The loner hits the books, then the bricks Empty The loner hits the books, then the bricks

Mission Details

Hamako woke up one morning, he woke up surprised, not because he had a bad dream, but at the fact that he had actually slept. His room was especially cold that morning, frost was creeping up from the bottom of the window on the north end of his bedroom. He pulled the covers closer to his face, as to battle the frigid cold with the heat radiating from his blanket. He knew that he had a job to do today, but he wasn't going to be in the right mindset if he didn't go to the waters and meditate first, and maybe get some training in.

He got a letter under his door the night before, which was commonplace for the loner, due to his lack of wanting to leave his home and mingle with the others within the village. He had met up with some higher ups in the village and asked if he they would instead of having him go to the mission boards and having to be around the people of the village, they would just give him a stack of mission summons either in his mail box or under his door. After a few months of doing his best to convince the higher ups to do this for him, they finally relented and agreed.

Some nights it would be a massive stack, ten to fifteen requests. Other days it would only be one or two. Last night was the latter. He was asked to arrive at the Kage's estate a little before noon to meet with some members of the treasury to speak about the collecting of taxes. The summons was a little over his head with the wording, he knew very little about taxes, so he was sure they weren't about to have him calculate anyone's taxes, so that really only left one option, he was going to be collecting them.

The loner swung his legs out from under his covers, the room had not gotten any warmer in the last two minutes, the bastard. His feet touched the cold floor, and a shiver went up his spine as he began standing up. He walked over to his bathroom and he turned the shower on. The water came out as cold as the rest of the room, and he was beginning to wish he had fire style techniques. The water finally began to heat up and steam was being produced as the hot water and the frigid room clashed together. He took a step into the shower, and a pain shot down his leg from the sudden shift from being freezing, to hot at the same time. His face being taken over with a wince, he powered through the pain in his leg and allowed his body to get used to the heat of the water, then he washed his body.

He finished the cleaning of his body, but he began to space out, staring at the tile wall that surrounded the shower stall he had in his bathroom. He was thinking about everything, but nothing at all at the same time. He shut the water off, and he opened the shower stall door, trying to keep it as closed as possible so the frigid air did not invade his shower stall, ruining his safe haven of warmth that the shower water had created for him. He reached as far as he could and finally he gripped onto the towel and he quickly retreated back into his fortress of warmth and quickly dried his body off.

When he finished drying himself off, he stepped out of the shower and he grabbed his clothes and threw them on. He checked his clothes in the mirror, ensuring that his clothes looked presentable. While he loathed and feared the idea of talking to people in the village, he still wanted to make sure that he looked presentable so he could represent the village properly.

He felt confident that his clothing looked good, so he left his bedroom and headed into his kitchen to make his breakfast before he left the house to begin his morning routine of meditation and training. He grabbed the eggs off of the counter, and grabbed a frying pan off of the pan rack that was hanging from the ceiling. The pans he used were copper plated, making them ideal for cooking eggs for they wouldn't stick. He placed the pan onto a medium heat, and he let the pan begin to heat up.

A small pour of oil would be spread on the pan, quickly followed by the eggs to be cracked directly onto the pan. The eggs would immediately begin to sizzle and set upon impacting the piping hot pan below. After a few minutes, Hamako grabbed the handle of the pan and he slid the eggs around for just a second to allow the pan to release the eggs so they could slide freely along the pan's surface. When the eggs were successfully released from the pan, he began to push the pan forward, then quickly tipping the pan back towards him, sending the eggs into the air, so he could gently catch the eggs with the hot pan so the other side of the eggs could cook.

When the whites were completely set and cooked through, but the yolk was still runny. He would sprinkle a pinch of salt and pepper onto the top, then he would slide the eggs off of the pan and place them onto a plate. He grabbed two chunks of bread from the bread box on the counter and took his breakfast to his dining room table. He quickly ate his eggs and bread because he was running out of time if he was going to get his meditation done for the morning. He was already sure he wasn't going to have the time to get a successful training session in before he was supposed to arrive at the Kage's estate to report for his mission.

He set the dirty dishes in the sink, making a mental note that he was going to need to clean the dishes when he got home that night. He grabbed his backpack and he headed out the front door of his home with his mission summons in hand. He slowly strolled through town, not truly in a rush to get there now that he already written off the possibility of training this morning, so he was no longer in a rush.

When he arrived into the training grounds, he saw the sun as it was just beginning to crest above the waters that surrounded Kirigakure. He often marveled at the sight and beauty that sunrises in Kiri would bring, it was a view that he could not seem to take for granted, for he was always stricken with this view and couldn't help but to be thankful for the view he would receive every single morning. He walked over to the shores that lined the outer edges of the training grounds, he knelt down to be just outside of the reaches of the water, and he closed his eyes, focusing on the waters before him.

Many thoughts rushed through his mind when he would reach this state. His fears, his memories, his sadness, his anger, and even his indifference. It would all come out in times like this, in the times that he was able to just focus inwards on himself. He would be able to see all of his discomforts, he would be able to focus on all of his short comings and all of the things that he was worried about. He would continue this meditation for hours at times, and today would be no different. He had many things to think about, ranging from the temperature of the air, to the death of his parents, and everything in between.

When he was finally done, he figured it would be alright for him to arrive at the Kage's estate a little early so he could report for his mission. He stood up and grabbed his backpack and headed out of the training grounds and into the greater part of the village. When he arrived in the Kage's estate, he was stopped by two higher ups in the village. Hamako didn't even bother speaking, he only handed them his summons, and he was told where he was needed to report. He nodded his head, acknowledging them and went along his way to his new destination.

He walked into a room on the estate and he saw rows and rows of file cabinets and other types of filing systems. But towards the back end of the room sat a desk with a woman sitting at it. She beckoned for Hamako to hurry back to her. He responded by walking slightly faster, but still keeping his hands in his pockets and his eyes pointed more toward the floor. The woman handed the loner a sheet of paper with addresses and amounts on the piece of paper. She explained to Hamako the situation.

Turns out there was people within the village that had been deciding to not pay their taxes due to the absence of the Kage. While Hamako would not have taken the chance to not pay taxes, some people thought it was a wise decision. The choice to have shinobe go out and door after door, demanding the money that they owe the village? It was a strange decision indeed, but Hamako was not in the place to be playing politics, he was just a loner with a mission summons, and that was all he was.

Hamako waited until the woman was done explaining the situation before nodding his head and began heading back to the exit door that he had come in through. He looked through the list of addresses and amounts, he quickly realized that he was going to need something to carry all of this money with him. But he would figure something out. He left the Kage's estate with the list in hand, and his head still hanging. He was not really excited to perform this task, but it was his duty so who was he to say no?

He reached the first house on the list. When he walked up to the door, it was opened immediately and followed by a rather large man with a blade in his hand. He was yelling and screaming about how he wasn't going to be paying any taxes, not for the "piece of shit Kage that couldn't be bothered to stay in his position!" The man's words were very loud and aggressive. He acted as though he was going to use that blade as a means of intimidation, but unfortunately for the man, Hamako did not intimidate easily. Being that he did not like talking to people in the first place, he especially didn't like to deal with conflict that wasn't required of him. This being known, he went about things a little differently with this individual. He said few words, he only had his hand stretched out.

"Pay your taxes. I would hate for this to get... gruesome." Hamako would emphasize the last word, looking into the eyes of the man with a half tiger seal formed. Completely bluffing the idea that he was going to use a jutsu to obliterate the man. The man snuffed and walked back inside, only to come back out quickly with the money that he owed the village and went back into his home, slamming the door as he walked in. Hamako let out a sigh, he was not looking forward to continuing this mission.

He would continue this strategy for every address that was listed on the piece of paper that he was given. Finally when he was done, he returned back to the Kage estate and he delivered all of the tax money that he had collected as a result of his going door to door. He was thanked and was given an envelope with his reward within. He nodded his head and walked back to the training grounds. He figured he had enough time to train his Earth release for a few hours.
