As the lad made off with his fish and left Kaito and his companion with the remainder of the beer and food, Kaito waved and threw in a word of appreciation for the gesture. Maybe it was the harsh nature of life in the Kumogakure, or maybe he had grown to be a bitter man, but he was not used in the least to random acts of kindness, much less from complete strangers who shared nothing in common with him. His mind drifted once again to the elderly couple who'd helped him with the final expenses for this trip; they had no reason to trust him, yet they found some tasks he could do to earn a few extra ryo and take part in the competition.

He looked in his bucket, the fish within, motionless. Such a fish would be able to feed him, maybe another if they rationed or had side dishes. In his hand rested the invitation to the club's dinner event, another unrequested act of kindness from the stranger. "Why is this happening? It makes absolutely no sense…"

As the fish failed to bite, a sensation of disappointment, fear and confusion mixed within the ninja, who gathered his belongings and excused himself from the other lad, taking a bow as he left. He made into the woods, amd in the thick of 'em, blasted a fire into life on top of which he prepared the caught fish. From his pocket he took a very careful prepared package, which contained a mixture of dried rosemary, lemon zest, sea salt, and a mixture of red and black pepper. He smeared the fish with it and blazed it aflame, skewered on a stick, and ate it alone in the food, reflecting.

What would drive someone to be kind for kindness sake? What could make him more like that? He had enjoyed feeling accounted for and cared for. Then why did he retreat into the woods to meditate alone instead of reciprocating the kind gesture with his presence at the dining event? Shame washed the kumogakure ninja. "Not worthy. Not yet."

As his companions drifted off back to their own lives Eliwood stayed sat by the waters edge. He looked at the fish he caught now resting on a pile of ice from Taki's cooler. It wasn't a large fish at all but he was happy to participate in the competition. He had met some nice people and saw a beautiful country. He might like to call this place home some day. If he ever settled down somewhere that is.

He brought his fish in to the weighing hall not expecting anything other than a "Thanks for trying." However, he was greeted with 3rd place and some prize money. Along with the money came a ticket for a free drink at the bar which he happily would use. A bar was another great place to meet friends.

The prize money was of little consequence to the monk but he would not turn it down. It could come in handy in a pinch, or maybe he could buy himself a better instrument. He had to admit one thing about money. It definitely opened up a lot of possibilities.

After leaving the country club he would head off in no particular direction. Allowing the wind to carry him wherever he would be next.
