Emi looked at the boy. Years of makeup that covered this much? She shuddered at imagining the price. Emi was not hugely for makeup anyways. It was definitely nice, but over the top for day to day shit.

Imagining years of that, every day, even if it was just a foundation layer...

"On, you're going to fall in love with a spray tan when we get back," Emi said. To the comment about spotting the boy, she just waved her hand, as if saying 'no matter'.

It would not be long until the old lady that had convinced Emi to help out came over. She tried to put on her best smile.

It was not very convincing. Look, this lady, as far as Emi was concerned, was the sole reason she spent almost the entire day in a boat watching out for people rather than just being at the beach enjoying herself today.

"Good job, you two. Not often anything actually happens here. Look, I know that sort of shit can be traumatic," Oh boy, here we go, her pretentious shit again Emi thought. She had no love for this woman and would likely go out of the way to avoid her in the future.

"But we're still short staffed and really need you two to stick around until the replacements show up! Sorry about the bother!"

Emi sighed. Why did she just know that this person could get worse? It was kind of impressive. There were about two minutes left. Rather that respond, Emi made a show of stomping back to the boat before setting off the shore.

"Oh, you're going to fall in love with a spray tan when we get back." Mieru shrugged, not really sure what she was talking about, but also lacking the energy to follow up. It was at this moment that he saw an old lady walking up. He didn’t recognize her. He had gotten his job this morning based off of a flier and talking to some other lifeguard that told him he would get paid at the end of the day. He mentioned something about the person who would pay them, but after today, Mieru had forgotten what exactly. Based on what the old lady was saying, he assumed this was her.

"But we're still short staffed and really need you two to stick around until the replacements show up! Sorry about the bother!"

Mieru began to laugh. “No. Just… no. I don’t have the energy for this. I don’t have the energy to argue, I just don’t care. A kid almost drowned, let’s just say this part of the beach is closed, you know, cause almost dead kid.” 

The woman started to protest, but Mieru ignored her as he walked over and grabbed a sign that said something about staying off the dunes. He stabbed it right in the middle of the walkway to this stretch of the beach, then pulled out a kunai and carved, Beach closed. SHARKS!

The women spluttered out something or other that Mieru ignored entirely, before holding out his hand to the women for payment. His entirely to white skin was now fully visible as he stared the women down, a strange not quite right in the head expression on his face. “Money.”

The woman looked very annoyed, but not quite sure what else to do, before she handed him his pay. Mieru took it, then pulled 50 ryo out and handed it back. “For the sign.” Before he walked over, grabbed his umbrella and shoes, and walked away.

Once out of sight, Mieru stopped and took multiple deep breaths. He hated that little act he had just put on. The stress of putting on that act was almost too much for him at this point, but he needed to get away from that beach. He needed to get out of there and just let today end.
