A Rude Awakening

It was daybreak in the Village Hidden in the Clouds. Birds were chirping as they traveled from perch to perch. One such bird landed on the roof of a house that belonged to the twin brothers Komori Hozuki and Komon Hyuga. Komori was never particularly a morning person, as he was consistently used to oversleeping, often at the expense of ruining his own self imposed schedule. He preferred to be like running water and flow freely down his path instead of meticulously planning out his day.

However, today Komori had a plan. He had woken up exceptionally early, and whether this was due to a faulty sleep schedule or his own devious idea seemed to be rather unimportant as he quietly creeped down the hallway to his still sleeping brother’s room on the very tips of his toes. He reached for the doorknob before deciding to not chance making a sound. Instead, he used the hydrification technique that he had inherited from his father and the clan which was famous for their ability to liquefy their own bodies at will.

Komori now lied at the entrance to the room, and as a puddle, slowly slid through the crack at the base of the door that separated it from the floor. He saw Komon’s still sleeping body face down on his bed and slowly reformed his body, careful to not allow his watery self to make any sloshing noises that could disturb his sleeping target. He slowly crept up to his brother and held his hands together. Komori extended his index and middle fingers in the form of the Tiger Seal. He silently said to himself, “A thousand years of death” before inserting his fingers into Komon’s bottom.

Komori was left disappointed as his brother’s unconscious self showed no reaction. He headed towards the door and opened it as he left the room before closing it behind him. I’m going to catch him off guard sometime today, he thought to himself as he headed towards the kitchen. After he had fixed breakfast, Komon walked out from the hallway, as the smell had probably woken him up.

Komori gave him a grin that masked his true intentions as his brother took a seat across the counter that already featured a plate with various breakfast items that were still steaming. Komon picked up his utensils to begin eating and reached for his food. Komori grabbed the plate from right under Komon’s unsuspecting nose and began eating the meal in front of him instead. As Komon had just woken up, and since he was not a particularly patient morning person, stood up from his stool  and immediately reached across the table, grabbing the strings of Komori’s hoodie. “What the hell, man?!” he yelled into his brother’s face. Komori simply gave a mischievous smirk. Komon lifted his free hand up which began tingling with electricity, a sign of the cramp jutsu Komon loved using on his brother. Komori simply said, “Got ya.”

“SUBSTITUTION JUTSU” Komori shouted as he disappeared in a cloud of smoke. Komon looked at where his brother had just been, and instead found himself holding the very stool he had been sitting on. Before he was able to react, Komori had formed the Tiger seal from a crouched position behind his brother’s back, as he had switched places with the stool. “A THOUSAND YEARS OF DEATH!” was the last thing Komon heard before he the jutsu made contact. This technique caused Komon to launch five meters across the counter and onto the other side, where he crashed into the sturdy cabinets and slumped to the floor, still conscious but in pain. Komori could not contain his laughter as he triumphantly grabbed his breakfast and continued to eat.
