spying on the competition

Yep, back to the chakra control again.
Ryusei Shinkou had stood outside the Genin Exams area for a good while, and after a while noticed he was never called inside. Upon further examination, it appeared that he had to spend some additional time training, not just for the basic Academy ninjutsu. Them proctors liked the extra curriculars didn’t they? This was not going to be a big issue, he just wished he had thought to check before. Then he would not have wasted many hours waiting for a rejection he could easily have seen coming. Stupid.
Any ways, he was back hiding out in the back of the examination hallway in the spectator area, watching the other actual examinants, and their often hilarious attempts at the academy jutsu. In the mean time, he practiced the Genjutsu release technique, whereby one would cause their chakra to flow rapidly through their body, in an attempt to wrest themselves free from a genjutsu illusion. Presumably the only reason this might have had a chance in the first place is that the caster was not the user, and as such all genjutsu were pretty remote actually. This meant that the caster of the genjutsu had to exert much more effort to maintain the jutsu than Ryusei Shinkou would have to to break it. Or at least, that was the theory of the braniac who was currently taking the exam. Ryusei checked his chakra flow, so far so good. It was calm, and then… boom! He flared his chakra again, distracting some parents nearby who had their Byakugan activated to better watch their kids. Whoops! He backed up a little, then moved to stand closer to one wall.
Glancing back at the center stage, he saw that the current kiddo was melting under the pressure. Ryusei felt kind of bad for the kid. Nice guy, knew his stuff, what little there was to know at this stage of life.Heck, he had even told Ryusei how to do the Genjutsu Release tech. But the poor guy was trembling in front of the audience. Ryusei badly wanted to encourage the kid, but he knew that the little ninja student would have a far more dangerous form of pressure in the real world, and if he could not hold up now….. Well… yeah…..
It was kind of hilarious though, the blatant errors that appeared whenever the guy tried to form the clone technique. First it was his pet dog. Then it was a warped version of himself, wearing pajamas, and an egg for a head. And the rest, well, it got worse from there. Ryusei had to stifle his laughter and looked away so he could focus on controlling his chakra in such ways that he might be able to break genjutsu, but the audience also was a single source of chortling and other expressions of mirth and this proved a bit distracting. This is what those headphone thingies were for. Putting them on, Ryusei looked like your stereotypical disengaged young adult – uninterested in interactions with the outside world. Concentrating again, he flared his chakra again, and achieved the flow rate that the poor guy being escorted off the stage, had told Ryusei would be necessary.
He was right though, Ryusei had checked it up in the library himself. The only kid in the village who seemed to ever bother reading, was in sad shape at the moment. Practicing the Genjutsu release tech without a genjutsu to break free from, flowing his chakra rapidly again, Ryusei began reviewing the details for the next jutsu. The basic medical thingy, the one that all medics had to learn first. Ryusei was not sure how much aptitude he had for medical stuff, but if he seemed to have aptitude for the medical arts based on how fast he learned this jutsu, he might, just might pursue a secondary career as a doctor, or a medical ninja person.
But first, he needed a thing to heal. Turning to the wall next to him, he punched it as hard as he could. Ouch. His knuckles ached but the wall was too smooth to break the skin right away. He almost punched the wall a second time, but considered that if he broke his skin on a smooth surface, he might also break some bones, and he would rather not sit in the hospital instead of the genin exams.
Instead, he did a smarter thing. Reaching across his body to one of his pouches, where he had a bundle of kunai contained, he withdrew one, and held it in the hand that had not punched the wall, and was not consumed with pain as a result. He shook his pained hand a little, instinctively, though he knew it would not do much. Then, in full sight of only a few people, his kind of tall body obscuring the sight from the rest, he pricked himself in the arm, with the kunai, aiming for an area not above significant amounts of muscle to reduce the risk should he slip. A bit of blood began to ooze out slowly, and he began to concentrate chakra in his arm, trying to stimulate the blood cells. It took a while but the blood seemed to clot, though this was so slowly it could have been natural.
He tried making a bigger cut, and boy did he overdo it. Blood began to well up, fast, and sending all his chakra to the area only lessed the flow a little. Slowly though, he was able to get the cut to stop bleeding, significantly faster than it would have happened naturaly, that is to say after he would have bled to death. The remains of the cut formed a massive weal along the side of his fore arm, about four inches long, and the colour was that of an angry beet red. He was afraid to take his chakra away from stimulating the blood cells in case he started bleeding again, truth be told. On the other hand, at least he stopped the bleeding on his own….
