No, random heart attacks did not happen. So, the pair would continue their standoff until one or the other broke.

Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock...

Somedays you wait and somedays you are being waited on. Today Asami was waiting, waiting for the dark-haired man to make a move or even speak for that matter. So far the man had spent his time staring off into space like some kind of zombie. Perhaps he was dreaming of eating brains or maybe what he was doing in the middle of a training session zoning out. Asami, on the other hand, dreamed of a time that she could join her peers in combat. That said, by this point, most of her peers had already lost to their higher ranking sparring partners, so perhaps it was better to be stuck in a deadlock? She couldn't be sure one way or the other.

However, she would soldier on.

After all, what else was a genin to do?

Yes, she continued to stare down the older man, waiting. Of course, the question of waiting for what was a better question. Some of the genin and jounin began to filter out of the training grounds leaving the courtyard less and less crowded by the minute. A few people whispered as they passed by, but the young girl didn't let them bother her. She had a job to do and she'd see it through.

Ok, now it was starting to get strange.

The rain began to come down in earnest as the academy courtyard cleared out. There were still a few pairs of people talking, but they had taken shelter under the generous eaves of the academy. This left the short genin and the tall mute man standing in the center of the courtyard alone. Turning her chin up ever so slightly, Asami tried to catch the man's eyes in an attempt to see what exactly what he was playing at. However, the man neither moved nor blinked even once. Instead, he stared off into oblivion as if caught in some alternate timeline.

It just got stranger and stranger by the second.

"Miyamoto!" the grating voice of the drill instructor sent a chill down her spine despite the warm rain and drew her gaze to the source of the noise by the main academy. "Stop standing there and get on with it, you won't hurt him."

Taking a breath, the young genin returned her attention to the man in front of her. Taking a sharp breath, she balled up her right fist, drew back the appropriate arm and stepped forward with the intention of punching the man squarely in the stomach. Such a hit certainly wouldn't permanently harm the taller man, but it just might end the staring match for the time being. Normally she wouldn't take such an aggressive approach to the situation, but—once again—it was foolish for a Kirigakure shinobi to disobey a higher up and the drill instructor was indeed a higher up.

Claiming kill on Yousei and S-rank for Asami

Do you know that feeling when you stub your toe on a chair? Well, the moment Asami's small fist hit the man's stomach it felt as if she had stubbed her entire arm. The shock ran through her fist, up her arm, and came to a sudden jarring stop in her shoulder. As she withdrew her fist pain prickled up and down her arm as if it had fallen asleep and the violent impact had restored the flow of blood. Wincing, she gave her arm a tentative shake; she was far from an expert, but nothing felt broken.

Well, unless you counted her pride.

Hitting the man had been like hitting a brick wall, not that she had ever ever ever done that before. And, worse yet, the man reacted less than the brick wall may or may not have. He just took the punch without a sound or change in expression. Perhaps he had turned into a statue? It would make sense why he refused to move and why it felt as if he were made of stone. Maybe a new form of jutsu?

Yeah, that had to be it.

Shaking out her arm once more she cast her gaze back towards the instructor who appeared to bent over in laughter. Not wanting to show any further signs of weakness, she turned back the statue man and waited. She waited for anything, but, if the day so far was any indication, she still had a fair amount of waiting left to do.

Oh well, she could wait.

It had long since gone from strange to aggravating.

The sun had just dipped below the distant horizon when the pair found themselves truly alone. Even the instructor had gone home. Yet, the man had not moved an inch. The man clearly had the resolve of a rock and perhaps similar brain functions. Asami's once fiery resolve, on the other hand, had long since shrunk into nothingness; she was done.

"You win," she admitted reluctantly. "Have a good night, mister statue-man."

With that, she turned and went on her way. She had no intention of catching a cold from the heavy rain that was sure to come with the waning light. As it turned out, the young genin was stubborn, but not that stubborn.
