Dead of Night (Solo)

Yamato could feel himself being pulled in different directions.
It was starting to get to him.

He wanted to dedicate his entire time awake to one thing,
but he wanted at least three different things to be that one thing.

Shinobi work.
His experiments.
Politics.

Power.
That’s what he wanted.

He was making the most of his time, he constantly had his shadow clones up, tripling his efficiency. He had reduced his dedicated sleep time to three hours a day. And on weekends, he wasn’t sleeping at all. He occasionally hired help. Local shinobi, carpenters, doctors, librarians, academics…

None of it was enough.
He opened his book of bad plans.
He knew what page he was looking for.
He found it.

He stood over the desk for a minute, reading what had been written. He knew these were his words but it was as if his mind was fighting against that knowledge. The words appeared strange. They were strange. Yamato tried his best to pretend these were writings he was seeing for the first time.

He closed the book.

He looked around in search of better thoughts. Finding nothing, his eyes landed on the book again. He looked away one last time, before he gave in. There were some specific lines he had taken huge issues with at a glance, and he couldn’t let it go. He scribbled a few things. Then he scribbled a bit more. Then he took some notes, and some more, and eventually, he was sitting by the book for hours, rethinking and recalculating every step of his plan.

A few days passed in a similar fashion.
Days turned into weeks.
Weeks turned into months.

He needed help. The plan could have worked. The math made sense. It was all in theory. He needed to practice. This was going to be harder to do than his previous experiments, even the curse mark procedure was easier to explain and get help for. For this project, he didn’t really know who to go to. Eventually, he had to choose. He talked to some people who talked to some people who talked to some people… And after a few more weeks, a place had been set up for Yamato for a reasonable price (and some owed favors).

He started experimenting…
Recalculating…

A few more weeks passed. Yamato read the entire history of the experiment. It was ready. It was going to work. He talked to his people again. Eventually he was set up, this time in his own house, to perform the procedure. It took the entire night.

It was a success.
