Bar Restoration [P]

Mission Details:

The bar had seen better days, since that fire a few weeks back Kana wondered how they'd go about fixing it but what she was surprised to find was that the owner of the bar had decided to contract shinobi to help them restoring the little place and Kana instantly knew she and Gunshin were going to go there to lend a hand. Looking over the mission details, it was mostly going to be listening to the foreman and doing as they were told, it wouldn't take them very long to get the job done between the two of them, Kana may be weaker than Gunshin but she was probably a fair bit stronger than the average person so she should fit right in as a regular worker among the rest of the construction crew, Gunshin would probably be one of the more useful people as she was already a lot stronger than Kana.

It was a bright and early morning, a bit chilly but nothing a small jacket wouldn't fix and Kana felt excited for the day, the mission wasn't very exciting but it was something a more tame than the whole dream invasions or bomb defusals they had been doing, this was basically just a regular job that she and Gunshin would be doing, there was no real danger or risk that most every day folk went through, it would take them being careless to even get hurt, it would take a freak accident for them to actually be killed doing such a simple task. She felt certain that Gunshin and her could get everything done pretty quickly and probably get it done before the afternoon if they were fast enough but that would depend on what exactly the foreman would have them doing, she knew a new bar top was probably in order but it was very much possible that the owner of the bar was getting more than just a new bar top installed, it wouldn't have taken so long for work to get started nor would it take two shinobi to get that task over and done with, she figured there would be more.

Arriving at the bar, Kana was a bit surprised to see a small group of men working away at the bar, coming and going from a small trailer for various tools and equipment to use within the bar, right besides the small trailer was a man who had a small table set up for blue prints. Stepping through the opening in the metal fences that had been placed around the bar, Kana knew she was getting looks from some of the adults, no doubt wondering what a little girl was doing here but she paid them no mind, she approached what she assumed to be the foreman. "Hi, I'm Kana. I'll be one of the shinobi working with you for today." Kana spoke with a polite tone, getting the man's attention who turned to look down at her, a bit skeptical but he didn't seem outright opposed to the idea. "Rengoku. We should have a vest and helmet in the trailer, might not fit you right but they don't really make children sized work safety equipment." The man introduced him with a gruff voice, turning his attention back to the table and scribbling numbers and other stuff onto a piece of paper, for what purpose wasn't something Kana didn't really care for, she was sure if it was important he'd tell her.

Kana instead made her way into the trailer, the thing was small and packed with various construction tools and equipment placed in various spots, it was a bit messy and chaotic but it looked like an organized mess, she could see a ball point hammer, a regular clawed hammer and even a rubber mallet in one container while on the wall she could see a crowbar and sledge hammer resting by a hammer jack. It made some amount of sense and she doubted the workers needed to know the exact place of everything, just the general idea of where everything was, speaking of which she saw a bunch of yellow vests just hanging on one side of the wall in various sizes and Kana picked one of the smallest she could find. It was baggy loose and probably about 3 sizes too big for her but she was used to baggy clothing, she only recently had the luxury of proper warm clothing that fit her perfectly. The helmet on the other hand was at least able to be adjusted, the strap inside could be adjusted and while the helmet was oversized on the harder plastic shell, the inside of the straps fit well enough that she wouldn't have to worry about it fall off her head.

Dressed in the safety gear, Kana stepped out of the trailer and wasn't too surprised to see Gunshin waiting for her, Kana giving her friend a small smile and wave as she stepped past her to speak to the foreman once again. "Alright, what are we doing?" She asked the man who looked her up and down, likely judging how the safety equipment fit her and seemingly pleased with what he saw he gestured his head over to the side. "Out in back is a tree that's been growing far too big. You two are going to cut it down and put it off to the side. Someone else will come take it out alongside the rest of the trash inside the bar." Rengoku explained with his usual gruff voice, once again turning his attention back to the table to resume writing whatever it was that he was writing. Cutting down a tree and moving it to some garbage dump, not ideal but not the worst thing to be doing as a shinobi, although undoubtedly Gunshin would be the most helpful in this area unlike Kana who had been taking lead on most of their missions. "Grab some saws... Or axes... Or something while you're in there." Kana would call out to her friend who had retreated to the trailer to get her own safety gear, trusting the meek girl to grab whatever she thought they'd need to cut down the overgrown tree.

Gun had also been excited about the relatively carefree set of missions they had agreed to take. Danger wasn't something they'd need to worry about and it was helping out a business that had provided for Gun and her mother since they'd moved to Sakuragakure no Sato. In a way, it was sort of a way for Gun to give back to the bar owner who'd given her mother a job and let her take some leftovers home every now and then. The leftovers were really what Gun had been grateful for, though now that she was a "working woman" like her mother, she had a greater understanding of how far a ryo went. The fact that Gun was getting ryo while "giving back" to the business that employed her motehr was just icing on the cake. Of course, now that Gun was doing higher ranked missions and bringing in some decent amounts of money, her mother didn't really need to continue working. She wanted to keep working though, something like "I've been working my tail off for 20 years... I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I weren't working somewhere." Despite that fact, Gun had noticed that her mother was a much happier lady now that she no longer had the stress of the family's finances hanging over her head. With their two incomes, they no longer had to worry about their next meal and paying rent.

Gun headed towards her mother's place of employment, her mother still back in bed having worked late the night before: it was a bar after all. It also made sense for the bar to get work done early in the morning, so that they didn’t have to close during business hours. The sun's bright rays shone through the Sakura blossoms as Gun strode through the village that she now called home. It was different from other places she lived, though that was mostly due to her own feeling of belonging and her desire to protect and serve the village as a whole. But also partially because it was a hidden village, with gates and guards, not just a settlement that no one seemed to care about. Gun just hoped all of the vagabonds and former missing ninja that had joined the village also had the same desire to protect and serve the village, part of her worried that they would bail if things got tough.

Gun arrived, introducing herself to a gentleman that referred to himself as Rengoku, who pointed her to the trailer where the “other shinobi” was getting ready. Gun knew the “other shinobi” was Kana, so she stepped up to the door so when Kana came out, she’d be the first person Kana saw. With a wave and a friendly smile, Gun greeted her teammate and then the two kunoichis stepped past each other, Gun going inside the trailer to get her a helmet and vest while Kana went to speak to Rengoku again. Gun grabbed a vest and tossed it on, it was big, but she didn’t mind too much. She then started back outside to join Kana.

"Out in back is a tree that's been growing far too big. You two are going to cut it down and put it off to the side. Someone else will come take it out alongside the rest of the trash inside the bar." Gun arrived just in time to hear Rengoku’s explanation of what they were supposed to do. Cutting down a tree is going to be easy, Gun thought to herself before realizing that she’d forgotten a helmet. She skipped back over to the trailer to grab one when Kana called out.

"Grab some saws... Or axes... Or something while you're in there." Gun looked around, wondering if she should use one of their tools, or just use one of her own. She finally grabbed a saw and an axe before tossing a helmet on her head and rejoining Kana outside. Her excited face resembled that of a kid’s in a candy shop; a large smile crossing it from ear to ear. She waved her friend on as she led the way out back.

She laid the saw and ax down, having grabbed them for Kana, and removed one of her javelins from her uniform. ”After that bath house mission, it’s my turn to show off.” Gun’s smile almost seemed to get bigger, if that were humanly possible. Wasting no time, Gun began to surge water chakra into her weapon, which she held with just her right hand. She then ran towards the tree and up it with ease fully utilizing her speed and the Surface Walking technique. As she moved up, she began slicing at the limbs, letting gravity carry them to the ground. For those she couldn't reach, a watery crescent would shoot from her weapon, easily separating the limbs from the tree's trunk. The larger limbs would land with a thud, some even snapped as they landed awkwardly. Somehow, Gun had cut each limb in a way that each would fall away from the bar, leaving the building safe and the tree naked from the top to the bottom. On her way back down, Gun would slice the trunk every feet feet, letting them also fall to the ground below. As she landed on the ground, a five foot high trunk was all that remained of the tree.

Gun looked to Kana, a slight amount of perspiration visible on her forehead. ”Not too bad, huh?"

Kana waited outside with her arms crossed, watching as the regular construction works went about their day running back and forth, talking to Rengoku who would give them some information and send them back to work before he'd resume writing down more things, some times crossing off things or adding them based on what was said, all the while in the back of her mind she was trying to figure out just how exactly they'd cut down the tree, Kana sure as hell didn't know what to do beyond chop at the base of the tree but seeing how close to the buildings and how heavy the tree probably was, she somehow didn't think doing that would even be possible without damaging something or hurting themselves. Before she could think on that any longer, Gunshin finally came out with a saw and axe in hand, a wide smile on her face and Kana was a bit surprised to see her friend so excited and happy to work but then again, this was were Gunshin's mother worked and the owner wasn't a bad guy either, they had some times allowed the two girls to come in for a quick bite on slower days and not to mention the left overs Gunshin was allowed to bring with her to the academy were pretty damn good food too.

As the duo arrived at the back, she watched as Gunshin set aside the axe and saw, proudly proclaiming that it was her time to show off and Kana raised an eyebrow, intrigued and curious what the meek girl had been learning, she hadn't seen her friend in action for a while and she had to admit, she was looking forward to what skills she had developed as a swordswoman. "Alright hot shot, let's see what you can do." Kana said with a grin as she moved to the side, content to see what exactly her friend would do, part of her wondering if she'd just slice the tree in a single stroke of her blade and rather or not that would be a good idea but she held her tongue, she was sure her friend had something in mind. Javelin in hand, Gunshin raced up the tree, chopping at each branch with a strange jutsu at the end of her blade, she was sure she had seen it in action before, only realizing that it was the same jutsu the meek girl had used against the strange serpent like creature that came from the rift.

Kana watched as the branches fell off the tree, she didn't fail to notice how the branches were falling in certain angles, the smooth cuts were at angles and they fell with the slice and away from the bar and she watched as Gunshin just as quickly begun to make her way down, chopping through the thick log with ease into more manageable chunks to be dealt with later. "You know, if you were just going to do that, you could've just left the saw and ax in the trailer." Kana commented as Gunshin made it back to the ground, standing there with a pride smile on her face, a sight that cause Kana to smile as well as she shook her head. "Didn't think that jutsu was that strong, saved us a whole lot of effort. I'll toss the logs and branches toward the garbage dump, get some rest. Good work Gunshin."  Kana had to commend her friend however, she barely even knew what she would do and cutting the branches off the tree was not something she probably would've done, nor did she think she would've been able to done it even a quarter as fast as Gunshin had managed to do.

Allowing Gunshin a moment of rest while Kana handled the rest of work had seemed obvious, the meek girl had done her fair share of the work and Kana wasn't going to let her handle all of the work here, moving the logs and branches only took a few minutes before she begun to lead her friend back to the front to find Rengoku, the man talking with yet another worker before noticing the two shinobi approaching. "Good work you two, that was faster than I expected." The man spoke in his usual gruff voice but there was a hint of surprise as he spoke while looking down at the duo. "Since you two were so fast, you can get started in demolishing the washroom. My guys just finished removing the toiletry, stalls and sinks, so you're free to go wild in there. Just don't punch holes into the outer walls." Rengoku explained with a simple gesture of his head toward the bar, content to let the two girls get to work once again, Kana turning her attention to her friend for a moment.

"Should I even get anything for this or you got any other fancy things in your sleeve for this one?" Kana would ask, half joking, half serious, unsure if Gunshin would have a jutsu that would actually help them or not. "Actually, hold on, don't answer that. Let's make this a bit more fun, let's see who can finish their washroom first, loser buys lunch." Kana quickly decided, she had something in mind that might be able to help her defeat her friend in a race to destroy the washroom, a new jutsu she hadn't yet shown off just yet but something she knew would definitely make it more even than if she went at it alone. With the bet made, Kana set to work on grabbing her own supplies that she thought she'd need to destroy the washroom's walls and flooring, the sledge hammer, crowbar and hammer all seemed pretty obvious but she made sure to grab herself a spare sledge hammer for what she was planning. Making their way toward the washrooms, Kana decided she'd take the guy's washroom simply because it was a bit closer to the entrance.

"Good luck." She'd tell Gunshin before entering the washroom and almost immediately she set her tools aside and run through a set of hand seals, two clones of Kana popping out right in front of her and the trio each had a grin, giving each other a nod before picking up their tools and quickly getting to work on destroying the washroom, one clone at the end, the real Kana near the entrance while the other clone worked on destroying the floor. Three hands were far better than working alone, but would it be enough to overcome Gunshin's natural strength?

Gun was glad that she had gotten to show her own improvement and advancement to Kana. It wasn't in the heat of battle, but both kunoichi could see how it would be used in a battle situation. Gun still thought Kana's technique, the invisibility one, was way cooler as it could be used in so many situations. Gun's tech could be used for cutting... and that was it. But it was good at cutting, and Gun had realized at some point that her and Kana were like complimentary: she was good at cutting and doing damage while Kana was good at just about everything else. Both were necessary for the village and both had a place and together they formed a pretty capable team. The look on Kana's face, while not one of outright amazement, was proud of what Gun had learned and could now accomplish. That was enough to help and motivate Gun to keep going with her training.

"Should I even get anything for this or you got any other fancy things in your sleeve for this one?" Gun shrugged at Kana's question, trying to consider the tools in her jutsu toolbox and whether any of them would be sufficient for this particular task. "Actually, hold on, don't answer that. Let's make this a bit more fun, let's see who can finish their washroom first, loser buys lunch."

"Okay!" Gun exclaimed; she wasn't necessarily excited because she thought she could win, but because it seemed like a fun way to get the work done. She knew Kana well enough to know that she hadn't suggested this wager without some sort of plan. Gun was, afterall, a rather speedy individual which Kana knew so a race of any sort wasn't something to be suggested willy nilly... especially with money and food on the line. It was alright though, Gun didn't mind buying Kana lunch when they were done with the work here.

"Good luck." Kana said as she ducked into her washroom. Gun knew she was up to something, but she couldn't really do anything about it. She took her tools in and started getting to work, the worst part for her was worrying about using too much force. The walls weren't made out of any sort of reinforced material so the hammer with Gun's strength could easily go through both the inner and outer walls if she weren't careful. Moving quickly, she gutted the floors before moving onto the walls. It wasn't particularly fun, but knowing she was trrying to beat Kana made it better and less monotonous.

She made the final touch, completing the work and stepped out the door, claiming "Done!" She wasn't sure if Kana was done yet or not...

The trio of Kanas worked in silence, tearing through the floors and walls bit by bit with renewed energy and determination, she wasn't entirely sure if the three them would make up for Gunshin's physical prowess and any other hidden jutsu the meek girl may have in store, if it could make the job as easy as her water cutting jutsu thing did to cutting down the three than Kana knew for sure the battle was lost before it even begun but as she worked away at demolishing the washroom's walls and floors, she didn't hear anything that sounded too out of the ordinary coming from Gunshin's side of the washroom, sure she was working faster than what most normal people would be capable of but Kana wasn't no slouch when it came to working either and with two copies by her side, she was more than certain she would end up winning their little bet, although she wasn't even sure what she felt like eating for lunch today either, especially with Gunshin buying.

Glancing over at the other Kanas, the real one was pleased to see that she was making great progress, the southern wall was already taking apart to reveal the insulation on the inside and Kana number 2 had made decent progress on the eastern wall with the sledge hammer tearing decent chunks off, no signs of any studs being damaged just yet either. Kana number 3 had been in charge of destroying the ceramic floor tiles had already made her way half way through the room, smashing away with the spare sledge hammer against the tiles and smashing them apart to reveal what Kana assumed to be the foundation of the building. Kana herself had taken the normal hammer to smash away around the light switches and around the door frame before making her way toward the western wall, far slower progress but she wasn't about to use the crowbar, that thing was going to make her hands sore without any gloves or something else to pad the metal on her hands while she struck pieces of the walls down.

Eventually a few minutes later, maybe less than 20 minutes and the three Kanas had finished their work and she assumed the regular construction workers would be cleaning the mess they left behind, they had already done the heavy lifting after all of smashing things apart. Exiting into the bar itself, Kana was pleased to see that Gunshin hadn't finished and sharing a look with the trio, they all nodded and Kana number 2 and 3 hide inside the washroom as Kana waited outside, a small grin on her face as Gunshin exited a few minutes later, pretty impressive for the meek girl to finish so quickly but she didn't expect anything less of her friend. "Looks like someone is buying us lunch~" Kana spoke in a sing song tune, the other two Kanas coming out with small grins of their own while holding the spare tools that the real Kana had brought in.

"Hope you made plans to treat four people, we are quite hungry after all that hard work." The second Kana spoke in the same teasing tone as she took her place on Kana's right, the third Kana taking the spot on the left. "I could eat a nice big meal myself, I don't know about you two." Kana three continued the same teasing tone as she looked over toward the other Kanas, who both nodded their agreement for a nice big meal. In the back of the real Kana's mind, she did kinda wonder what would happen if a shadow clone ate actual food, would the remains of the food just... Plop onto the ground after the clone was dispersed? She might have to test that for herself later on.

"This is pretty cool though, right? Shadow clones! They can actually do stuff!" Kana would proudly declare, behind her the other two shadow clones swapped sledge hammers as proof they could actually move and work on their own unlike the academy version of clones that were mere projections of the real deal. "Come on, let's go see what Rengoku has to do for us, it should be a lot faster with the four of us here." Kana said as she lead her meek friend and the other copies back to the man in charge of the construction, the man only turning to look toward her and the other Kanas with a raised eyebrow before deciding not to comment on the sudden batch of triplets that were now working for him.

"Alright ladies, only thing left on the agenda I got for you.... Four... is to install a new bar top. It just got delivered, should be waiting for you around back. Thing is pretty heavy but with the four of you, it should be no problem. Just get that inside, my boys should be finishing up with the old burnt bar top and ready to install it once you bring it in." Rengoku spoke, only hesitating slightly as he considered rather or not to address the kunoichi as a duo or a quad now that shadow clones were involved before settling on just accepting there was four workers now. "Sounds easy enough, let's do it." Kana number 3 said as she begun to lead the way forward with the others following along.

Jumping out of the washroom, Gun was only partially surprised to see Kana already there, waiting for her. She was curious how her fellow genin had beat her, but she was also sure Kana would tell her if she waited.

"Looks like someone is buying us lunch~" Kana gloated, her words giving Gun a clue to how she’d beaten her. Gun didn’t have time to piece it together before two more Kanas waltzed out of the washroom, tools in hand. Gun still wasn’t sure how clones could have been helpful, considering they are unable to truly affect things… unless she had somehow created better clones. The meek kunoichi ignored the teasing and taunting, waiting for a full explanation for how Kana had won.

"This is pretty cool though, right? Shadow clones! They can actually do stuff!"

”No way!” Gun exclaimed, not able to control herself in the moment. Her mind instantly went to how useful having three Guns could be in a situation, spears flying from different directions.

"Come on, let's go see what Rengoku has to do for us, it should be a lot faster with the four of us here." Kana said, pulling Gun from her own thoughts leading to her following to see the foreman.

"Alright ladies, only thing left on the agenda I got for you.... Four... is to install a new bar top. It just got delivered, should be waiting for you around back. Thing is pretty heavy but with the four of you, it should be no problem. Just get that inside, my boys should be finishing up with the old burnt bar top and ready to install it once you bring it in."

Gun simply nodded, wondering in the back of her mind if she were even needed for this task. Three Kanas could probably handle moving a bar top, she mused, but she went along with the group regardless. Out behind the bar, where some workers were still removing the last of the tree that Gun had helped butcher, the foursome found a large cedar plank, measuring about ten feet long and four feet wide.

Gun moved to one end, gripping it as best she could and lifting that end, testing its weight. It was definitely not the lightest thing she’d ever picked up, but her strength was sufficient for carrying that half. The Kanas moved to the other end and did the same, finding their strength also suitable for carrying it. Once all four had a grip, they began moving inside. Gun moved backwards, one of the Kana giving instructions like "Watch out for that saw.” or "To your left. Soon enough the four had carried the plank through the doorway to where the old bar top used to be. Four guys grabbed the plank and took it from the kunoichis, lifting it up to where it would eventually be installed.

Now that they were all done with the work, they returned the safety equipment. Gun finally asked ”Ok ladies,” a smile crossing her face as she spoke ”Where to for lunch?”
