The Spark of Madness Empty The Spark of Madness

Fri Feb 24, 2017 8:38 pm
Niran awoke in the early morning, the sun just cresting over the horizon, painting the sky in series of pinks, purples, and leaving the cold of night behind. The temperature was cold as is expected in the mountainous region their village was located and not many who weren’t shinobi would actually be awake. He sat up in his bed and gave himself a moment to stretch before standing and moving toward the nearby restroom. The stark appearance of his homes decor would give one the feeling of a lack of commitment to live there but in reality he simply didn’t see the point in frivolous things. All that mattered was his strength after all, in which he was woefully lacking. That of course was the plan today. He would travel out from the village, into the cave systems in the mountains that not many people dared explored due to the winding pathways that would quickly get people lost and cause them to become easy prey for slavers and raiders that knew the caves much better. On the way he would train in a technique or two that would allow him to handle and opposition and allow him to increase his power in great stride. These thoughts were what went through his mind as he washed and dressed himself for the day, donning his normal leather and fur coated jacket to keep warm with a little of thickness for protection. He glanced at himself in the mirror and nodded. He would then travel down stairs and prepare a quick breakfast before eating it quickly, yet in a well mannered, way. It didn’t matter how he ate at this moment after all, as no one could see him in his own home.

After breakfast he would move toward the door, obtaining a couple of weapons pouches on the way that would possess a couple of scrolls that he required. One would detail the Great Fireball Jutsu, that he definitely intended to learn. The other would possess the Phoenix Flower, which he might learn if he still had time or felt as if he needed to have another attack to rely on for simple slavers. The second pouch had kunai, shuriken, ninja wire, smoke bombs, and a box of simple, white chalk. Which he intended to use to mark his path through the caves so that he could find his way out if needed. He nodded his head in satisfaction for before opening the door and stepping outside, locking and pulling it closed behind him. The sun had risen quite a bit more into the sky since he had awoken. Now the multicoloured pallet that had earlier decorated the morning sky had long since faded and only the bright light of the sun shone through. It was still fairly early, only being about eight and he decided that he might just have time to learn both techniques after all if he could find a decent place to learn them before hitting the caves. He moved through the village, heading the towards the gates and most civilians moved to let him pass. He walked with an air of superiority, with an almost regal stride that exuded confidence with each step. This, combined with his already imposing figure made most people desire to move out of the way immediately to let him through, obviously his business had to be more important after all, and since they didn’t know him well since he kept to himself extremely well they didn’t know who he actually was. He could be someone that could or would kill them in a heartbeat. Or like them, and a serious lack of personality.

He reached the gates in short order and was waved through after explaining that he was going out to train and should be back by the gates closing, or at the latest in the morning. The guard quickly signed off on it and Niran proceeded to make his way away from the village, toward the mountains. He would run toward them for a while, a good hour at least. This would put him another hour out from where the caves he intended to clear out would be. He would need to stop and train his techniques first. Before he could do that however he would turn and move off the intended path. Everyone knew there were slavers and raiders in those caves. But weren’t really willing to try and go clear them. But since they would be well established he could easily run into patrols if he accidentally tried to train too close. So he moved off the path now and traveled with the mountain about an hour to his west, searching for a suitable training ground. After about thirty minutes of running he discovered a good location. Obviously a bit too far from the village, but it had a small brooke that ran through it from the mountains, teeming with fish and good, clean, crisp water. The area was rocky but mostly flat throughout, providing the perfect place to train in his fire techniques. He nodded his head and took out the scroll and opened it up to the first technique. The Great Fireball technique was considered on the starting fire techniques, often proving as the basis for learning others as it was relatively simple to learn, and gave you the basic chakra control aspects of fire chakra. How to mold it in your chest and how to breathe and control the fire without burning yourself around the mouth and causing damage. It was a staple in every fire users repertoire and he would now be adding it to his. He studies the scroll for a few moments, memorizing the two needed hand signs of Horse and Tiger, before noting that he could use it as a steady stream, or as a straight up destructive orb of fiery wrath. He would then put the scroll back into the pouch and take in a deep breath to steady his breathing and ready himself. He would then move his hands in two quick and practiced movements, horse and tiger, the last one being the one commonly used for fire style ninjutsu. As he formed the seals he would gather his chakra, feeling the life force come to bear as he formed it into fire chakra. The natural feel of the chakra giving a sense of power as he let the euphoria of commanding one of the great elements overtake him as he gathered the fire chakra into his lungs and took in a deep breath, allowing cool, fresh oxygen to mix with the volatile fire chakra he had formed. He wasn’t aiming for anything in particular, simply trying to perform the fireball technique in its more common form. As a giant fireball being thrown out of one’s mouth like a destructive firebug. He allowed the mixture of fire chakra and oxygen to coalesce a bit more before breathing out the chakra in single controlled burst. The Fireball he intended to make exploded outward from his mouth, surprising him greatly as the two meter large fireball shot down the range about twenty meters away, tearing up stones and dead trees in it’s incredibly destructive journey before ending in an explosion that left a fairly respectable crater.

Niran was now fairly confused, he hadn’t expected to get the technique down so quickly, he knew he already had some practice with how to form the chakra and bring it into his lungs with the fire stream technique, but never in his dreams did he ever expect to get the big brother of the two techniques down so quickly. He couldn’t explain how natural it all felt to him. It was like he was born to use fire techniques. He shrugged at the thought and decided to try out the alternate, stream like version next. After all he needed to be able to do both before he decided the technique was properly learned. He closed his eyes and controlled his breathing and heartrate from the surprise. Trying to learn a new technique without absolute focus could easily come back to bite someone in the ass and he refused to make such a rookie mistake when he expected so much better of himself. After calming himself down he began to gather the chakra again, the volatile, destructive nature feeling completely natural to him, as if he was born to bear it’s destructive might against those that were beneath him. He swirled the chakra in his chest, letting the feel of it’s might and comfort of it’s nurturing warmth overtake him before bringing in a deep breath, once again allowing the two forces of nature, air and fire combine within his lungs to create the fire technique he’d be using. He allowed the two to mix and meld together into a great chunk of destructive chakra, begging for release. He focused on a point ahead of him, once again not on any particular target, simply on a focus point in the air, before releasing the contents of his lungs in a fast, yet steady stream of fire. As if he were gently coaxing it out of him to quickly eliminate his enemies in a fiery wrath. The stream of fire shot forward, turning more dead trees and rocks to slag as the oppressive heat of the fire assaulted them. Just as quickly as the technique began, it ended again and he observed the damage. He had clearly created a stream of fire, but he wasn’t comfortable with how quickly he had forced it out. He felt he may have released the breath a little too quickly. Which he felt was an easy mistake to make. After all with the other version of the technique you simply had to release the fireball from your lungs in one shot, a single breath. With the one you had to maintain it, control it, and release as a pace that would allow maximum damage. Both physically and psychologically, the longer one felt as if they were on fire, then the more damage the psyche became, if they even survived the technique. He resolved himself to trying the technique once more so that he could make sure he had it down to a comfortable degree.

He brought his hands up again for the third time that morning and quickly moved through the hand seals again. They had long since felt natural to him as he had spent hours practicing them until he could perform long strings of the hand seals within seconds. He couldn’t be impaired by such a glaring weakness in a life or death situation after all. He brought the now addictive feeling chakra to bear as he fused it with the oxygen he gathered and breathed out at a slower pace than before. The stream of fire that came out was no less impressive, but lasted a bit longer since he controlled his breathing as he fired out the technique. The damage it caused was again impressive and after he finished it he smirked at being able to add a powerful, although basic fire technique to his arsenal. After he finally let his momentary elation at finishing the next technique pass over he would take in a deep breath and move over toward the small brook with his water canteen so that he could drink his fill and have a small break. He would sit down near the small stream and down his canteen before refilling it so that he would have some fresh water later if he needed it. He looked up into the sky, particularly at the sun to note that a couple of hours had now gone by since he had left the gates, making it about ten in the morning. He still had plenty of time to learn his second technique and then go spelunking for slavers. He nodded his head at the goal and proceeded to open the scroll with the information for the Phoenix Fire Jutsu. The technique would allow him to fire a barrage of smaller fire balls, peppering an area with up to six fireballs. The hand seals for the technique in order were Rat, Tiger, Dog, Ox, Rabbit, and finally Tiger. They would condition the chakra to form the technique which, combined with proper breath management would allow him to perform the technique.

He stood back up and turned inward toward the other end of the clearing, giving him ample space to practice the technique. He didn’t think it would take him that long at all to learn this particular technique, after all he already had the practice with forming the chakra in his lungs now. He began to gather said chakra as he had that particular thought and morphed it into his fire chakra. He could feel the raw, heated fury of his chakra pound throughout his lungs, begging to be released on a target and he grinned in excitement as he kneaded the chakra into the proper amount before taking in a deep breath. He felt his lungs fill up to capacity before nodding and fusing the air and chakra in his chest and firing it out, he used smaller, quick bursts of released air to fire the foot wide fireballs. He easily launched the six great balls of fire into a small area, keeping the aim controlled with precision as he quickly got used to how firing the smaller, yet no less dangerous fiery orbs felt. After he performed the technique he stepped over to the target area and observed the damage he had inflicted upon the poor, innocent ground. The damage was sufficiently controlled and the power behind each fireball was considerable. He nodded his head in satisfaction of the attack and turned to move toward the stream once more. He needed to be in top condition just in case of any potential surprises that could surprise him. He would expect the unexpected, and not allow himself to become shocked into freezing or making a mistake. Those kind of reactions to anything would be the death of someone, and has been the death of many shinobi before him.

After he had sufficiently freshened up at the brook he stood and dusted himself off. It was time to move toward the mountain system and handle any slavers or raiders he might encounter. He moved at a fast pace, yet kept himself quiet, and his senses sharp for any patrols he might come by. Honestly, he’d be surprised if he ran into a patrol though. The cave systems in the mountains were so large and labyrinthine that most people tended to guard off one section with an exit easily accessible. He’d have to try to enter in through an exit that wasn’t nearby, or at least far enough that wouldn’t use it. Then proceed to move his way through the mountain until he found their camp. Then he could eliminate the pests and if possible, save a few people. The monstrous people that would take people and sell them into hard labor for profit didn’t deserve to take those people’s lives away from them. So Niran would kill them all and free the slaves so that they could live their lives again. As these thoughts ran through his mind he came across a cave entrance. He didn’t see any guards at it, so he decided it was probably safe to enter from here. He moved into the cave at a guarded pace and kept his senses razor sharp for any sudden attacks. Orange eyes danced across the darkness beyond the fading light of the outside world as he moved deeper into the cave. He reached back into his pack and pulled out a stick of white chalk. It would stick out in the cave, especially once his eyes finished adjusting to the darkness. He made a single mark at the turn in case he got disorientated so he would know for sure he was coming the right way later and moved on, continuing his trek into the winding abyss like cave system in the mountain.

What seemed like hours passed and he still hadn’t found anyone or anything to speak of or that would even suggest the presence of slavers. He had passed by countless forks on his way there and he would be hopelessly lost on his out without the chalk. He was about to give it up and head back, content with having learned two decently powerful techniques in one day, when he heard a distant voice. He knew the caves would echo something fierce and so he was probably still pretty far off. But it confirmed the presence of people. He moved quickly, yet silently down the cave toward the sounds and after a while they started getting louder and louder. He began to take greater care in his stealth, making sure he wouldn’t be found randomly by some fool and give himself away. The corridor eventually opened up to a large cavern, with a great many tents filling it. Small campfires dotted the room and countless men moved about their business with weapons sheathed. To Niran they all looked like low life scum. Dirty, Haggard, and rough. He heard screams coming from one end of the camp and moved around to get a look and saw something that made his blood boil. The men were slavers alright, and a few of them were currently ‘having their way’ with some of the better looking female slaves. These men had no right to do such a thing, to take from those that need more than they do. To take their safety and security from them, make them feel used and tossed aside into slave labor for what could be the rest of their lives.

He would simply have to fix that wouldn’t he?

He brought himself up to his full height and brought his hands together in the same sequence he learned before for the Phoenix Fire Jutsu. He would end it on the Tiger seal and breathe out six fireballs that would instantly kill the ones taking advantage of the girls as well as the slavers around them. He would then step into the light, orange eyes glaring dangerously as he took in a deep breath and went through two hand hand seals. The slavers would instantly note that something was amiss when their comrades cries of agony and death came out and they would run through the camp to his location. As they did one of the women who were let out to be used would pick up the keys from the slavers bodies and begin letting the rest out. They would hide behind Niran until this was over. “Kill them! Kill them all!” The insane, murderous personality would scream inside his head with glee as he formed the chakra for the first technique he learned today. The slavers would run into an area just before the slave pens and when the first few came up he would release the powerful stream of chakra in his lungs and a maintain the breath for a full minute, listening to the piercing screams of agony as the scum in the caverns rounded the corner to try and stop him. He’d run out of breath, but quickly take in another breathe as he’d begin to slowly walk forward at a measured pace. He’d reach into one of his weapons pouches and bring out a couple of kunai and throw them at the nearest two targets as they tried to get to him. The knives would pierce into their skulls, piercing the brain cavity as the razor sharp blade separated skin and bone. Their bodies would fall to the ground long after he had finished his next string of seals.

More concentrated fireballs came forth from the depths of his lungs. He purposefully delayed the firing of them all though, using pinpoint accuracy to hit six different targets rather than peppering an area. At this point the rest of the slavers had caught on that they were under attack. The problem is that they were all running toward him, from one side of the camp to the other. The flames that killed so many of their comrades danced across his eyes as a grin appeared on his face as he performed his next two seals and launched a large stream of fire down the way. The screams as the rest of the slavers burned to death echoed through the caverns and soon all was quiet except for the cracking of the flames. He would then turn and walk back toward the slaves that had by then all been freed. For what it was worth..almost all of them had been injured or deprived for so long they’d never make the journey back to the nearest village, Kumo. Even then there was no guarantee they’d be let in and taken care of. He looked at the thankful, hopeful faces of all of the people he had saved from the clutched of these horrible men, trying to figure out a solution to the situation before him. “You know..They won’t make it back..Better to let them die now then to give them false hope of survival.” A slightly manic voice would whisper in his mind.

A dark gleam would appear in his eyes as he faced the crowd of thirty of so slaves who were looking at him with such hope, such gratefulness. He brought his hands up to began a few hand seals without uttering a word. Every one of them thought he was performing a jutsu to help them. After all the fighting was over right? There was no need for more offensive jutsu. That simply wouldn’t make any sense. He would hold the tiger seal for a moment, and take a second to bring in a large breath through his nose. As if he was taking a deep breath a few of the more keen slaves realized what was happening as a look of pure horror adorned their faces. He would breath out his last stream of fire for that day. To the sound of the screams of thirty tortured and betrayed souls. People who had had everything taken from them, and had nothing left to live for. He would dash what little hope they had to paint himself as the bad guy in their final, horrendously pain filled moments. In his mind it was better to put them out of their misery now, then to have what little hope they had build up with each step toward civilization, only to realize it wouldn’t be possible. Niran stepped out of the cavern with a manic gleam. The light of the moon reflecting off his piercing orange eyes as he moved slowly back toward Kumo, whistling a tune as he did.
