Mission Location: Lightning Country Borders - Waterfall of Truth
Challenges: --
Task: A curious waterfall lies in front of the entrance of the Tailed Beast Temple. It is tradition that before entering the temple, one must meditate at the waterfall's base. They will enter a place inside of their own mind, and truth of their heart shall emerge from the mirror-like water to confront them within their heart.
What parts of yourself do you hide? Which do you fear? Which do you doubt? Be mindful of what lurks inside of you, as you must overcome it in order to pass into the temple.
For centuries, this has been a rite of passage for Jinchuuriki of Kumogakure, and occasionally outside holders of tailed beasts as well. On occasion, the temple attracts those who simply desire to make peace with themselves - travellers, or rank and file shinobi of Kumogakure who desire to reach higher levels of perfection.
This mission may be attempted as a group, but beware - this may have dire consequences if your bonds of friendship are weak.

Fenn had been beaten down. He had lost his friends and his family. The man of his own fate had been wandering the world since he was a boy. Fenn had started back home , he had to accept the inevitable. Youka Tau had won, and that Kumo was going to be in his image. The demon inside of Fenn would not be quashed so easily. He made his presence known to the point that when Fenn had been doing research, he stumbled across some information. Apparently there was a waterfall not far from his old home. Since Fenn was on his way to die at the hands of the man how stole his home. Fenn decided to take the plunge and see what was up with the waterfall. Once he got there, Fenn would pay respects to the temple there and eventually spoke to them about using the waterfall so he could face the inner demon within and end a fight once and for all.
Once they approved of him , Fenn would make his way to the waterfall, wearing only a pair of approved shorts by the temple. Fenn would then take a meditative pose under the waterfall, Feeling the water pour down over his entire body, His head hung down, allowing the water to run down the sides of his face but not across the top of his face. After a few minutes of silence , Fenn would drift away into his meditative state. Inside of his Mindscape, Fenn was standing under the waterfall and across from him stood the rival he has faced even longer than Youka Tau....Yoko, His inner Demon.
The Demon had white hair as opposed to Fenn's Red hair. Everything else about the demon was just like Fenn, minus his eyes. The Burning red eyes that matched the hair stared back across at Fenn. It was going to be now or never for these two to finally have their face off. Fenn knew he had to be smart in this entire fight that was about to go down. The demon that stood across from him knew his every move and tactic. Once Fenn started to walk so did Yoko, the pair began to walk around in a circle, keeping their distance from each other. Fenn knew that this could only be fought with hand to hand combat. This entire fight would be a battle of Attrition and willpower. Could Fenn break Yoko's will, or would Yoko win out in the end.

Fenn stared down his doppelganger for awhile before the dash happened. Each dashed at the other, the clash that happened between the pair of them was harsh, and sent water everywhere. Each seemed equally matched, which they were the other, so of course they were. However Fenn had a lot to work out from within himself. The Hate for Youka Tau. The Anger for leaving Kumogakure when he could not defend it. The Mourning for the loss of Akihana. While Fenn had no official notice at the time, he could just feel it within his gut. He was not the man to end Youka despite his claims that he would be. He was not there for Akihana when she needed him most. Kumogakure was in a worse shape due to his failure. He centered all the blame upon himself. The Demon across from him was a remnant of the Beast that once resided within him. Fenn blamed the loss of the beast for the reason of his weakness he had faced during life. So Fenn did the only logical thing, this creation in front of him was just that, his own creation. Hatred for himself and the things he could not do melded together with the beast that once was. Fenn during his time away had come to understand certain aspects that had taken place just as he was born.
He was always watched closely by kage because none of them knew of the beasts removal, and yet they all knew of the beast that was within Fenn. None of them ever revealed the truth to him about such things. He found this stuff out himself from piecing certain pieces together and recently talking to the beast. But he had to put all that stuff behind him now. He would not let the failures of his past hold him back from protecting the village and doing his duties as a Shinobi of the village of Kumogakure. But while Fenn and the beast seperated , Fenn found his Kumo headband in his hand, and he put it upon his head. However the beast did the same....with the Amegakure ANBU Mask..... This monster was now using that place against him. Fenn had visited and found that his Leader from Amegakure had been killed in a sneak attack by someone with similar powers to Youka Tau, he assumed it was the same man. This man haunted his every failure in the past. And yet what Fenn realized as he looked upon the beast, was he became Youka Tau in his own way to fight the beast.
This was the truth he did not want to face, for his vengeance against Youka, he would allow himself to become the beast, or a part of him at least. This pissed Fenn off even more about himself, he would let that monster win again. Only this time the beast was winning over in his soul, changing Fenn from what he once was into a figure of destruction and fear. Fenn would roar at his double as these thoughts and realizations ran through his mind and he charged at the beast. However he allowed the monster to land several sound blows before causing them to separate into different directions. The beast would smile under his mask and taunt Fenn.
"What is the issue, figuring some things out? Need me to change shape maybe" At which time the Beast took form of the Youka Tau that Fenn knew and faced once upon a time years ago. Yet another Roar of rage, and this time the clash would be the beast toying with Fenn, Dodging and redirecting hits for a good minute before jumping backwards to create distance between them once more. "And yet what is worse, is you still cannot best the man, and he is dead" The beast taunted like no other time he had taunted before. He was no longer attacking physically and taunting to get what he wanted, but rather he was attacking Fenn verbally.
"And Yet somehow, he continued to torture you, when you found out he married Akihana and you stopped being a Shinobi!" Fenn Found his voice, and his lips moving to those words as he dropped to his knees sobbing. This Waterfall was indeed doing what it was meant to. Fenn was coming into realizations and having his mental breakdown the only way he knew how to anymore . Alone, By himself.

- Fenn was running a little late today for picking up Arata, a training exercise he gave himself took a little longer then expected, he shook his head as he cursed himself out, running at full tilt, nothing was slowing him down, if something got in his way, he would simply jump over it in some way, or jump up on a wall nearby with one foot and push off away from the wall, jumping behind what was previously in his way, he arrived five minutes late, and Arata's sensei reamed him for it, and after the sensei was done, Arata was allowed to be released to Fenn, and Arata would come running up to him "Nii-San, Can we go play at that park today?" Fenn would pant slightly and looked down at the adorable little guy and shook his head, "Sorry buddy not today, but we get to play horsey today" Fenn would turn around and dropped to one knee, the other leg being at the ready to run, he would nod to Arata "Come on and hop on my back" Arata would do as Fenn said, all happy like, legs hugging Fenn's ribs tightly, and arms wrapping around Fenn's neck he would shout out "YA HORSEY YA" And with those words Fenn would take off Running, once more nothing getting in his way, and little Arata on his back whooping and hollering in enjoyment, hanging on to Fenn's back tightly, Fenn would finally slide to a stop after passing the room that Akihana was in, and as they slide past the door Arata shouts out "MOMMY LOOK FENN-KUN IS A HORSEY" and Fenn would turn around and set Arata down, Fenn was slightly panting as he peaked around the corner, hopping that Akihana did not see any of the acrobatics he did with Arata on his back, but rather she did or not, here was Arata running into the room to see his mommy and telling her the WHOLE story and Fenn would just slap his forehead with the palm of his hand and wait to hear yet another reaming
Fenn was relieved not to get yelled at, and he would explain to Aki about why he was late, and then the yelling he received from Arata's Sensei, all the while she was scanning him with her jutsu, then as she went on to talk about the animals, he would smile softly, and as Arata asked about summoning a Wolf, Fenn would put his hands up "Whoa hold on a moment, wolves can be very Dangerous Arata, and I do not want you or your mommy put in that kind of danger, how about we will start with something small, yet easy to catch, how about a cat, we will catch one of them, use a Jutsu called Mark, let it free and chase it off, then have your Mommy Summon it back, how does that sound?" Fenn would smile as he watched for little Arata's reaction to the counter proposal, after all, never know when a wolf will turn into a mysterious man you never met before who gives you a valid paper stating you ranked up to Chuunin, and Akihana hurt herself to just pull that off, Fenn would not forgive himself for letting that happen to her, he would shake the thoughts and memories out of his head as he would continue to smile and await for the little one to answer, meanwhile, his eyes would cut up to Akihana to see if she liked the idea as well, or if a new one would have to be made
Fenn would chuckle softly as Akihana picked up Arata, and Fenn would already be picking up her bag by the time she made the gesture, and walking behind Akihana, and when Arata went nuts about the cat, Fenn would chuckle softly once more and shook his head "Not yet Arata, we must be patient and we need the lure before we attempt to catch the beast, just as your mommy acted as a lure so that I could surprise the beast from underground" Fenn would tell Arata the story about capturing the wolf, and how they got the next rank on Shinobi, meanwhile, as he kept Arata's attention, it allowed them to pass by the cat to the market, and Fenn would place some ryo down on the stall and asked for two things of milk, and as they were put up on the stall, Fenn would grab, then leave the little bit extra ryo for the man to pocket, he would look to Akihana "Alright now we have the milk, lets go find a place to get a cat" He thought back to the cat they just past by, and Fenn's experience with animals as of late, nothing was as they seemed, He would wait and follow Akihana's intuition about this though, this seemed to be the best way for them to work best together
Fenn Listened to Aki talking to the milk man about his wife, and he waited for her to finish, and he asked the question about the place for a cat, and then Aki responded with the animal shelter. Fenn thought to himself, dummy , why did you not think of that? anyways as they changed directions, he heard Arata talk about all kinds of animals, and it seemed one was more dangerous than the last, this boy had a taste for danger, and Fenn guess it was his fathers doing more so then Aki's, when they arrived at the building, and Aki sent off the kid Arata to go find a cat for the training, he heard Aki's comment about Arata loving dangerous things, Fenn nodded and followed Arata inside, and then the boy bolted away from Fenn, and as Fenn was finding him, Arata was shouting for him and Aki to come over where he was, Fenn's eyes went big as Arata was pointing out a Tiger cub and he shook his head "Arata buddy, we have to find a kitten, small one buddy, this one is a bit big" and Fenn would quickly try to usher Arata back to his mom and away from the tiger, and then return to hunt for a House Cat
Fenn would hand Akihana the milk as to do her thing and he watched her do her magic, healing the poor tabby, he handed the second thing of milk to Arata, letting the boy have his own drink while they handled the Tabby, Fenn bent down next to Akihana, and began to speak in a soft tone to her, as not to startle the cat "Alright now when you touch the cat, imagine putting the slightest amount of chakra into it, and imagine the shape of the mark you wish to leave, it will disappear to the naked eye, but people who mastered Seal style jutsu's will be able to see it" Fenn was going to start walking Akihana down the path of summoning and Marking, as so she can either save someone, or pull someone into a trap, these two were quickly developing into a powerful team up, very soon, it would be scary to face down these two
Fenn watched her closely, as as he watched her mark form, it quickly faded away, he would then smile softly at her, and as she asked her question he would nod softly, and he would begin to head outside, he would wait for the Kunoichi to pay for the cat if she had to, and he found a nice spot that not many people seemed to travel, and he would sit and wait, the door of the shop in view, he waited for Akihana and Arata, next he was going to show her, how to summon the very critter she just marked, and then later he had a plan to ask of her, to see if she will agree
Fenn watched the two follow shortly after him, and as she asked the question he would nod as well as respond "Yes just let him go, and wait till he is about five meters away, then you make yourself bleed a little, slam your hands on the ground, and summon it back to you, as it is marked it will make it easier than most other things that you would have to focus on to summon" Fenn would pull out a kunai and began to spin it around on his finger as he waited for her to do her thing, if she needed it, he would offer her the kunai as he never left home without at least one of these on him
Fenn smiled softly at Akihana, and Arata, seeing as Akihana pulled it off, he nodded, never had doubt he did, he always knew she could pull it off, Fenn would attempt to quietly sneak away from them both, as they marveled over what Akihana just pulled off, He was starting to get so attached he needed to get stronger so that nothing will ever hurt either of them, Fenn would never be able to live with himself now that he had something and someone, two someone's to live for, let alone protect, it was time for a journey into the wild, to become what he needed to become to protect them both
As the Flashback faded from his view, The beast had taken form, having changed once more to Akihana. Was it His fault for Akihana becoming what she did. His self loathing had grown deeper just thinking about those very thoughts. He had made her transplant that Senju boy's kidney into his body. She was not for it, he lead her down a path that was dark indeed. Did he deliver her to Youka Tau in this way? The beast formed the shape of Arata. At the sight of the boy Fenn cried out in pain even more. He had lost the boy who was like a little brother to him . He failed him even worst than his mother, and was not able to protect him from anything that came their way. The world was Indeed cruel.
Fenn had been training the boy in the way of becoming a ninja just like he and Akihana were. Fenn was certain Yaju Hayate was teaching the boy several things himself. This made Fenn think about Yaju and the Beast changed once more. Yaju Hayate, the Kage that trusted Fenn to become one of his ANBU. Fenn was left behind by his Captain, Ganki. The image flashed to Ganki who just looked at Fenn and than Disappeared, and Fenn waited for the attack to happen from another direction, but it never happened. The man had left Fenn. Yaju never showed up to the fight.
Fenn had been abandoned by Psychosis, Yaju and Ganki. Yet it was Fenn who mourned for his failure to them, yet did they not fail him at the same time than? Fenn let his rage grow once more and Attacked the Beast. The Beast flipped images every so often, as Fenn was able to let go of his resentment to each of them as he got out his rage against them for leaving him to hold the front line by himself. Was it so wrong to think that the village failed him not that He had failed the village?
Fenn was doubled over in exhaustion , panting as the beast transformed back into this mirror form of Fenn. "Do you get it yet?" the beast asked as Fenn stood there. "This was not a fight against me, but a fight against yourself, a way to let you release all that had changed you against your will. This is the truth behind the waterfall. It makes you face your deepest feelings. Including the truth of situations where you try to drag the blame to yourself, yet it was quite different. Akihana did the surgery yes, but she chose to, she CHOSE to walk that path. She CHOSE to marry Youka Tau. Yaju CHOSE not to answer the call of duty to defend his village. Ganki CHOSE not to stay by your side. You are only human and can only be expected to do so much. Yet you pushed blame further, You CHOSE to live and fight another day, you CHOSE to leave and allow Youka Tau to destroy the Kumogakure you grew up in and learned to love. You CHOSE to blame your lack of strength on Navi for taking me away from you. This is the Path you walked due to your CHOICES."

Fenn listened to the demon as it spoke. It was never against Fenn, this entire time, his entire life, it was trying to help him. Yoko hit him with truth after truth. It was time to put the past behind him officially. Fenn would stand up and looked the demon in the face, the demon would not back down. The next action is what shocked the demon however. The demon was ready to throw down that when Fenn hugged the demon, he stopped in his tracks and just stood there. The demon transformed into Akihana, while Fenn may need the self love, the easiest form to accept it from was that of the motherly figure to which he had a weird thing for. The warm returning embrace allowed Fenn to break down fully. He had kept everything bottled away. thought if he had used the emotions he had felt to fuel his actions without having the feelings themselves. It was than that he realized that he was cheating himself out of the potential from those emotions.
Fenn cried once more into the shoulder of the old friend long gone. From the stress of releasing all that emotion at once, Fenn would pass out. The Demonic form of Akihana lowered them both to the ground and consoled Fenn. His head in the demon's lap, the shadow of Akihana that the demon was, had its hand running through Fenn's hair, like Akihana had done before. Showing nothing but a motherly like love to Fenn, something he had never had before. Fenn's mother had died in the child birth , Fenn's father died fighting the very beast that was sealed away in him until Navi ripped it away. This thing that was left within Fenn was the bit that was able to stick around.
It did not give him any benefits for the beast to be around still, but there it was never the less. Fenn would come to suddenly jumping up and looking at the beast which currently wore the skin of Akihana. Fenn stared confused at the beast for a moment. Shaking his head Fenn would close his eyes, and in that moment the beast shifted once again, Now it looked like Arata "Fenn-kun, Can we play , like we used to" The beast mimicked the voice of the boy .
Fenn stared at the beast with a new searing hatred "Is nothing off limits or sacred to you! You use these images to mess with me, you play and toy with me, you turn me into what you want, for what? so maybe I eventually cave and let you take over?! This game has gone on long enough, Turn back to your self, at least the one I am used to, Let us finish this once and for all, by the time I leave the waterfall, there will be a clear choice in who is the boss , and will get control with the other remaining silent and allow the other peace to do as they please with the body." As Fenn spoke his words the beast became the form of Fenn that he was most familiar with "Very well, if that is what you decide. But with this being your mindscape, the one you want to win, will do so" And once more the pair charged.
However due to Fenn's recent release of emotions and actually letting go of certain things, his movements changed and became more fluid, like back when Fenn practiced Jeet Kun Doe, the movements flowed from one to the next, the Beast had gotten used to the straight forward style of the gates fighting, that this caught him off guard, eventually missing a block and being sent flying through the air and landing on his back from one of Fenn's Hits.
The Strike was palpable , Fenn felt the sting of it across his arm, It had been too long since the last time that Fenn fought. He had became sensitive to strikes like that once more, He will make sure to train in the forest of kumo like long ago. The bark will toughen him up and make his skin as hard as it was, once more. The Beast came back to its feet. now more weary of Fenn , He had not seen that attack coming, and Fenn planned the strike several moves ahead, and made the needed attacks to push the Demon the direction he wanted it go for the strike to land. The beast was quickly adapting to Fenn once more. They would charge and clash once more. A Flurry of blows being traded back and forth, but each either just missed their mark or was blocked and countered against. This time the beast scored the hit when Fenn started to slow from Fatigue.
The beast than reminded Fenn "This is in your mind, why are you so fatigued?" It was taking Fenn a moment to realize the true grasp of those words, but he got the initial intent behind them, he suddenly was back to his speed he was at previously. and his stamina was back at full. Fenn felt like he could do this all day long suddenly, While the fight felt like and even seemed like by their surroundings, to go on for days. In the real world Fenn would have only been there for about an hour or so .
Fenn and the beast clashed time and time again, occasionally one than the other would get lucky against each other, scoring a hit once in a while, but each time they scored a hit it was harder to get another hit in. with this being a battle in Fenn's mind it would go on forever if Fenn would not figure out how he was supposed to defeat the beast within him.
