An Extension of Yourself

Asami wandered the bustling market streets, a paper bag full of sweets hanging from one hand while she browsed the windows of the shops she passed. She had come out to buy some dango and mochi to take home and share with her father, but she wasn't in any rush to get home. Shopping could be a relaxing past-time, which she supposed was one thing that she had in common with most girls her age.

As she walked past the weapons shop, the display of sharpened steel in the window caught her eye, and she stopped to look at the array of kunai and shuriken, some of which came in unique designs she had not seen before. “They look nice, right?” The shopkeeper’s voice came from the door, and Asami looked up to see a red headed woman smiling at her. “We have a lot of different weapons in stock, I’m sure there is something that will suit a promising kunoichi like yourself. Would you like to take a look?”

Asami tilted her head, glancing inside to the racks that lined the walls. She had never really considered using weapons, as her clan were taijutsu specialists. But she did sometimes wonder if a weapon might give her a unique edge, something that she could make her own that would set her apart from the rest. “Alright, let’s have a look,” she said, passing the pleased shopkeeper as she walked through the door.

“These are some of our most popular choices,” the shopkeeper points out, indicating a rack of katanas, kamas with chains, and chakra blades. “Feel free to take them down and get a feel for them, see how you like them! We have some straw dummies in the back room for testing them out.” Asami nodded her understanding, first examining one of the kamas with a chain attached and taking it down off the shelf, letting the bladed sickle hang down by her feet. She took it over to the back room, giving the chain a bit of a swing, making the sickle go in a circular motion. Her eyes locked onto the straw dummy, and she swung her arm out, launching the sickle and watching as its point struck and lodged itself into the dummy’s body. It would do some damage, she supposed, but it seemed a bit unwieldy. She went to retrieve it, yanking it out of the straw before going and returning it to its shelf.

“Something different, I think,” she mused, her eyes falling onto the selection of katanas. The cool, sharpened steel glinted in the light, and the handle was wrapped in a rich red fabric with golden accents. ‘Beautiful,’ she thought, picking it up gently. She held it in both hands, feeling its weight. The sword was nicely balanced, and felt good in her grip. She took it with her into the back room, where she lifted it above her head and did a few practice swings, before stepping and slashing in a wide arc towards the dummy, watching as the sharpened edge made a deep cut in the straw. Asami smiled.This just might work.

Taking the blade back to the front counter, Asami presented it to the shopkeeper. “How much for this one?” she asked, taking out her purse. “Oh, wonderful choice! Let’s see… that blade is 3,000 ryo.” Nodding, Asami took out the money and handed it over, sliding the blade into its polished red scabbard and hearing a satisfying click as it locked into place. Happy with her purchase, Asami tied its cord over her shoulder, letting the scabbard hang from her back while she left for home to deliver the sweets, then she was eager to get to the training grounds to start practicing with her new weapon. If she wanted to develop a new fighting style, she had to start now.

Hey, Hiroki here, can you please link where you got the first Mastery for half-handseals for Genjutsu Release? As I'm not seeing it on your stat page. Otherwise it will cost 500 to Master it for No Handseals as No Handseals counts as 2 Mastery Slots
