Task: An item of of great importance, a relic of your clan, gathers dust, rust, and mildew in the ruins of an ancient estate. Journey to the land of your forefathers and discover this ancestral home. Sift through the dirt and ruins of your lineage and claim your birthright.
It is a pleasant day in the capital of Island Country, the temperature lovely and the humidity tolerable. Occasional clouds dot the sky, and sunshowers had graced the city earlier in the day, leaving the fig trees lining the streets well-nourished. Gleaming skyscrapers rise above the peaceful streets.
The Konashi United Auction House sits nestled within the financial district of the city, an older building awash in color. Across the street, three shinobi sit at the window of their hotel room, watching people come and go. In one day's time, there is to be an auction of very great interest to Kirigakure. A collector with great interest in shinobi artifacts and curiosities has recently passed, with his heirs discovering an immense amount of debt and little use for what they saw as their older family member's interest in dangerous toys. So, it is all to be sold.
Kirigakure could simply buy out the auction, of course, but cursory intelligence has it that these objects are valued in strikingly inaccurate ways. Besides, the majority of it really does belong with Kirigakure anyways - there are objects of great interest to several of its clans there. As such, the team of three has been assigned to steal all of it. Quietly, and without causing any harm that can be pinned on the village. There is no need to cause any diplomatic fuss with their host nation.
Mino takes a drag of her cigarette, side-eyeing the wealthy and powerful filing into the building across the street. For the sake of discretion, the group's equipment has all been tucked away into a storage scroll, leaving them hopefully in inconspicuous clothing (if they did not pack appropriately, Mino would have quite emphatically insisted they grow a goddamn brain before their departure). A platter of take-out on Kirigakure's dime sits on the table between the three as they plan their heist.
"Rentei," Mino says, the middle-aged woman gazing at Travin with a judging intensity, "What Genjutsu do you have at your disposal?"

This was one of the rare missions that meant as much to the people on it as it did for the village. In that it was a recovery of ancient and powerful artifacts of the village’s many clans. Things that no one wanted to fall into the wrong hands, as it held information that was held secret even from the members of its own clan, or at least that was the reason that Travin had so eagerly wanted to join this mission. One of the things being auctioned was an ancient tome written and passed down through the ages within the Rentei clan till it was stolen by a member of the clan in a jealous rage because he was not allowed to look upon its contents. The clan had been hunting for the book ever since, and Travin wanted to know what kind of hidden jutsu was kept in the book as well.
He now sat across the street in the window of the hotel he shared with his two other roommates. Watching the building where the auction was going to take place. He was dressed in his normal outfit minus the chainmail armor he normally wore under it. Leaving him in an expensive black and gold Kimono and pants with closed toe shoes. When he lifted his hands the kimono would show off the tattoo’s he had gotten on his trip to get his snake contract, but to everyone that either didn’t know him or have the same snake contract they just looked like stylish tribal tattoos.
Render Travin’s massive 6 meter long python of a snake laid in on the bed looking out the window with the three of them. For obvious reasons he would be staying behind for this mission, and would act as a decoy if the situation called for it. However, if the plan went off without any problem it would not be needed, but Travin always liked having a back up plan. While he could normally trust the people from his village to have his back. People were willing to pay a lot of money for some of these items. Enough money to make some think of turning traitor, and while Travin had worked with Gonk on more than one occasion and truly trusted the man and his integrity. He had never had the chance to work with Mino, and therefore could not say where their loyalty layed.
It was at this point that Mino asked Travin what kind of genjutsu he had at his disposal. Travin making a quick mental note to think of the ones that could be useful in this situation made a quick list. “False Surrounding for confusion, phantom fog prison to debilitate through blindness and weakening, Ephemeral for all around usefulness, and genjutsu binding to quick knockouts” he listed with what he thought would be the best use for them. He had a few others as well but they would be of no use in this situation unless things got bloody, and that was not what they were there for. “What about you Mino, what you bringing to the table” Travin would return the question being polite as possible.

Gonk gazed out the hotel window, lost in thoughts as he gazed at the city. Two days earlier, he had heard about a mission that would be occurring that the Hohsigaki clan had stakes in. An old man who was an avid antique weapon collector had recently passed away, and his family decided to auction off his collection. Much of his collection was made up of items belonging to some of the clans of kirigakure. One of these items was rumored to be the sword Kiribachi, a blade that once belonged to the legendary pirate captain Arlong, who was said to be one of the first members of the Hoshigaki clan. After the blade was damaged in the battle that took Arlon’s life, it was recovered by a member of the Hoshigaki clan who repaired it and wielded it. He did such a good job repairing the sword that it was almost impossible to tell that the sword had once been broken. Like the previous owner of the blade, this blacksmith wielded Kiribachi until his death, but only this time, the sword wasn’t recovered by the Hoshigaki clan, and until that day, the clan had no idea where the blade was to be found. The plan wasn’t to buy the items, quite the opposite actually. Gonk was assigned to steal the sword and any other artifacts that belonged to Kirigakure.
“With Kiribachi I will be even more powerful,” Gonk thought as he looked at the building they were assigned to infiltrate. Gonk was wearing inconspicuous clothes and a regular black headband instead of his usual village one. He turned back to his two teammates as they started discussing their strengths. One of the two people he would be infiltrating the auction with was Travin, who he had been on a few missions with in the past. The second member of their team was named Mino. She appeared to be in her middle ages, which was older than most shinobi got, and seemed to have a bad habit of smoking. Gonk hadn’t met her before the mission, but she seemed to be fairly strict, but reliable. Momo had decided to come on the mission to, but quickly regretted that decision when he met Render. He seemed to be afraid that Render would eat him, and honestly, Gonk couldn’t blame him. After meeting him once, Gonk could guess that he was telepathically verbally abusing Momo at the moment, but what could Gonk do. Plus it would build character, which Momo sorely needed. Taking a bite of the takeout they had ordered, Gonk once again returned to the conversation at hand, interested about what skills Mino would bring to the table.

"Best suited for a minimal number of targets," she grunts, seeming unimpressed. "Watch my hands."
Mino blows another thick puff of smoke into the air, and then perches her cigarette in her lips while her hands flash through seven seals. Before Travin and Gonk's eyes, the smoke morphs into a simulacrum of Render in silver and grey, landing upon the table with a great crash - immediately smashing it (and either crushing all of their food and sending it scattering to the floor), the reptile rearing up with a glint of silver in its eyes. The smell of smoke has vanished from the air.
Then, as soon as it had begun, the genjutsu ends. The table and all of their food is back in place, and the smell of Mino's cigarette returns.
"Dog, bird, horse, boar, snake, ox, and rat. Practice it." It is clear that her expectation is that he master it by the end of the mission. "That is Steaming Multistoried Building. It uses smoke or mist as its medium and trigger. Keep your targets within the medium, and they will all experience the same illusion."
Mino snuffs her cigarette. "Otherwise? I am a medic-nin, so ideally my skills will not be necessary."
She already has an idea of how she would like to deal with this situation, hinted at in the technique she has decided to demonstrate, but she has told she should be more of a 'team player'. In addition to that... she's tired. It's been a long few months. The march of entropy has worn away at her controlling streak, and she has yet to fully recharge. Mino turns her eyes to the Hoshigaki. Gonk has been quite well-behaved, as has his monkey... though Mino cannot discount that the gigantic snake taking up the bed may be able to take more credit for the latter than Gonk can.
"This mission is of personal importance to both of you," she says, "So if you would like to discuss how you would like to handle it, now is the time."
By the next day, the plan is ready to put into action. People filter into the auction house, and each member of the team is in position, ready to strike as soon as the time comes. Kiribachi is mounted on the wall, various guests ooing and aahing over its distinct shape. Travin's prize, conversely, lays on a long table with a number of other assorted scrolls, books, or small tokens. Somehow, they are to clean this auction house clean of as much of it as possible.

“You know that when they leave I’m going to eat you right, it been a long time since I’ve tasted monkey. Travin keeps giving me pigs and things to eat all domesticated and no fight left in them” Render telepathically was telling Momo while the others were talking. Only taking a moment to watch an illusionary version of himself destroy the table, before going back and telling Momo just how good he was going to taste.
Travin unaware but suspecting something like it gave Render a look telling him to knock it off he was not going to get to eat the monkey. To which Render would finally stop till they all went to sleep anyway then he would stay up all night messing with Momo telepathically.
Travin would watch as Mino performed her jutsu. “Yes it is one that I have been wanting to learn, but put it on the back burner since I don’t have a reliable way to make a large amount of mist or smoke either one.” Travin would take a pause before continuing. “However, when you find your targets point them out to me and I will be able to create a duplicate as you take it with False surrounding jutsu. It will last long enough for us to get out of the building with the stuff we have been sent for. I am able to change half the objects in the room with the jutsu, but it all happens at one time so timing will need to be perfect or someone can notice.” Travin would tell the other two.
With the next day, their mission would start as people would start arriving at the event. “Leave the monkey alone” is all Travin would tell Render before walking out the room. With the other two to get into position.

Gonk watched as Mino performed her hand seals, and almost jumped in his chair when he saw some of her cigarette smoke turn into a copy of Render. Of course, Gonk’s reaction was nothing compared to Momo’s who tried to fling himself out the window. However, his suicide attempt was put to a stop by Gonk, who grabben his leg before he became a splatter on the sidewalk. Right as Gonk was about to yell at Momo for being an idiot the smoke dissipated, and the broken table returned to how it was before.
“Oh a genjutsu,” Gonk realized as Mino instructed Travin to learn it.
“You fucking dumbass,” Gonk whispered to Momo, thoroughly annoyed.
“Shut up, it’s not like you realized it was a genjutsu either,” Momo whispered back angrily.
“I’m not the one who tried to go skydiving without a parachute now am I?” Gonk replied, rolling his eyes. He then shifted his attention back to the group, doing so in time to catch that Mino was a medical ninja. As Gonk reached down for his food to take another bite, he felt Mino’s eyes fall upon him. Gonk looked up and met her gaze, trying to figure out what she was finding out about himself. However, Gonk quickly gave up on this task as the woman was an enigma. As Gonk continued eating his food, he listened to Mino ask them if they had any preferences about how they went about the mission.
Gonk shrugged, “I don’t really care, but just know that I’m a taijutsu and ninjutsu user, best suited to full out battles, though I do have the ability to move without making a sound. Also, I should probably use the transformation jutsu so I’m not recognized. The Hoshigaki clan are still well known for being part of the mist, so one showing up here would only bring suspicion. But other than that, I don’t really care how it’s done, as long as I end up with Kiribachi."
As he was leaving the hotel room the next day, he told Momo “show that snake who’s boss,” before leaving for the mission. Gonk hoped that when he returned to the hotel room he wouldn’t find a monkey sized lump in render. Gonk then walked out and went to get in position.

Mino steps up to the podium of the auction house, Transformation Technique placing her in the guise of a small, mild-looking man with tiny glasses. She adjusts her tie, clearing her throat, performatively shrinking under the judging glare of those present. Aren't auctioneers supposed to be more... charismatic? This one has yet to even open his mouth, and they can already tell he's a dud.
The charismatic and loud auctioneer is currently knocked out and in a dumpster out back, if Gonk has done his job properly. Mino clears her throat again, shuffling a number of papers, squinting out into the crowd.
"Ah, erm, good morning, good morning everybody," she says in the man's squeaky voice. "Everybody here? We're, ah, ready to start? There are drinks in the lobby, if, erm," she blinks at the even gaze of the crowd, who all are already holding their small fancy drinks. "Uhm, good, good."
She shuffles her papers again. Somebody coughs.
Beside her stands a quite curious object - one that is, in truth, simply a box that has had a hole cut out of it, within which a Shadow Clone of herself resides, second-hand cringing at her own performance. Travin had been instructed to cast the False Surroundings technique on this box while nobody had been looking, in order to have it resemble some manner of mysterious person-sized shinobi artifact. If he has succeeded, the crowd politely oohs and aahs while Mino gestures weakly towards it.
"For our first item today, ah, we have... ehm, this," she calls.
"...what is it?" a young woman calls, with a high, clear, and expectant voice, curling a jewel-encrusted hand against her cheek as an amused crawls over her face. "Sir, please elaborate."
"Well, uhm, you see, this," the auctioneer fumbles, blinking, before walking to the disguised box. Mino gives it an awkward tap - and then leans back, looking mildly startled as mist begins to spill from whatever esoteric device Travin has disguised her clone's hiding place as. "Ooh. Ah, it appears to be some manner of fog machine. For stealth, you know. Those ninja. So, erm, sneaky."
The crowd nods politely, a mild murmur passing over them as a few consider going home. The fog spreads through the room, not thin enough to hide much of anything or anyone.
However, the Hidden Mist technique Mino's clone has cast from inside the box is a perfectly suitable medium for Steaming Multistoried Building.
"Well, ah, you see... erm... yes, that is what it does. Do I have any bids on the fog machine? Ah, you, over there...?"
Everybody in the room, now under Mino's wide-range illusion, watches as this disaster of an auction continues. Mino, in the guise of the auctioneer, awkwardly scratches the back of her head - the pre-determined signal for Gonk and Travin, if they are in the room, to let them know that the genjutsu has been cast and they should release it.
Mino releases the Transformation once she is satisfied the entire room is caught within her trap, looking mildly distracted as she mentally maintains the auction the rest of the room is still participating in... and then goes to just grab armfuls of auction materials to haul out the back door.
"You two get this stuff out of here and get out ahead of me," Mino calls, the guests oblivious to the team cleaning house. "I'll keep the auction up while we get everything ready to get out of here."
If all goes to plan, they will be well on their way to Kirigakure within the hour, not leaving a single artifact behind.

Re: Going once, going twice... [Gonk, Travin]

Travin knew the plan and thought that it was pretty good if he did say so himself. With Mino pretending to be the auctioneer while Travin handed her the stuff that was disguised under his genjutsu, all the while Gonk would be taking out the real auctioneer. Their plan went down without a hitch and everyone was just thinking that Mino was a really bad auctioneer, and when the mist hit the room she had them all under her genjutsu, as Travin and Gonk both waited for the signal to start taking stuff. Once Travin saw Mino scratch her head he started to grab stuff and put it in the bags they had brought to carry everything. Once his bag was full Travin gave Mino a wave signaling that he had all he could carry and headed out the back door. The plan was for them to all take different directions out and meet back up in the room before heading out.
Travin didn’t run into any problems on his way back to the room and by the time that Gonk and Mino made it back he had already had a carriage waiting on them with a driver. When they approached Travin would speak “So you guys ready to go to the wedding” he would give them a wink where the driver couldn’t see. “Our old school friend Kita’s wedding is tomorrow and we should probably get going if we’re going to make it to Kiri in time” he would add. It was mostly for the other two to know the cover story for the driver, and to explain why they had so much stuff as well.
With that Travin would step up into the carriage having the windows drawn shut, and would reveal the hidden chamber in the floor of the carriage. Once they were moving Travin would speak once more “You can trust him he doesn’t know what we were doing but he works for my family and he won’t say anything even under pain of death. Otherwise, my family wouldn’t trust him, so feel free to discuss and look at what you got in safely once we get out of town.” Travin would tell the two before leaning back in his chair and waiting till they saw the gates out of the city.
Travin couldn’t wait to get to read through all the jutsu and different hidden types of weapons that were written in the book just under his feet. His grandfather had told him stories of some of the hidden jutsu and items of the clan. The moment that they were out of the city Travin opened the trapped door when the coast was clear and reached in for the book. He didn’t know if it was a coincidence or not but on the first page of the book. It detailed a sword that looked exactly like the one he had grabbed and was currently sitting in the bag. The Sword was made from what was called Shadowsteel. Created by the Rentei clan by infusing various poisons inside of the steel during the forging process. Travin then took the sword to return it back to his clan and attempt to figure out how the clan members of old had accomplished the task.

Travin didn’t run into any problems on his way back to the room and by the time that Gonk and Mino made it back he had already had a carriage waiting on them with a driver. Re: Going once, going twice... [Gonk, Travin]

Gonk hid transformed in an alley, waiting for the auctioneer to pass by on the way to the auction house. After several minutes of hiding, Gonk saw the man cross from the other side of the street, and start walking past the alley where Gonk waited.
“Excuse me sir,” Gonk called out as he walked up to the man. “Sorry to bother you but do you think that you allow one more item into your auction?”
“I’m sorry sir, but this isn’t an open auction, everything being sold is from one man’s collection.” The auctioneer said smiling apologetically.
“Damn I need him to come into the alley,” Gonk thought, his mind racing. “But this item is from his collection,” he said to the man. “We were good friends and he gifted it to me, though I didn’t share his passion and so the item was wasted on me. I decided that it would go to better use making money for his family, so I brought it here in hopes of giving it to them to sell, but I was turned away by some security guards. Please sir, I just want to help the family!”
The auctioneer seemed conflicted by this tragic story, and eventually gave in a little.
“Where is this item, may I see it?” He asked the disguised Gonk.
“Yes, come back here, I have it hidden behind some boxes. You see, it's very valuable, and I don’t want anybody to see it and take it." Intrigued, the man stepped into the alley and walked over to Gonk.
“Just behind these boxes,” Gonk told him as he stepped behind the high stack of boxes. The auctioneer looked around, then stepped behind them as well, to find Gonk’s fist coming down on his forehead.
“Perfect,” Gonk thought as he bound and gagged the unconscious man, “the boxes should have obstructed the view of everybody on the street, and he didn’t even make a sound going down.” Gonk then placed the body in a dumpster and shut the lid. Someone would probably find him eventually, most likely after the auction was over, but if he was never found it was no skin of Gonk’s back. He then transformed once again, taking the flawless appearance of a wealthy businessman. Gonk quickly walked out of the alley and merged with the many people walking down the street. Once he arrived at the auction house, he smiled at the security guards and walked in. As he passed through the lobby, he grabbed a fancy drink of some sort, then went to find a seat. Gonk watched as the disguised Mino walked up to the podium and started the auction. She did a good job being terrible, though Gonk couldn’t tell if it was on purpose or if she was just very bad at public speaking. Eventually a thick mist spread from an item Mino gestured to, though it wasn’t creating the smoke like Mino claimed, it was actually the hidden mist technique used by a shadow clone hidden inside. The auction continued for a minute before Gonk saw Mino scratch her head, signaling the genjutsu had been cast and it was time for them to get looting. Gonk quickly put his hands together and performed the genjutsu release, which brought him back to reality. He then pushed his way through the rows of people who thought they were still in an auction, and went straight to Kiribachi. Gonk pulled the giant sword off the wall and held it in his hands, admiring the craftsmanship. Realizing he wouldn’t be able to just smuggle the giant blade out, Gonk performed two hand seals, and the blade started disappearing into small purple particles. Once the sword had completely vanished, Gonk went to help Mino and Travin collect the other various objects. Once they had bagged everything, Gonk slipped out the back door, taking a longer and less direct route back to the house than Travin, so they weren’t seen together. When he arrived, he saw Travin waiting next to a carriage with all their stuff already brought down from their room. Gonk could see his backpack trembling and realized Momo had taken refuge from Render in there, though if Render was actually going to eat Momo, something like a backpack wouldn’t stop him.
Gonk smiled when he heard Travin’s cover story. “Who would have thought Kita could get married,” Gonk said in a joking tone. “Thanks for getting this ready for us.” Gonk then stepped into the carriage and put his bag down. Once Mino arrived the group got on their way, Gonk waiting in anticipation for them to arrive back in Kirigakure so he could take Kiribachi out of his storage displacement and try wielding the massive blade.
