As the team would arrive at the next location, it became obvious why they needed help. Pieces of the building were falling apart, lumber was left scattered about in front of the building, and it looked as if another team had stopped partway through and left the job indefinitely. With a stretch, Dracoso would head in and meet with the owner of the store. He would be found scurrying around within the kitchen, deciding how the different cabinets and machinery would be placed. "You seem to have quite a task on your hands," Dracoso would comment, causing the man to jump and turn to face him. The man looked Dracoso over and slowly relaxed as he responded, "well yes. I take it you are here to help?" Dracoso would give him a nod and discuss how the man wanted each piece laid out for the building and the restaurant with Karma nearby taking part.
The man explained simply that he wanted the kitchen to have a quick-order style setup. This meant that the ingredients and prepared foods would be on the far wall from the serving window, the cooking stations would be in the middle, and a flat surface metal table would be placed under the window for both cooling and quick grabs to serve. They would need to set up points to hang both orders and cooking utensils while creating a flooring that would prevent slipping, too much foot traffic, and easy access to each station. Dracoso looked around the open room and sighed softly before looking back to the man and asking, "is there anything else you might need in here? We may run out of room before we even start."
The man would give a soft chuckle, then realize Dracoso was being serious. They would lay down some wax paper along the room and begin to draw up outlines for each station and area. The man quickly realized how unrealistic all of his requests would be, so they agreed to a single row of cooking stations, with a couple of spares in the corners. Once it was all laid out, the team would set to work summoning up clones to help with moving the materials. Dracoso would summon up a couple of his wolves to help carry and move around the lumber and machinery as they adjusted each piece. As the kitchen was coming together, the owner would signal Dracoso to follow him towards the back where the walk-in freezer seemed to be having some issues.
The freezer was making odd noises as the two stepped inside and the man showed that certain foods were thawing while the rest remained frozen. He gave Dracoso a tour to show where the meats and frozen goods would each go, only to see that certain stacks of meat had fallen over randomly. "Maybe there is a thief coming in and taking things when I am not looking?" The man suggested as he looked to Dracoso. Dracoso crouched next to a fallen stack of meat and asked, "is any of your stock missing?" The man was not sure but said that it did not seem that way. Dracoso would follow the noises and find that they seemed to come from multiple points along the walls within the freezer. After a good ten minutes of looking around, the owner was rubbing his arms for warmth and asked Dracoso if he wanted to step out. Dracoso tilted his head, a bit confused, then realized how comfortable he felt standing in the freezer. "Ah, no. I am fine. My Yuki blood pretty much means that cold areas like this are natural to me. Kind of like a snowman I guess?" The owner looked at him with concern for a moment before stepping outside.
A snowman? Jeez, I really need to work on better ways to explain that... Dracoso thought to himself. He took a breath and sent a wave of thought to Sutsui who rustled with irritation at him. She had been sleeping around his shoulders in the cool room when he had awoken her. He apologized and promised to get her a snack, to which she responded that she expected candy, if she would help scan the room. She reluctantly agreed and opened her mind's eye to sense through the walls and check along the structure for anything out of the ordinary. At that time, two of his wolves poked their noses into the freezer and checked in on what was going on. Dracoso would mention the issues with the freezer before one of the wolves would point a paw towards the far end, above where the stack of meat had fallen.
"There is some metal scraping together behind that wall that might be causing the issue?" The wolf suggested. Dracoso looked to the wall and back to the wolf before asking, "what do you mean? And how would you notice that?" The wolf mentioned that the smell of metal scraping on metal to have a very strong scent and that he could hear it through the wall. Pressing an ear to the wall on the specific spot, Dracoso could hear a slow grinding sound before a soft pop and suddenly, he felt himself pushed off the wall. It felt as if something had impacted the wall from the other side. He stood back up and found an entry hatch in the ceiling to which he would move along the top of the freezer. Looking down the side of the structure, he would see multiple pieces of machinery moving to handle the flow of cold air, the locking mechanisms, and the motion of the fans. One of the pieces seemed to have shifted downwards into the moving gears below it and the two were now slowly grinding on one another.
One piece would apply pressure to move the fans and get caught on the other piece which had fallen into its line of movement. This would hold the first piece in place, reducing the cold air getting into the freezer while also building up pressure. It seemed that after a long enough build up, it would force the second piece out of the way for a moment, whacking into the wall in the process, before getting caught again. With this in mind, Dracoso would wait for the next release of pressure and grab the second piece, moving it back up into place with a bit of struggle and then drop back into the freezer. He would close the entry hatch and then exit the freezer with the wolves in tow before informing the owner.
"A broken piece? It makes sense for why the meat was thawing. It seems strange that it was hitting the wall, but I guess that all adds up. I really thought we would have a thief hunt on our hands." The owner seemed a little saddened by that thought but gave a shrug and walked back with Dracoso to the team. Once together again, the owner would begin to describe the back of the shop and how they were looking to try a new concept, a ride-through ordering option. This would allow them to write an order, it would go into a tube that would drop it down to the chefs inside and be cooked up. The individual would then ride their horse, or wagon, or anything they were riding around the building to receive their food.
The blueprints were rather simple. A tube system had to be set up from the initial point of contact with a sign crafted to hold the list of foods they could order. From there, a short fence would need to be put in place to help guide animals around the building with a comfortable place to stop in case they needed to come inside for any reason. Finally, a reception window would need to branch off from the kitchen so that orders could be given and adjusted if any issues were to occur. Dracoso would simply nod and create a second pair of clones to begin shaping the work up.
The tube came first. Taking a rather thick bamboo pole from the backyard of the restaurant, Dracoso was able to hollow out the inside with his water blade and a touch of use from his cutlass. They then carefully cut out a hole in the side of the building and had it lean up with a cut at the end of the bamboo pipe parallel to the ground. This way, the hole would point directly upwards for customers to drop their orders into. It would then slide down and land on the long metal serving table for the chefs to handle. From there, the clones put together a sign and placed several pieces of waxed paper sheets over the large wooden square. From there, the owner could have the different names and costs of meals and foods added in.
The lumber out front was slowly cut down using a few borrowed power saws and a few handy jutsu into the shape of fence posts and boards. They were driven into the ground using a sledgehammer that was traditionally used to tenderize the tougher meats of bulls and oxen. As the fence formed around the building, Dracoso had his wolves carry over some of the remaining lumber to place at the points of a square where the customer should stop for the window. A power saw was used to open the side of the building before Dracoso tossed a tarp over the top of the four tall wooden posts. This would allow for comfortable gathering of food while also getting a reprieve from any rain that would fall.
As he finished, the owner patted Dracoso on the back and thanked him for his hard work. The two would chat for a minute abou what kind of meat is tenderized with a sledgehammer before the owner would mention, "well, it is the kind of meat that seriously stinks before you beat the heck out of it. Almost as bad as all that trash people are leaving outside of their homes!" Dracoso asked him what he meant as Shikami would arrive and fill him in on the details of how the entire village was engaging in dumping off their trash and how the streets, and landfill, were suffering due to it. Dracoso would let the owner know that he would be happy to return and try out his food on the next chance he would get.
Planning ahead, Dracoso tossed on his R&D armor and would make his way towards the landfill, deciding to tackle the larger issues. At the first smell of rot and decay, Dracoso flicked the switch in his hand and fresh air rushed into his helmet. He felt several waves from Sutsui of increasing irritation before he grabbed out a piece of candy for her and sent her a quick sensation with the image of a closed nose. Sutsui was confused for a moment until Dracoso sent a second image of a hand pressed softly over Sutsui's nose. She rustled softly and he could tell she calmed down after depriving herself of the sense of smell for this occasion.
The streets were rather littered today and filled to the brim with people's refuse as he made his way down to the dump. While most of that seemed to be reaching a ridiculous state, what he found at the dump would make him rethink what he saw as ridiculous. The trash was piled up almost as high as the four-story buildings in the financial district. Wherever he was not looking, it almost seemed as if the trash would shift and move on its own and slowly resettle into a more 'comfortable' position. Dracoso was a bit offput by just how much there was, but decided that the sooner he started, the sooner it would be over. He thought through his abilities and decided to form a few seals before holding his hand out, causing the majority of the trash and refuse to freeze over in front of him.
He then followed up but creating a water prison around large portions of the trash pile and slowly crushed the now fragile, frozen contents down into small orbs. He repeated this, slowly reducing the size of the overall pile until only stack of small thawing orbs remained in the corner. Dracoso was catching his breath as he could feel the strain of his work catching up to him and sat down to rest. A short time passed and Dracoso glanced over to see the orbs almost fully thawed. He figured the smell would return slowly as well, whether he could smell it at the moment or not. He threw up a few more seals and the ground around him would suddenly become a frozen sheet of ice which he would slide along and begin to roll the crushed orbs over to a dumpster nearby. Well, I did not exactly get rid of the trash, but I at least reduced the impact it would have. he thought to himself. He figured Karma and Shikami would handle the remainder of the trash along the streets as he headed off towards their next mission.
The team would reconvene again as an old woman in the upper floor of a nearby building would alert them to oncoming danger. Dracoso would find it odd that you would feel trouble in your bones, but that it was probably a soreness or anxiety from past points of fear which they had encountered. Shikami headed off to a nearby building and Dracoso turned to respond to the woman, just as a large explosion rocked the foundation of the building his team had been heading towards. Molten steel came raining down on the nearby buildings as they approached, showing just how true Shikami's words had been. It seemed like the entire building was starting to collapse with shards of metal and concrete showering the nearby area. "This will be a challenge" Dracoso said to himself as he cracked his knuckles and elbows before throwing out multiple seals.
A pair of shadow clones appeared and began forming seals of their own as the three stared firmly at the building. One clone began to spray a sticky starch liquid over the building, attempting to settle any falling fragments to the ground, forcing them together and letting the liquid absorb the heat. The second formed a water prison around a small piece of metal nearby and began to swing the prison, catching falling debris as it came down to reduce as much damage as possible. A layer of frost began to float around Dracoso and a wave of chakra energy erupted out from him as Sutsui completed her seals. She fed back to him a radar-like awareness of the movement of falling objects and projectiles being released from the building as he moved forward. With his seals finished, a large wolf made of water formed out of the water prison and began to spray large doses of water over the ground, insulating it from the heat of the metal. The four spread out, Dracoso forming his water sword while his clones alternated between sprays, prisons, water senbon, and using the hidden mist technique inside the building to try to negate the overall heat inside.
The mist evaporated rapidly but carried the majority of the heat with it into the sky and slowly cleared out above, leaving the building to cool. Dracoso know that the building needed to come down and he understood that an object that was rapidly heated and then cooled would be fragile. Dracoso dove into the base of the building and threw up the seals he needed as a layer of ice expanded out in all directions, coating the foundation of the building. He then took out his water sword and began to swing as his sealless chilled water senbon would repeatedly strike the base of each support beam. By the time he had left the building, it was already tumbling into itself and collapsing rapidly into the conflicting temperatures, cracking the materials as they met.
Dracoso would sigh a breath of relief, having enjoyed a bit of challenge and exercise. He opened his eyes to realize his ears were still ringing from all the explosions and destruction and he saw Shikami giving them directions. Dracoso could not hear him clearly and tried to figure out his intentions through reading his lips, but sadly could not make heads or tails of it. Shikami pointed at the building nearby which appeared to have taken several hits from fragments launched by the building they were taking down. Out of the fire, and into the flames it seems he thought to himself as he rubbed the back of his neck towards his ears. His hearing slowly returned as he approached the building. The fire was slowly spreading out from that specific apartment and would soon engulf the entire building if it was not put under control.
How to stop a fire. Take away what it can use for fuel? Cut off its Oxygen? he thought through this quickly and realized he may have a few tricks up his sleeve. He placed one foot on the side of the building and ran up the side as he clung to the surface. He drew out a pair of scrolls from his sealing wrist bands and activated one, making saltwater spray through a window over the flames and rapidly create a thick cloud of fog throughout the building, fighting back the smoke. Dracoso looked at the water as the last of it spilled out and, steeling his resolve, filled his mouth with the salt water, took a breath into his nose, causing it to mix with his throat, and then sprayed it out on the floor above. This caused what would normally be a poisonous mist to become a saltwater fog and would spread it throughout the floor of the building and slowly bend around to chase the fire.
As he finished the spray, Dracoso would fall to his knees, hacking heavily as the saltwater would have entered his lungs slightly and he would throw up a few handseals to then hack the saltwater back out as if it was a toxin. He breathed slowly and heavily out the window he had initially come through and would see the flames mostly receding into the building. Karma seemed to be responding well to the situation and handling herself as she responded to the flames. Shikami called up to Dracoso to handle the injured before handling his own tasks. Dracoso regained what strength he could and made his way down the building to find several individuals with burns, lacerations, and one covered in odd scratches.
Upon asking how she received them, the woman responded, "I was just caring for my neighbors' cats, all twelve of them, when this large shard of flaming metal came flying through the window. They immediately panicked and while I was trying to open the door, they all attacked me as if I was not opening it fast enough. I barely escaped with my life and all the cats are on the loose now!" Dracoso opened his mouth to respond, but all that came out was, "ah... yeah... I hope they are ok." She begged him to help retrieve them, but he gestured to the remaining wounded and told her that if they could, they would help to gather them another time. For now, they would be safer on the loose than anywhere near a fire.
Dracoso applied his healing hands to the several individuals, even using his mystical palm on some of the most severe cases. Many would recover fully with only a few now showing scars. He helped to restore a crushed eyeball back to its full form and the lung of another. The individual who recovered the lung was a bit upset as it did not fully restore it to the lung he was given from his wife who had passed on recently. Dracoso apologized and said that there was no way to keep the original organ as it requires the active cells from the person's body and that he would have died otherwise. The individual reluctantly accepted that it was already said and done and Dracoso headed back off to assist his team.
Something was off with Shikami as Dracoso approached. The weather was turning from bad to worse as it became to come down in sheets of rain and hale. Shikami told the two to handle taking individuals to the shelter while he would handle the last mission. Dracoso had a feeling that something was off, so he quickly formed up his seals and, with a nip to his thumb and a press to the ground, six wolves appeared before him. With another two shadow clones added to the roster, he set up three groups to explore the area and find any individuals who were caught out in the storm.
With two groups made up of a ninja clone and a pair of wolves and the final made of the elder wolf and a youngling who was good at sensory, they split up and began to gather who they could. Dracoso leaned back to Sutsui and sent a sensation to her with an image of the both of them fading into mist. Sutsui took this as her cue and quickly layered them both in chakra to cause them to disappear from sight. Dracoso silently tracked Shikami as he made his way to the bathhouse. With the weather and the intensity of the situation, it was rather easy to remain unheard and unseen as Shikami seemed to make his way silently in.
Dracoso would take his time, watching Shikami search for something along the building, almost as if he was touching each surface to find a kind of missing piece. After a half an hour, Shikami would leave empty-handed and seeming frustrated. Dracoso would glance back into the building just as a flash of memories would come to him.
One of the clones had moved with the wolves and helped to pull several people out of another building that had suffered shrapnel damage from the destruction earlier. Many were in good shape and the clone was able to heal those who needed it to return to the shelter.
They had found others who were pinned down by a tree which had been ripped from its roots by the storm. A quick water blade allowed them to move pieces of the tree out of the way and the wolves had assisted with digging out a tunnel from under the tree. The individuals were still in good shape with only a broken bone or two which were mended by the clone.
As the team had made its way to a nearby bridge, they found several more individuals stuck under the bridge to avoid the heavy weather. The clone had used the water wolf to create a shield against the storm and was just returning back to the shelter when an eruption had sounded nearby, and a pole came down directly at the clone before the memories stopped.
Slowly taking in the flashback, Dracoso breathed and looked back into the building. At least the wolves are still ok. The more people we save, the more will live on he thought to himself as he sent a sensation to Sutsui to scan the area. She would open her mind's eye and then detect for any elemental influences in the area before sending back a wave of confusion to Dracoso. He sent a wave back asking for clarification, but all he received was an image of an oddly blurred dark spot in the building. Dracoso worked with her to slowly pinpoint the exact spot in the back and slowly made his way in. He seemed that there was a specific tile that was sealed to the floor. A quick slash of his sharpened cutlass loosened the tile to be shifted aside. Underneath, Dracoso found a box which, with a quick peek, he saw was filled with papers bombs. The box seems to have been undisturbed in a long time and even had a layer of dust on it. It almost looked like someone had placed it here and left it for some future plan.
Dracoso quietly tampered with the underside of the tile, discretely working off some of the waterproofing from the tile and the lid. He then took out a water scroll and let it release half a gallon of water in before gently shaking out some of the excess water. With this, the paper bombs were ruined and most of the ink had run down the paper. With the scraped off waterproofing, even if someone came back to check on them it would appear as if the sealing had simply failed to protect them, and they were no longer usable. He would then close the box back up and return it to its little hiding hole before placing the tile back over it. Dracoso was still confused on why Sutsui had so much trouble identifying it and sent her a wave of curiosity. She would ruffle with irritation and sent him an image of what appeared to be some kind of trash-like paste.
Dracoso would lift the tile again and smell the sealing paste, only to find it had an odd dirt-like aroma. As he smelled it, his mind seemed to naturally try to focus elsewhere. He began to lower the tile and Sutsui sent a wave of calm mixed with frustration with an image of him smelling the tile. He would focus back and realized that the sealing had a chakra-infused paste which not only sealed out moisture but would also misdirection the senses to naturally avoid this tile. He shook his head, amazed at the creation and wondered if he could make something similar of his own in the future. Standing up, he would head back out of the building and aim to head back for the shelter.
He was making his way back just as memories of the other clone would flash through his mind. Several trapped under the rubble of a small building were brought back. Two sadly were lost in the collapse. Several animals were redirected towards the shelter after the wolves had determined whether they were feral or tame. Many birds had become trapped within large trees and the clone was able to bring them down and contain them within his large weapon pouch for shelter. He would bring them back to the emergency shelter and release them along with another group of individuals who had become lost on their way back from a trip to the beach.
His memories continued to play until the shadow clone had run his energy out and simply collapsed outside the shelter as his chakra dispersed. The last image showed the last pair of wolves returning with a few more genin who had gotten lost on their way back from the academy. Dracoso made his way to the shelter and found Karma and Shikami as the worst of the storm came forward. They both seemed the worse for wear and wondered why Dracoso was still in good shape. Dracoso shrugged and simply said, "I guess I got so used to the rain and sleet from the training my father took me on that this just feels familiar to me."
Dracoso would be resting and recovering what energy he could when the wolves would return as one group. They would be leading the majority of the kids and teachers from the nearby school into the shelter. The teachers had set up a temporary shelter in the academy itself, but the monsoon had increased its rage and broken through a few of their barriers. The wolves had been nearby when the sound of shattering glass had drawn them over. They had carefully shielded the people with their jutsu until they were able to safely arrive at the shelter. The wolves seemed beaten down by the weather and were panting heavily. Dracoso would walk over and give each a word of appreciation for their efforts and say that he was thankful for the bond they had made. The wolves would give tired smiles and disperse back to their world.
As the storm would eventually come to rest, Dracoso would nod off to sleep. It had been a very long day, but he felt that they had achieved far more than most ever would in a day or two of work. It was a more than he had wanted, but completing it still felt fulfilling to both his mind and his body. He just hoped he that would be able to continue helping others like this in the days to come and that he would have the strength to protect them
