Holy Helpers

- Spoiler:
The old wagon groaned in protest as it was pushed down the paved road. An assortment of crates containing food, clothing, and medicine were stored inside. It was a particularly tempestuous day, and Ryota donned an indigo blue anorak to protect himself from the elements. Although quite simple, the mission he had been assigned this time carried a unique challenge with it; a shipment of supplies was to be delivered to a local church, but he was forbidden from revealing his identity as a shinobi. The City Blessed by the Stars had a certain distaste for shinobi and people of their ilk. Ryota was still new to the city, thus unfamiliar with this religious group, and he was unsure of where this animosity stemmed from. Nevertheless, he would carry out his orders as they were given.
It was now midday, and the Hoshigakure City Square was bustling with activity. Ninja and civilians alike surged through the streets, whether on their way to work or simply window-shopping, and Ryota attempted to navigate the dilapidated wagon through the crowd without colliding with any one or thing. After a few close calls, Ryota was able to exit the busiest area and turn onto a side-street in the direction of the church. He stopped to take off his jacket, as he had started to work up a sweat. While putting away the anorak, Ryota pondered whether the religious group would try to figure out if he’s a shinobi or not, though he didn’t see how that would be possible. Shrugging this off, he continued slogging along with the wagon. His entire body had begun to ache a tinge; his shoulders, arms, legs, and back were all getting a workout from pushing this shipment of supplies, and it was especially strenuous considering Ryota’s weak disposition.
Although it was quite windy when he had begun his trek, the wind had since died down and heat had come to take its place. Ryota didn’t fare well in these conditions, and he was beginning to consider taking a break to get some respite from the sun. Luckily, as he reached the top of the hill he was climbing, he spotted the church just ahead and breathed a sigh of relief.
Drenched in sweat and exhausted, the young boy approached the front door. He joked to himself, “at least no one will mistake me for a shinobi, looking this pitiful.” Before he could even knock, a woman opened the door and beckoned him inside.
“Come in, come in,” she said, “you look like you’re burning up.” She was an older woman, probably in her 50s, and she exuded a kind, motherly feeling when she spoke. Ryota followed her inside the double doors, pushing his cart along with him. He gazed at the ornate decorations and architecture, as the woman led him into a storage room. Although the church was quite intriguing to him, he decided to save that interest for another day and focus on finishing this job and taking a shower. He swiftly unpacked the supplies, thanked the woman for her hospitality, and exited the building.
