Repair the (Next) Bridge! (Haru and Hinoki)
Sun Sep 25, 2016 3:45 pm
Repair the Bridge!
Haru walked quickly through the center of the town intent on starting his next job. The village mission recruiters had been pleased with his previous efforts on repairing one of the great bridges and had offered him the job of repairing a slightly larger one on the other side of the village. Haru was keen to accept though he had a moment of doubt when he discovered that Hinoki had already accepted the job and that they would be working side by side. Haru wasn't exactly sure what to think about Hinoki, the older boy always seemed so arrogant in class yet when they spoke at the academy a few days ago he revealed that he wasn't perhaps as haughty and self-loving as he proclaimed and maybe even had a touch of humility and humbleness at his core. Haru pondered the enigma that was Hyuga Hinoki for a few moments before shaking his head and focusing on the task at hand. He was beginning to approach the agreed meeting point whilst he lightly practiced the latest technique he had been working on. Haru had spent hours flipping through the jutsu encyclopedia and had come to the conclusion that he would need to put some time and effort into at least learning a few even if they did not come as naturally to him as weapons training. He had chosen a fairly practical jutsu to begin learning and one that also could come in handy with his preferred weapon training.
Haru concentrated in building up his chakra and imagined it as a skin like layer over his skin before converting it into wind chakra. After a few second he clapped his hands together and forcefully released the wind chakra in front of him and was pleased to see the mist get blown back violently though he personally winced at creating noise with his body. he repeated the exercise a few more times as he walked, testing which directions he could release the technique in correctly whilst facing forwards. Haru was about to use the technique again when he caught the lingering smell of Hinoki's cigarette smoke and wrinkled his nose. Hinoki's was about 30 meters away by Haru's calculation thought the thick morning fog obscured his vision it did not hamper his sense of hearing or smell much. in fact recently his sense of smell had improved somewhat allowing him to make out slight variations in similar scents and occasionally he thought he could nearly recognize people's locations at a distance based on smell alone. haru spotted Hinoki and walked his usual silent tread creating no noise as he moved through the fog like a ghost. the strange silence around him was broken as he spoke after stopping right behind Hinoki. "Shall we start then? it shoudln't take to long with the two of us."

Hinoki had woke up later than usual thus he saw fit to use up his extra energy into a harder mission than usual, A D-Rank. Having missed the breakfast his mother had cooked, he lazily walked to the Administration building and took out a random D-Rank Mission brief, signed that he was going to do it and headed towards the Ramen Store for his afternoon breakfast. As he made his way there, he took out the mission brief and actually gave it a good read. “Repairing a bridge? Tiring work” he sighed to himself, swearing that he will read before accepting missions from now on. "Maybe I can practice that body improvement Jutsu I have been working on. Should help me wrap things up faster. And the pay is double than usual.” He thought to himself, at least happy that he won’t be wasting all his time. He plopped down in the Ramen store, ordered two bowls Super Wasabi Ramen Special, An Upgrade of his dish and a side of Takoyaki. Knowing fully that his new Jutsu will be taking a toll on him, he wanted to make sure he had a filled stomach to back him up. He wolfed down both bowls the down as if there was no tomorrow. He then wolfed down the octopus balls, payed the Ramen Man and started making his way to the broken bridge with a full stomach. He didn’t bother to check who was going to be assigned with him, if anyone was; but he hoped it was not some dead weight genin as usual.
As he was close to his intended location, His mind thinking about the Upcoming Chunin Exams and trying to plan some schedule of naps and training; A Voice pulled him out of his thoughts. A really close voice. Springing Immediately into action, He activates his Byakugan as he lowered himself and spins to as he then forms a Tenketsu Needle (Speed 65) with one hand and is a move in his fist when he actually comes to the realization that his would be assailant is fallow is his fellow Genin, Haru. As the realization dawns on him, He barely stops his attack. Raising himself and taking a step back, He gives Haru an embarrassed grin. “I’m not really going to apologize for something you practically invited yourself into. But no harm done, Aye?” he says with a small laugh. He turns back to continue making his way to the bridge. “I’m guessing you are for the bridge work too. That’s good, you are a good bloke.” he says as he approaches the wooden planks that were propped up against a nearby tree, to be used in their mission. “I’ll carry the planks; you hammer them in? Is that good with you?” If Haru agrees; Hinoki will do the Seven Heavens Breath’s first hand seal as his byakugan dissipates into white and a yellow sheen radiates off him. He would then pick up all the planks, something impossible for normal Hinoki but possible in this state and with enhanced speed walks towards the bridge.

Haru watched Hinoki spin around and realized that the older Genin was attacking and Haru reacted swiftly as he slightly shifted his weight onto his left leg moving his torso slightly though it may not have been enough to dodge the strike. haru's hands had moved faster however and he adopted a strange defensive posture with his hands with fingers interlaced like the horse seal but with the palms both horizontal and the finger tips pointing down whilst the thumbs pointed at a slight angle as though he intended to try and use his hands to cushion the strike. At the last moment Hinoki pulled back the strike and would see a concentration of chakra built up in Haru's hands and extending out of his fingertips to appear as thin white blades accompanied with a small high pitched noise before Haru relaxed and his chakra flow returned to normal. Haru returned his hands to his pocket and grinned apologetically. "Sorry, didn't mean to catch you off guard like that i sometimes forget how quite i am." Haru shrugged a little. "Force of habit i'm afraid. Yeah i worked on one of the other bridges last week and its pretty good pay and the villagers usually just need a hand getting started or repairing the parts they cant reach so it shouldn't take us too long. Haru paused slightly at the compliment and replied a little awkwardly. "Thanks uh you too. Sure i can hammer them on. You get them set up and i will remove the broken ones ahead of you then come back and nail them down" Haru darted ahead into the mist with his silent gait and could have been mistaken as a fleeting ghost by a passerby. He stepped lightly and stopped at a group of broken planks before clapping his hands and expelling a gust of wind to clear the mist a little so he could work faster.
Haru infused a small amount of wind chakra into his kunai and began swiftly cutting the planks into equal segments before placing them in a large sack like bag that was left with the nails and hammer under the planks. After a short while or so he had removed the worst of the planking that needed to be replaced and took note of the others that would need replacing if they had enough planks. before leaving the large gap in the bridge he quickly created a clone to stay on the other side of the gap before returning to Hinoki and remembering to exaggerate his footfalls so they would be heard when he was several meters away. As Haru came into view he grinned and stamped his foot lightly a couple of times creating a small tapping noise on the wood."didn't want to give you a reason to attack me again haha. I have cleared the rotten planks ahead, about 15 meters along there is a big gap so keep an eye on your feet, im going to drop the planks off then start hammering them in behind you."

Hinoki moved across the bridge with extreme efficiency, his body moving with strength and speed that was highly irregular for the Hyūga, epically considering he was renowned for his laziness and inability to hold any form of training schedule due to his great love of napping. This was as he knew fully that the time he could keep up his body improvement technique was limited and he didn’t want to end up holding up all those planks when the effects wore off, as it would be a one-way ticket to the cold oceans that lay below. So he put his mind to it and practically ran across the bridge laying down the planks, without even breaking a sweat or skipping a beat. He could feel the Jutsu slowly taking his toll over him and he couldn’t keep it up for much longer. In less than a minute he had laid down all the planks and jumped to the other side of the bridge, wobbling it with every step from his slightly obese figure. A few seconds after he made it safely to the other side of the bridge, he let out on big breath and his figure shriveled slightly as the golden glow around him dissipated and his eyes returned to their normal dark color. Hinoki’s breathing sped up and he started wheezing as he practically fell down on the floor, not even bothering to move up to a tree. His Jutsu had obviously taken a heavy toll on him and it was far from combat ready. Slowly regaining his composure, he managed to put down some wasabi seeds and got himself under the shade of the tree, as he suddenly was drenched from head to toe in sweat, Hinoki obviously believing that even in the misty weather the heat of the sun somehow managed to find itself to him albeit it was probably more a side effect of his unrefined Jutsu then the sun’s rays piercing the heavy mist that hung around this area.
As Haru finished catching up and nailing the last planks of the bridge, Hinoki looked up to him; barely able to lift his head he muttered “So…have you…heard anything about…the upcoming chunin exams?” Hinoki said, taking deep breaths between each part of the sentence as he lay flung across the tree trunk, not even bothering to straighten himself up due to a mix of tiredness and his laziness. He himself had not heard anything, but if someone knew anything about them, it was probably Haru.

Haru worked methodically and precisely and was impressed with Hinoki's pace and he felt sweat begin to gather a little on his back and forehead. After he was halfway through he began moving faster using chakra to enhance and distort his perception of time as he had done whilst training the day before. using the focused speed he completed 3 planks in the time it usually took to do one though it left him panting heavily and produced a light headed feeling. Soon he developed his rhythm again and his world became continued to the repetitive sounds and smells around him. the water beneath was crashing around the island rock creating occasionally sprays of salt water to mingle with the mist though by the standards of Kirigakure the seas was very peaceful despite the raging typhoon on its borders. After a while haru stopped hearing the soft sound of planks being placed on the bridge and realized he was nearly finished.
As he drew close to Hinoki he could smell the sweat and it was clear that the technique had taken a lot out of him as Haru gazed at the genin leaning against the tree. Haru considered Hinoki's question carefully before replying in even tones. "I only know about the previous Blood Games. it would seem that the Chunin exams follow no set structure and are possibly created by the Lord Mizukage on a whim. The only certainty is that it will be dangerous and that failure will mean death. If given the choice i would rather not fight you, though if we must at least i know it will be hard fought irrelevant of the outcome. There are plenty of genin i would much rather fight and a few i am certain i could defeat however there are a few with abilities that are problematic. either way it doesn't pay well to dwell on it. If we aren't successful then we weren't strong enough and its simple as that." Haru forced a smile as he leaned on the tree next to Hinoki. "you never know, lord Mizukage may choose to let us try again another time if we survive but fail haha." the laughter was forced and it was obvious that Haru held no delusions about the extent of the Mizukage mercy and compassion for failed Genin in his village.
Haru pushed off the tree and nodded towards the bridge. "Come on, lets go get our money and worry more about improving ourselves than the chunin exams. Haru strode ahead and almost as an after thought called back over his shoulder. "Do you hunt much?"

Hinoki barely managed to scuff up a laugh, what came what was more of a harking sound. “Yea, Don’t worry bloke, the rest of…the genin are easy…pickings. Only you and…me can provide a good…show…heh” he said. Hinoki could barely manage to push out those words out from his mouth. His limbs felt like stone, he could barely keep his eyes open on Haru as his head bobbed with tiredness. "Nah, Never...thought of going for a...hunt" Hinoki said with a yawn. “See you…around mate.” He said, his eyes slowly sinking as he was falling into the abyss of sleep.
