Home Sweet Home [Open, NK] Empty Home Sweet Home [Open, NK]

Well he finally made it back to Kumo. Now freshly promoted to Jounin at the age of 17, Reizo proudly walked through the village gates. Some of the patrol officers gave a passing glance, but upon seeing his flak vest they didn't question further. A few even recognized him from the dinner. Reizo chatted with a group of on-duty officers who were surprised to see the Jinchuriki just now returning from Hoshi. They asked what he had been up to, and Reizo filled them in on the details of his coma, red in the face with embarrassment. Not wanting to take up too much of their time, the Jounin left them to their military obligations.

With his Mind's Eye, Reizo could sense Komori and Saya were definitely in the village, and he could only assume that meant Komon, Senshi, Max, and the others were probably inside somewhere too if he got close enough to sense them. Setting down his stuff at a barstool of a food shack, Reizo ordered a pot of bbq meatballs and took a seat. He hadn't had a Kumo meal in almost a year! it was hard to believe it had been so long.

A soft purr echoed in the teen's mental chambers. Don't take this the wrong way, but I'm glad to see you up and running, Matatabi softly spoke. This kind of talk took Reizo aback- usually the cat was abrasive and sassy. Wow... I don't know what to say. Thanks for your concern, Cat, Reizo replied. The nekomata was a bit more stern in the delivery of its next lines, Yea, well, don't get used to it. I'm only happy because it got a little less lonely, but now I'm wishing I kept the silence. I guess the grass is always greener... Don't misunderstand me, I'm not happy for you, I'm happy for myself. When you're in a vegetative state that leaves me locked inside an empty prison. It's torture of the worst kind when there isn't any confirmation that anybody else is able to hear what I have to think.

The blonde pondered what the cat meant for a moment. It made sense. At least Reizo could be at peace with his thoughts while in a coma; Matatabi had nobody to rebound her own thoughts off of. The meatballs would arrive with Reizo saying a small prayer before splitting his chopsticks and beginning to eat.

The darkness was endless, almost suffocating for the young girl as she slept on through the night. It wasn’t a restful sleep. Saya kept turning and adjusting her position, half-annoyed in her semi-awake state. For a brief moment (in her perspective but was actually an entire two hours of unconsciousness) her breathing evened out and settled.

A jolt.

Zing!

Suddenly, there was a presence that pushed to the forefront of her mind, causing her amethyst-blue eyes to snap open. It was clear as day for her. Far, very far it was, but it was coming; she could tell. Saya closed her eyes once more and breathed in deeply, trying to measure the distance and calculate how long it would take from there to here.

Several thoughts came rushing to her. Why was he out of the country? Kumogakure wouldn’t easily let their assets roam around without an escort. It was confusing. And her - what should she do? They barely knew each other. Reizo’s absence and subsequent return shouldn’t bother her, or be any of her business. But before she knew it, the girl had thrown off her covers, hastily thrown on some shorts and a shirt and eased into her ninja sandals, and flew out her door. It slammed open, creaking at the hinges before falling back towards the edge of the wall.

Saya paced from one corner of the gates to the other. He wouldn’t be there for hours, but she kept at it. Many of the guards on duty merely questioned her with their curious looks, and to which she simply ignored. They weren’t of her concern. The only thing on her mind was the distance gap closing and the presence of Reizo going through the out rims of Kumogakure.

She pushed forward, following his chakra until he made to settle down at a food shack near the gates. Saya almost didn’t recognize him. He was still the same, of course, but he was taller and just… different. ”Reizo!” Came an uncharacteristic yell from the usually quiet girl. She ran up to his side before realizing that she had no idea what she wanted with him. Greet him? Scold him? They weren’t close, but he had given her valuable techniques and he had been gracious enough to invite her over to Hoshi as his personal +1.

”Where have you been?” Another yell, but softer yet demanding. A bit of a weird combination that she managed to pull off.

WELL LOOK WHO DECIDED TO SHOW UP!” Komori hollered at the boy he had not seen in quite some time. He plopped down next to him on a barstool, punching him in the arm. “It’s about time, man.” He was mostly joking, although there was a part of him that was relieved to see him up and moving again. The other part was regret that he had not sealed the tailed beast in himself, as the poor thing was stuck with that musclehead until the day he died. Komori looked towards the cook and asked for his usual.

Hiya, Saya,” was his nonchalant response that finally recognized the girl’s presence. He had not technically memorized her chakra signature yet. The Hozuki nudged Reizo again with his elbow, getting his attention. "You guys aren’t…" Komori arched an eyebrow at Reizo as he spoke to him through their shared telepathy seal, prodding him with his elbow in a very annoying manner. Before long, Komori’s steaming bowl of food would come by as he thanked the cook and began diving in himself, ignoring what would probably be Reizo protesting.

So,” Komori said, slurping a noodle before continuing, “What took you so long. Get distracted by all those charming members of Hoshigakure?” Komori elevated his voice, making it obvious he was only teasing. Mostly. Wink.

The blonde haired teen wouldn't so much as get to put the first meatball in his mouth as he was descended upon by familiar faces. First, Saya would appear on his right. It was only reasonable that she would be the first to sense his presence as he had taught her how to open the Mind's Eye. With that jutsu she likely felt his presence the instant he stepped foot into Lightning Country. Reizo smiled while looking down at his food and closed his eyes, taking a breath as he addressed his pupil, turning to face her. While he wasn't exactly her sensei, he certainly did teach her quite a few things, and they had experienced a lot on the trip to Hoshi. "Oh, what's up Saya? Yea it's been a while, I guess haha. I just got back in town from Hoshi, but I bet you already knew that, which is why you're here. Glad I haven't been forgotten," Reizo chuckled lightly. "Are you gonna sit down and order, something? I don't think this seat is taken," the Jounin said, referring to the seat to his immediate right, which was situated at the end of the row of stools.

Right then Reizo picked up the chakra signature of another friend and brother in arms approaching from behind (as he had been facing Saya). The boisterous banter of Komori was as distinct as it was welcome after being separated from the Hozuki for so long. Reizo shrugged his left shoulder as though to shrug off his friend's punch. It was just a playful gesture, no pain or anything of the sort. He turned back around to face his food, and then turned his head a little more to look at his friend. "Sup, Komori," Reizo would say. His facial expression would generate shock and the slightest hint of questioning when he received Komori's message. She's too young for you Komori, don't get any ideas, Reizo replied telepathically. The blonde thought Komori might've been asking to see if Saya were taken, and he wouldn't have put it past the Hozuki to try to make a move, even with the age gap. "Come to think of it, there was this one border patrol agent who stopped me on the way out. He seemed pretty chill. Kinda like if you and death had a child. It was odd how I got the same kind of vibe from him as I get from you, but yet you two really weren't all that alike in retrospect. The rest of the nameless Hoshians weren't very exciting, nor are they worth talking about," Reizo explained, of course referring to Damon, whose name Reizo didn't know.

"How have ya'll been holding up?" Reizo asked, taken aback at the Hoshian accent that he had picked up. Damn Hoshi rednecks.

Saya pursed her lips at his almost nonchalant greeting. There she was, standing with little sleep and all he could do was smile and chuckle. He could, at least, have had the decency to feel guilty for not alerting them of his absence. Then she shook her head, knowing that she had done the exact same thing. As such, the girl allowed herself to give him that bit of slack. She was just an ordinary genin though so her absence was probably hardly noted, but he was an asset to Kumogakure.

That didn’t matter now, however. Reizo was back and Saya was grateful for it. Despite their relatively small interactions (aside from his teachings and the injury he unintentionally gave her), she was half comfortable in his presence. At least, just as long as he didn’t turn into a green-eyed cat monster again. She shuddered at the memory before taking the offered seat.

”Hoshi? You’ve been in Hoshi this entire time?” She asked in disbelief. It was then that Komori, the winner of the Gladiator match, came by and immediately sat on Reizo’s other side. Saya had to admit that his combative prowess was spectacular and admirable, but the young genin had been rooting for Komon and she was quite salty about her prediction. ”Komori. Morning.”

Saya leaned forward a bit to see the Hozuki’s profile and nodded to him in greeting before switching back to grilling Reizo about his mysterious absence. ”Kumo allowed you to stay there? Why didn’t you come home after the celebration?” Her questions simply came out like a rushing waterfall.

The kunoichi didn’t bother to answer Reizo’s question on her well-being. He could probably tell by how crumpled her state of dress was. A slightly oversized shirt over knee-length spandex shorts, and her usual ponytail was haphazardly drawn up into a messy bun that was on the verge of breaking down and spilling her long tresses over her back.

Fight me, was the only reply Komori gave to Reizo. He and Saya had already become acquainted and he had already addressed the age gap. However, what Reizo said next in regards to the Hoshi gate guard piqued the jounin’s attention, “He seemed pretty chill. Kinda like if you and death had a child. It was odd how I got the same kind of vibe from him as I get from you, but yet you two really weren't all that alike in retrospect.” Huh. Cool. Although he didn’t get the death analogy. “That guy sounds cool. I’d love to meet him one day.” That would be the day, two egotists coming face to face, both full of themselves for different reasons. Komori could taste the subtle venom in Saya’s words. According to his timeline, this was shortly after his night in the woods with Saya as well as the gladiator match against Komon, and before the meeting at Max’s house. When she leaned forward to see his profile, she would also see his spectacular jawline. While Saya looked like a slob, Komori was looking fresh, his messy yet stylish hair, his jounin jacket over a nice black shirt with the sleeves rolled up, brandishing the storm tattoo sleeve on his left arm. He used his chopsticks to pick up pieces of meat in his meal, in addition to noodles which tasted great in tandem. For now, he was more focused on his food and was content to listen to the other two talk. Almost like he had not eaten all day and needed to go grab a snack.

"Yea, Hoshi," Reizo said between mouthfuls of food. He was mainly focused on his meal, but respected his friends enough to answer their questions. "The village had no say in the issue. It's not like either village wanted me there, but they had to let me stay because I couldn't move. I was in a deep sleep for the last few months since the celebration. Probably suffered brain and liver damage from whatever I drank or ate, but nothing compared to what my lifetime of boxing has probably done. I'm just assuming that's the case, however. I didn't need to heal anything, I just kinda woke up when I felt ready. Wasn't a big deal. Hoshi didn't even know I was still there," Reizo explained, finishing his food.

"Oh yea, Komori, I wanted to ask you something. Do you think you could teach me ninjutsu some time? Obviously I know the basics, but what I really want to know about are the kinds of jutsu you can do, like all of the lightning and water jutsu I've seen you perform. I wanna be able to do that. Would you be willing to sit down with me some day soon and teach me?" the blonde would question, only turning to face the charming twin after he had finished asking. Then he noticed something he hadn't before; it was a tattoo. "What's that? It doesn't look like one of Senshi's works, can I see it?" Reizo innocently asked, pointing to Komori's left arm tattoo.

In the moment between asking her questions and Reizo replying to her, Saya had managed to order a small plate of tamagoyaki and a relatively new dish she was obsessing about, pulled noodles with beef. After putting in her order and turning back to Reizo, Saya couldn’t help but frown at his previous predicament. Did he just claim being in a coma without explicitly saying so? Something about eating or drinking something during the celebration?

Saya frowned at that and immediately activated her Mind’s Eye and mystical palm, and hovering it over his head and then over his upper body. It didn’t matter to her if he thought he didn’t need any medical attention. Self-diagnosis was always a problem for medical shinobi and personnels. ”And Kumogakure just left you there? No one even came to check up on you?” Saya hissed, narrowing her eyes as they roamed over his figure. No, she wasn’t checking him out in any particular way (if it ever came out that way). She was merely analyzing his chakra system, seeing if there were any irregularities that would do bodily harm.

Though her inquiries were prompting if Reizo didn’t feel comfortable in replying, he needn’t to. Saya was simply voicing out her indignation and anger on his behalf. Still, her frown deepened when she found nothing wrong with him. That is, except for the boiling hot mass of foreign chakra twisting in his belly. It seemed to hiss at her, almost as if it was alive in some way and that prompted her to pull away and cease her impromptu examination of Reizo.

Then magic words were spoken. Reizo had asked Komori to teach him about ninjutsu and some techniques. Saya found herself leaning forward a bit to see the Hozuki’s response. Her eyes darted between them, almost certain that neither would pass up on training. She, obviously, wanted to join but it was not her place to push herself into something that was between the two jounin. Instead, Saya tuned in her attention at the tattoo that Reizo pointed out.

”Tattoos? I didn’t know you had any, Komori.” She commented before resting her head against her palm and her elbow on the counter. ”And Senshi was a tattoo artist too? I didn’t know that.” The mention of her sensei both brightened and saddened the girl. Saya had not seen or heard of him since the night of celebration. Not even when she had entered the village. To be honest, the young kunoichi had sort of been looking forward to being scolded by the bearded man.

Still, it was hard not to take note of the smile that was on display nor the extra energy in her words at the mention of Senshi.

I’m sure you can’t even feel the brain damage,” Komori said under his breath, in between bites of his own food. The more handsome jounin did not think Saya was checking Reizo out, simply because the Hozuki was there and would have been better to look at, so she must not have been looking him over. Komori was just chilling when Reizo asked him if he wanted to teach him ninjutsu, while Saya found herself leaning forward a bit to see the Hozuki’s response, which Komori decided to provide a professional and sophisticated response: “Sure.” He then took another bite of food.

“Oh, this?” Komori lifted up his left arm and he looked at it fondly. “It actually is Senshi’s work. It was supposed to help boost my chakra.” he said with a laugh. “But her tattoos always had that risk of failure, like with what happened to Komon. It doesn’t help me out as much, but I’ll be damned if it doesn’t look cool.” He then turned his attention towards Saya. “I’ve got another tattoo if you’re interested in seeing it.” He’d wait for her response, which regardless of what it was, would cause him to pause from eating and remove his jacket and pull off his shirt, revealing his super toned body. He would then turn around and point to his muscular back. There, the two would see that his fit back was covered in a massive tattoo bearing resemblance to The Great Wave Off Kanagawa. He would await for their oohs and ahhs before adding, “And it gets cooler, too.” With that, he would activate the tattoo’s ability, causing it to glow with the color of his chakra. He would then place his top on the barstool next to him and continue eating, now shirtless. Saya basically asked for this.

Reizo leaned back on his stool and spun around to face Komori. "You're definitely right about that one, ahaha," he'd giggle in response to his brain damage remark. Reizo could of course hear him with his finely honed senses, whether Saya could was another story. "And no, nobody came by as far as I know, but I was asleep so I wouldn't be the best person to ask."

With no chakra routed through the tattoo, it was no surprise that Reizo couldn't pick it out as one of Senshi's designs. The twins must have some awful genetics to BOTH be unsuccessful in receiving the seals along with the tattoos, Reizo thought to himself. He considered saying it telepathically, but he didn't want to be too confrontational; it was meant to be a happy reunion. The Hozuki then proceeded to remove his top to reveal more of Senshi's work: a simple wave tattoo that took up most of his back. It was a simple design, something Senshi certainly would not have struggled with penning. Reizo was more studious of Komori's physique however. He was quite critical of how and where men worked their muscles, and he was always judging how he felt they could improve. "I can tell you've put in a lot more time to your physical well-being, that's good. You could definitely benefit from a more well-balanced routine though. While your upper back and shoulders are in good condition, you might wanna try some deadlifts and not skipping leg day as much. I understand you only care about a e s t h e t i c s and not practicality, so maybe you don't care for my critique," Reizo said, intentionally trying to jab at Komori's pride.

Reizo would then remove his own jacket and long-sleeved shirt to show off his own tattoos from Senshi. On predominantly his upper back were a pair of intimidating Fu Dogs facing one another with the character of his family name centered between them. On his left arm was the face of a ferocious and mighty tiger. Of course on his right shoulder was the Iron Seal that Komori himself had placed to contain the demon cat.

Reizo's own musculature was far more matured and developed than Komori's, having been involved in physical sports, fights, and training all his life. He had far larger muscles, better tone, and even lower body fat than his contemporary. It was like comparing Zac Efron from High School Musical to Zac Efron in B-rated movies. The 7 extra years of effort and direct targeting of particular muscles in his training really paid off in terms of mass and tone for Reizo, even if he potentially stunted his height in the process. He didn't even need to flex to make it clear that statements were being made- Komori should not ever be challenging him to a modelling contest.
